Earlier this week the Supreme Court took up affirmative action by agreeing to hear challenges to the admissions process at two US universities. Today, NY Timesâ columnist John McWhorter has a piece arguing that itâs time to end affirmative action, though he still favors programs that give preference to students based on income.
When affirmative action was put into practice around a half-century ago, with legalized segregation so recent, it was reasonable to think of being Black as a shorthand for being disadvantaged, whatever a Black personâs socioeconomic status was. In 1960, around half of Black people were poor.

I'm sure everyone in the south agrees with you. We've thought the same thing since the '60's. It's only now been seen by the rest of the country and they don't like it either.

Affirmative action is systemic racism.
It's just that simple. It is WRONG. It should be illegal.

Forget about ending affirmative action...just show them how to get a photo ID. If they can't figure out how to get an ID let them use an arrest warrant...there, that ought to do it.

A poster made a comment the other day about the Supreme Court taking on the issue of affirmative action while Joe Biden is out there saying that he wants a black Supreme Court justice. As with the affirmative action case, why not any other race? I am starting to wonder if this is feelings of guilt for this president.

I would add black Chiefs of Police to #6's list. Are there no more white men?

When Nixon (R) signed off on affirmative action he signed the death warrant for the US Constitution. That was the day that the federal government declared war on European-Americans.
The only way to make things right is to turn Washington DC into a grease spot in the dirt.
European-Americans deserve a Homeland on the North American Continent.

Affirmative action isn't merely racial discrimination, which is obvious, it's government mandated racial discrimination, and failure to comply can result in punishment.

With all the programs available to the minorities right now, there should not be any excuses for them failing to achieve something in their lives. Yet thanks to the activists like Sharpton, Jackson and Obama, you have them telling their community that working towards achieving success in life is acting white, and that they don't have to take responsibility for their success.
So all the whining I have seen about how whites are still achieving success and minorities aren't just a bunch of balloon juice from power and money hungry activists standing on the shoulders of their fellow minorities.

I would take it a step further and pay to refurbish all of the slave ships so they can make return trips. In addition to stopping all of the whining we would save millions of dollars on gimmedat programs, free college, child care, rampant crime, carjackings, theft and murder, drug rehab, homeless shelters, safety in cities, and best of all, realistic TV programs and commercials that did not all need to have fat women singing and dancing. Why do we pay so much to make things miserable?

Knowing that Joy Reid is âopposedâ to any form of racism, she will be the first to call for the abolition of affirmative action. đ

For a thoroughly enjoyable podcast (especially to those of us who took umbrage with tenant [tenet] above) I recommend Dr. McWhorter's excellent podcast, Lexicon Valley:
