Virginia traffic jam provides reminder
of limitations of electric cars

Original Article

Scott has already mentioned the 48-mile traffic backup that occurred in Northern Virginia yesterday. Reportedly, cars were stopped on I-95 for more than 24 hours in freezing temperatures. It must have been awful, but it could have been worse. And, as Charles Lane explains, it would have been much worse if there had been many more electric vehicles (EVs) in the traffic jam. Lane writes: Sometime after 3 a.m. Tuesday. . .a long-haul trucker from Canada heard a knock at the door of his cab. It was one of the hundreds of other motorists stuck in subfreezing temperatures with no food or water. The supplicant was “driving a Tesla,”

The people who want coal powered cars do not care about your facts. They would rather die than admit there is a fatal flaw in their asinine scheme. They really would. The last 2 years of Covid insanity should have proven that to any one with eyes.

Don't they have off ramps? I read reports that in some spots traffic was at a crawl. Sooner or later there's got to be an off ramp. Surface streets would at least get you moving and out of the jam, and perhaps to a motel if you're far from home. Why are people so myopic they believe the laws of nature do not apply to them? Why do their "plans" become the most important thing in their life, even at the expense of putting that life in danger?

This type of example is an extreme example, and because it's extremely rare that something like this is going to happen, I wouldn't make a decision about getting an electric car based on this story. If you live in a city, and you never drive anywhere except in and around that city, I guess an electric car is feasible. But I live in Austin, TX, and travel a lot. Several times a month, we drive to San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, Corpus Christi, Beaumont, San Angelo, or even El Paso -- not to mention other states. Until they come up with a way to fully charge an electric car in 10 minutes or less, they are totally and completely useless to me. Seriously, it is over 575 miles to drive to El Paso. I can easily drive there in one day in my nice gas powered crossover. But if I tried to do that in the current models of electric cars, I would go halfway, find someplace to charge it, wait 8 hours or so until it is charged, and then continue on my trip and hope I don't run out of power before I get there. Not going to happen!!! This summer, we plan to drive to Washington state for a wedding. There isn't a bat's chance in Hades we could do that with the current electric cars that are available. I have waited my whole life to travel and see this great country. Covid isn't going to stop me. And having some useless electric car isn't going to stop me either!!!

the snarled traffic pictures on the front pages of the media are merely 'symbolic reminders' of the big and dangerous crush set up last year by the j6 scamsters-- [see the whole scheme set forth in revolver news]. iirc, revolver tracked down various characters through photos and videos -some known and some still not id'd, to date. these were deployed to pre-position themselves --apparently to receive the busloads of pre-paid rioters, and to set up a sting for peaceful trump supporters--who resisted pre-paid incitement on j6. the apparent plot was to catch vast amounts of trump supporters in a pre-planned fake news illegal trespass situation-- to justify false charges of trespass, leading to inhumane , unconstitutional, and illegal imprisonment .....plus, torture, starvation, and maiming and death by beatings, toxic ''food' etc . before during and after 'arrest' and 'imprisonment' in aid of this scheme, laws/rules reportedly were changed beforehand. then ....physical changes were made to the capitol bldg area--to confound visitors on the day of j6. -signs were removed, or new ones , or wrong ones, were installed-- in some sort of misdirection play. -all the many possible paths to access the capitol bldg. were shut down and diverted to just one path --the one path for which the rules and the signs were changed--to funnel the unsuspecting onwards into the trap ahead. there, photos and videos show : young males in hoodies had also installed or removed signs; cops , and herders with bull horns were pre-positioned to force the visitors [a tiny percentage of all those who showed up] into a so-called ' no trespassing area'. it looks like visitors were helplessly piled up into a lengthy stretch--- rather like the traffic jams in the storm, languishing w/o resources or info. until driven forward to enter the bldg. but the j6 victims were to be infiltrated by more herders and controllers all round, then showered with flash bang grenades as tv cameras rolled. incitement attempts failed, [see the mr epps reporting for more on that]. footage shows the gangbangers were outside; so-called jadenx and female crony were within, crowing on tape about their role. the window smashers in familiar black rioting gear got revved up. so did the officially- sanctioned clubbers and shooters. [see several ongoing reports by revolver et al for that]. you all know who was murdered, maimed, beaten and tossed in solitary--and who was not. you've witnessed the roll out of the false narratives, obstruction, legal corruption, and blame- gaming juggernauts. .....complete with familiar fingerprints, and whinging by the usual clown world buffoons.

I've been stuck in one snowstorm on an Interstate in my life and was prepared with food, water and clothing but it was still a government-caused nightmare, I-80 across Indiana had not been touched by a plow after a Thanksgiving holiday and they would not close the toll booths, which multiplied the backup by tenfold. I'll be polite and call the Washington backup "bad judgement" especially if you were in an EV. #3, I-95 in that section has express lanes with no exits inside the "local" lanes. Once you get in there you don't get out for a while. I took a motorcycle trip a few summers ago and was sailing along in one set of lanes while traffic was backed up for ten miles due to an accident just across the divider. Very poor design but then that's the norm around Washington that once had 2 lanes on each side of the 495 Beltway.

We live in Erie, Pennsylvania, and have developed a special protocol before we go out during the wintertime. We check the weather and driving conditions first. Erie usually leads all American cities in annual snowfall. So if we can figure out how to handle it, certainly the Virginia pansies can, as well.

Re #3. This is pretty much a rural part of Virginia in the southern part, less so as you get closer to DC. In the northern, more densely populated parts, US Rt. 1 pretty much parallels the interstate a few miles east, and each exit will get you there. Lots of traffic lights, and travel on US 1 when the interstate is a parking lot is often barely better. BUT, if you are off the interstate, you can find a store or restaurant or something to get warm in, or maybe even a motel. On the northern part, where US 1 is, there are many businesses and such along US 1. That would be a very viable exit strategy. In the southern areas....not so much. US 1 crosses over to the western side of the interstate, but far less in the way of businesses there. Maybe stuck on a different road, with at least some choices. I think a lot of it is that their own cars couldn't move on slick hills, as much as someone else blocking them.

At least 10 police officers in five states — mostly in big cities — have been attacked in the last eight days. What’s especially troubling is that several of the incidents appeared to target police officers specifically. Both criminal justice reform advocates and police unions blame the same thing: a violent crime crisis. Reformers think the violent crime spree is the result of inequality and police brutality. The cops think it’s due to lax prosecutors and spineless politicians. Whatever the reason, the number of lives lost is rising. Today, NY Times‘ columnist John McWhorter has a piece arguing that it’s time to end affirmative action, though he still favors programs that give preference to students based on income. When affirmative action was put into practice around a half-century ago, with legalized segregation so recent, it was reasonable to think of being Black as a shorthand for being disadvantaged, whatever a Black person’s socioeconomic status was. In 1960, around half of Black people were poor.

Then Biden seemed to greenlight aggression with careless words, by saying U.S. troops would be off the table in December and then talking about “minor incursions” not causing a significant response in January, then having to scramble to clean that up.
