Bob Beckel, the longtime Democratic operative whose appearances on Fox News Channel included a stint as host of “The Five,” has died. He was 73 years old. FNC star Sean Hannity announced Beckel’s death during his nightly primetime show on Monday. “We miss him already,” Hannity said of his former FNC colleague, whom he called a “dear friend.” Beckel was campaign manager during Democratic Party nominee Walter Mondale’s ill-fated run for the presidency in 1984. He also served in the State Department during the Carter administration.

Very sad news. Condolences to his family and friends.

I don't wish will ill on the departed and hope his family will find peace. When he was on The Five I never liked him for a couple of reasons. He seemed to blow off the handle often (Geraldo???) with a lot of bluster and no facts---and---I always thought he showed up to the show unprepared and always leaned on his long-past bona fides as something that meant anything in the current moment. But that's just me.

The one thing Beckel was consistently right about was that China was our biggest threat. He nailed that one!

When I started watching The Five, he was a regular and I always thought he was either high or drunk. When they replaced him with moron Williams, the only good thing about that is that moron was sober. Now they have Geraldo as one of the liberals. The only liberal they have that seems half-way intelligent is Harold Ford Jr.. The producers would be better off leaving the 'liberal' chair empty.

He was your typical Democrat liberal- he could be counted on to excuse every stupid move made by Carter, Clinton and Obama. Always read off the Democrat playbook and bad mouthed every Republican. In the end his party left him behind. Still he was more interesting than that has been Geraldo Rivera who has made the Five unwatchable.

I saw him a few times on The Five and he didn't strike me as a nice person. I disagree with Juan Williams a lot, politically, but I think he's a nice man, other than being (or at least playing) a leftist nut. Beckel didn't come across that way to me. Seemed like he'd be a bully in person. I didn't know him, didn't and don't hate him, but I disagreed with his politics very much, and would have turned down an invitation to have a meal with him, too. Not that that was ever going to happen.

Remember seeing Beckel on The Five. More than once I had the impression he was not in good health. There were times he was nice, and other times he was nasty. It was an unusual mixture of both because at times you did not know what you were going to get.

From his Wiki page: Beckel was a recovering alcoholic.[3][32] He spoke openly about his past addictions to drugs and alcohol, admitting in July 2011 on The Five: "I'm a recovering addict and cocaine was my drug of choice."

Beckel was an old time righteous liberal, sort of in the mold of Harry Truman. But when Beckel was sober, he could be a man of ideas.

I never cared for Beckel much until I saw him once as a guest on Crossfire. His opponent was a conservative woman (I don”t remember who) but she wasn’t very swift and came unprepared which made her easy prey. He and host Bill Press bore down on her at first and it verged on becoming a gang-up by two bullies. Press continued to go in for the kill but Beckel visibly registered the position his opponent was in, quieted down and backed off like a gentleman, He then tried to cushion Press’s aggression with some humor. I never forgot that. By the time he got to The Five his health was obviously failing and it was clear that his heart wasn’t in the debate anymore.

An effective and more affordable treatment for lung cancer may not gain approval after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) complained about the lack of black people in its clinical trial, with a top FDA cancer official repeatedly noting in a meeting that it is Black History Month. Eli Lilly and a Chinese partner called Innovent believe the drug, known as Tyvyt or sintilimab, could extend the lives of those suffering with late-stage non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and be more affordable than other treatments. The clinical trial patients were Asian because the trial was conducted in China.

A Manhattan judge on Monday said he will toss out Sarah Palin’s libel lawsuit against the New York Times over an editorial that falsely linked her to a mass shooting — but he didn’t exactly side with the Gray Lady. The former Alaska governor sued The Times – and the newspaper’s former editorial page editor, James Bennet – in 2017 after the paper published an editorial under the headline “America’s Lethal Politics.” But Manhattan federal court Judge Jed Rakoff said Monday he would dismiss the complaint when the jury returns a verdict because Palin had not met the high standard of “actual malice” in the complaint.

The Trafalgar Group is very accurate in its polling. It found 55.7% of voters prefer a Republican candidate in the upcoming congressional races. 42.2% prefer a Democrat. Let me put that in perspective. Remember the 2010 congressional races when the Tea Party flipped 63 seats for Republicans, which gave them their largest majority in decades? Republicans received 51.7% of the votes overall. Democrats got 44.9%. That was a 6.8-point gap. This is a 13.5-point gap.

Minnesota has removed race as a preferential factor for determining which COVID-19 patients should receive scarce monoclonal antibodies, which are outpatient infusions that reduce the risk of severe illness and hospitalization. Updated rationing guidance on Wednesday prioritizes infusions when they are in short supply for people who are immunocompromised or pregnant. It also gives preference to people who are older or have underlying conditions that increase their risk for severe COVID-19, but it switched to a scoring system that no longer considers race.

Republican Glenn Youngkin has moved ahead of Democrat Terry McAuliffe in the Virginia governor’s race, less than a week before the election. McAuliffe receives 45 percent to Youngkin’s 53 percent in a new Fox News survey of Virginia likely voters. Youngkin’s eight-point advantage is outside the poll’s margin of sampling error. That’s a big shift from two weeks ago, when McAuliffe was ahead by five, 51-46 percent. Among the larger pool of registered voters, it’s a one-point race: McAuliffe 47 percent vs. Youngkin 48 percent. Two weeks ago, McAuliffe led among registered voters by 11 points, 52-41 percent.
