An Illinois lawmaker is highlighting shootings and other violence in parts of the Chicago known as being wealthier areas and says those neighborhoods are being overlooked or deemed ineligible for state and federal violence prevention grants for having "too much wealth."Rep. Jaime Andrade, a Democrat representing the 40th District, took to Twitter earlier this week to highlight violent conditions in an area he compared to the "Wild Wild West": Chicago’s Albany Park neighborhood, where he says he and his constituents are faced with concerns for their safety amid gunfire and gang violence (Snip) no victim is considered criminal damage to property

Comments:

Not officially a gun-crime if shooters miss their targets. That's one way to keep crime stats down.

You mean like gunfights and wildings right down on Lake Shore Drive and the Gold Coast? Fatboy Pritzker just declared gun violence in Illinois a public health problem here. Are you saying that you can't get him to send you any slush fund cash, even as a fellow commie?

Rep. Jaime Andrade, a Democrat said, "The higher taxes you pay, the less services your community gets." Yup. Once I was told that. by police I made pans to leave Long Beach, CA. Glad I got out in time. Now, the latest unreported absurdity is that empty shipping containers have been parked all over the poorer sections of LB. Within days they had been broken open and homeless people took up residence in them.

So...the only places in the Chicago-area that actually pay taxes are being given a blind-eye by law enforcement for crimes committed against the residents? I would love to know where Rep. Jaime Andrade, a Democrat representing the 40th District, gets his local campaign funded from?

Those 'wealthy' folks need to purchase a handgun and get a permit and some training. Clearly the Chicago government doesn't plan on doing anything to protect them, so they need to protect themselves. Fortunately, in 2012 a federal judge forced Illinois to enact a 'shall issue' concealed carry law with reasonable, objective standards. Any honest citizen should be able to obtain a CCW permit, which was essentially impossible prior to 2012. The judge in 2012 used the Heller and MacDonald US Supreme Court rulings as his basis. This is another reason why I think it is likely that this federal judge is correct, and the others in NY and points in the NE USA who supported very restrictive 'may issue' gun permit laws will be struck down by the SCOTUS with this new case. We won't know until next June, most likely. But MacDonald built on Heller and this new case will likely build on those two cases, further clarifying that "keep and bear" are real rights for every ordinary citizen.
