NBC’s Chief White House correspondent Peter Alexander repeated White House talking points to his Republican guest during a MSNBC interview on Thursday. Alexander denied that the Keystone XL Pipeline would’ve had any impact on the United States’ dependence on foreign oil.
Alexander was speaking with former chief of staff for former Vice President Mike Pence, Marc Short, when he started arguing with him over solutions to the U.S.' dependence on foreign energy, amid the Ukraine-Russia war.

I'm so old I can remember when reporters said the same thing about drilling in ANWAR. It would not affect our energy independence because it would take ten years to develop it. Eerily familiar argument.

IMO the main problem with the country, reflected in the media, is a lack of critical thinking.People react to perception and therefore so do the markets. If the future appears grim people will not invest in it. If there is no confidence in the future people will hoard. Supply and demand economics is not that difficult to comprehend. And, despite what the dims and their media say, trickle down is manifest - if there aren't any wealthy and they aren't spending nobody works.

To a certain extent, the reporter was correct. The Keystone pipeline wasn't finished so no oil was being pumped through the pipeline when it was canceled. However, that doesn't mean it would never contribute to oil independence. The pipeline just had to be finished. The reporter could also have said the same thing about the Russian pipeline that Biteme gave the go ahead to finish. It wasn't providing any oil either.

The pipeline wasn't completed. OK I get that. But we would have been a year closer to completion had this administration not been so ignorant and shortsighted.

While I will concur that the pipeline was not producing anything, it was not because people weren't trying to build it, and send oil to be refined in the Louisiana area.
It was democrats who essentially blocked it, simply to deny Canada the ability to send their oil to market.
When you take something out of the equation, there is less potential of it.
When you add something to the equation, there is more potential for it.
The United States has the cleanest air and cleanest water. Highest environmental standards.
Yet, democrats want to buy oil from the Middle East, Russia, Iran, Venezuela, etc...
Instead of the United States, which creates very good high-paying jobs, buys U.S. Steel, uses U.S. transportation services, builds refineries.

Now that it's been shown that Canada has a petty, fascist little dictator wanna-be, should we be trying to buy Canadian oil?

Government refusal of drilling permits and leasing applications are the most immediate cause of the decline in U.S. production. As a result, U.S. oil companies have reduced their personnel by 15%, and stopped capital investment in the U.S. and abroad. It would take 12-24 months to ramp up production, even if approved. Oil is not produced by government abacadabra, but by capital investment, legal documents drawn by not very fast lawyers, and personnel that have to be recruited and trained.

Only to the point that it was not yet finished and operational. Keystone, combined with the shutdown of drilling and leases everywhere, effectively caused our current dependence and huge price increases. Don't forget that the Keystone shutdown also put 10,000 workers on unemployment. There will, however, always be employment for stupid, lying reporters because that's all the MSM uses.

I suspect intentional lying, but you have to be so stupid and so uninformed to be a leftist, perhaps this Alexander fool might actually not know that he is spouting lies. But I suspect that he does know the truth.
