Hundreds of trucks, RVs and cars descended on Washington DC Sunday, with the goal of shutting down traffic around the capital in protest of COVID-19 mandates. The “People’s Convoy,” inspired by the Canadian “Freedom Convoy” that brought Ottawa to a standstill last month, finally reached DC after departing from California last week, growing in size as others joined on the way. The stunt on Sunday failed to bring traffic to a complete standstill, but did slow it down at certain points. Convoy leaders said they plan to again drive slowly around Beltway – a 64-mile highway that encircles the city — on Monday.

At least a million refugees have fled Ukraine over the past week, seeking safety in neighboring European countries from Russia’s advancing military forces. Amid the chaos and deadly attacks on major cities that the U.N. estimates have so far killed approximately 3,300 civilians, some African students have reported encountering instances of racism from some civilians and members of the Ukrainian military as they try to escape the country according to most of the mainstream media reporters on the field.
Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) called for a ban on United States investments in strategic Chinese industries on Monday evening during a speech at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.
Cotton delivered his speech as part of the Reagan Foundation’s Time for Choosing Speaker Series, where Republican politicians address fundamental questions about the Republican Party. Cotton touched on the threat the Chinese Communist Party poses to the United States, President Joe Biden’s failed foreign policy, the crisis at our southern border, and education during his speech.
Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna – who was speaking to BBC TV’s Sunday Morning programme – accused Russia of “military tactics right in the cities of Ukraine”, adding they were carrying out a “terroristic plan”, with attacks coming from the air and also by land.
“Shelled hospitals, the shelled houses for kindergartens and schools, and the ordinary households,” she said. “This is how the reality looks.”
She said Ukraine was seeing “another wave of implementation of this terroristic plan of [the] Russian Federation”.
Ms Stefanishyna claimed Russia was suffering “enormous losses” of soldiers and equipment, but this “does not deter Russia”.

Russian-state-owned media Sputnik quoted Russian State Duma speaker Vyacheslav Volodin as saying that Verkhovna Rada (Ukraine Parliament) could not get him to Lviv.
“Zelensky left Ukraine. Deputies of the Verkhovna Rada said that they could not get to him in Lviv. He is now in Poland,” Volodin wrote on his Telegram channel, reported Sputnik.
Constitutional carry legislation passed the Ohio House on Tuesday, had an amendment approved by the state Senate on Wednesday, and is now headed to Gov. Mike DeWine’s (R) desk.

On Sunday’s broadcast of NBC’s “Meet the Press,” former National Security Council Senior Director Fiona Hill insisted former President Donald Trump, despite being out of office for more than a year, played a role in Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine.
Hill argued that Trump’s request for a “personal favor” set the wheels in motion for the invasion.
“[I] think there’s just the one point that sums everything up that you yourself touched on is that President Trump at a pretty critical period, withheld military assistance to Ukraine that was desperate for it at that particular junction, basically to get Volodymyr Zelensky to do him a personal favor,” Hill said.
On Monday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “All In,” Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR) argued that in order to undermine Russia’s power, we have to “end our dependence on oil and have the world transition to renewable energy.” Because Russia will be able to sell oil as long as there’s demand for oil, and called for a “climate emergency.”
