President Joe Biden got a 75-minute meeting with Pope Francis on Friday, longer than his two predecessors in the Oval Office.Biden, the nation's second Catholic president, was scheduled to be with the Pontiff for only an hour but got 30 minutes of extra time. In 2017, Francis met then President DonaldTrump for 30 minutes and, in 2014, Francis met with then President Barack Obama for 52 minutes. Biden's meeting with Pope John Paul, in 1980, in contrast, was only 45 minutes. The meeting was 'wonderful,' Biden told reporters afterwards.

ROME — The great takeaway from the coronavirus pandemic is a rejection of borders and walls, Pope Francis told the BBC on Friday morning. “Climate change and the Covid-19 pandemic have exposed our deep vulnerability and raised numerous doubts and concerns about our economic systems and the way we organize our societies,” the pope asserted in a special audio message for the launch of the COP26 Climate Conference. “The most important lesson we can take from these crises is our need to build together, so that there will no longer be any borders, barriers or political walls for us to hide behind,” he declared.

A new poll of likely voters conducted for Fox News (whose polls traditionally favor Democrats) shows a collapse in the lead Terry McAuliffe enjoyed about 2 weeks ago into an 8 percent lead for his Republican opponent Glenn Youngkin. (snip) When news leaked out that the campaign had already paid former Perkins Coie election law practice head Mark Elias $53,680 and a Fox News reporter contacted the campaign for comment, a reply apparently intended for other campaign staff was quickly sent as a reply, and it read, “Can we try to kill this.” That looks like sheer panic.

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds late Thursday said she looks forward to signing legislation that authorizes unemployment benefits for workers ousted from their jobs because of COVID-19 vaccine mandates. The bill, which passed both chambers of the legislature, also requires employers to provide medical and religious exemptions to their vaccine rules. “As I’ve stated publicly numerous times, I believe the vaccine is the best defense against COVID-19 and we’ve provided Iowans with the information they need to determine what’s best for themselves and their families, but no Iowan should be forced to lose their job or livelihood over the COVID-19 vaccine,” Ms. Reynolds, a Republican, said.

Swedish socialist economist Assar Lindbeck is semi-famous for saying that “in many cases rent control appears to be the most efficient technique presently known to destroy a city – except for bombing.” It’s becoming clearer that one of the most efficient ways to destroy the U.S. economy, outside of bombing the country, is to put Joe Biden in the White House. Economic growth in the third quarter was a meager 2%, the Commerce Department reported Thursday, the most feeble increase of the pandemic recovery. Some economists had forecast a gain closer to 3%, leaving many disappointed. As the Asia Times accurately summed it up, the U.S. “economy ground to a halt.”

Terry McAuliffe wants the voters of Virginia to give him a second term as governor, yet he refuses to be honest with them about the curricula to which students are subjected in the Old Dominion’s public school system. He continues to insist that Critical Race Theory (CRT) isn’t taught in the state’s schools while accusing his Republican opponent in Virginia’s gubernatorial contest of using CRT as a “racist dog whistle.” In reality, the Commonwealth’s education system was initially infected with this pernicious ideology during McAuliffe’s first term as governor and it has rapidly metastasized during the past four years under his Democratic successor Ralph Northam.

As we reported earlier, now the Real Clear Politics average of polls is showing Youngkin ahead of Terry McAuliffe for the first time just a few short days before the election. That’s in part due to a stunning Fox poll which shows Youngkin up over McAuliffe by eight percent. As Fox notes, that’s basically a complete reversal of the race from two weeks ago. It was 51-46% with McAuliffe up two weeks ago. Now, however, it’s Youngkin up, 53-45% among likely voters. That’s a stunning move within two weeks

A number of Texas Republicans have signed on to Rep. Chip Roy's memo calling for the impeachment of Homeland Security Sec. Alejandro Mayorkas, after the border officials apprehended a record 1.7 million migrants trying to cross illegally during the 2021 fiscal year. The letter takes issue with Mayorkas terminating the border wall, failing to take adequate legal action against illegal migrants and causing CBP to become overwhelmed, releasing migrants into the interior of the US and refusing to enforce interior immigration laws. Roy writes that Mayorkas has refused to expel most migrants under Title 42 and has ended the Migrant Protection Protocols, or the Remain in Mexico program.

Schmaling and Sgt. The investigation began on the complaint of one woman who said her mother voted despite not even being able to recognize her and beginning to hallucinate.
