In an 8-1 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron (R) can defend the commonwealth’s law banning live-dismemberment abortion, despite Gov. Andrew Beshear’s (D) refusal. The decision authored by Associate Justice Samuel A. Alito overturned a ruling from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit that barred Cameron’s office from intervening in the case. Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayor was the sole dissenter.

Comments:

Thank God for the people willing to defend the most innocent, the most helpless, and the most precious of all humans! Abortion scars the soul.

I’m surprised that Kagan didn’t vote against it as well. It has always baffled me why the most hardcore abortion supporting women seem to be lesbians who will never, ever need that procedure.

Sad that this had to come to a vote at all, but I have to wonder if the vote would have been any different if taken two days after the next presidential election.

Alito kept his pimp hand strong on this one. Just flat out said the other courts screwed up their interpretation of the constitution. And let other courts know that political decisions to protect abortion will not. E rubber stamped anymore.

Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna – who was speaking to BBC TV’s Sunday Morning programme – accused Russia of “military tactics right in the cities of Ukraine”, adding they were carrying out a “terroristic plan”, with attacks coming from the air and also by land. “Shelled hospitals, the shelled houses for kindergartens and schools, and the ordinary households,” she said. “This is how the reality looks.” She said Ukraine was seeing “another wave of implementation of this terroristic plan of [the] Russian Federation”. Ms Stefanishyna claimed Russia was suffering “enormous losses” of soldiers and equipment, but this “does not deter Russia”.

Hundreds of trucks, RVs and cars descended on Washington DC Sunday, with the goal of shutting down traffic around the capital in protest of COVID-19 mandates. The “People’s Convoy,” inspired by the Canadian “Freedom Convoy” that brought Ottawa to a standstill last month, finally reached DC after departing from California last week, growing in size as others joined on the way. The stunt on Sunday failed to bring traffic to a complete standstill, but did slow it down at certain points. Convoy leaders said they plan to again drive slowly around Beltway – a 64-mile highway that encircles the city — on Monday.

The White House on Sunday rejected the argument that increasing domestic oil production would help lower gas prices, as the cost of oil moves toward record highs. Crude oil prices rose as high as $130.50 a barrel on Sunday evening. White House press secretary Jen Psaki released a set of talking points on social media, arguing against a focus on boosting oil production in the United States. “It’s a reminder that real energy security comes from reducing our dependence on fossil fuels,” Psaki wrote, noting that Russia’s continued invasion of Ukraine was causing a spike in oil prices. Psaki pushed back against Republicans calling for more domestic oil production.
