Iowa bill provides unemployment benefits
to workers impacted by vaccine mandates

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds late Thursday said she looks forward to signing legislation that authorizes unemployment benefits for workers ousted from their jobs because of COVID-19 vaccine mandates. The bill, which passed both chambers of the legislature, also requires employers to provide medical and religious exemptions to their vaccine rules. “As I’ve stated publicly numerous times, I believe the vaccine is the best defense against COVID-19 and we’ve provided Iowans with the information they need to determine what’s best for themselves and their families, but no Iowan should be forced to lose their job or livelihood over the COVID-19 vaccine,” Ms. Reynolds, a Republican, said.

Comments:

Good, but why not simply forbid employers from forcing the so-called vaccine on anyone? The mandate, still to be issued, breaches the limits of what a basic employer/employee relationship should be, not unlike being forced to march in a gay parade or have sex with your boss or be fired, or anything else they might demand that has nothing at all to do with work.

Meanwhile, here in the Peoples Republic of Illinois, a bill is being advanced that allows employers in the state to fire workers for refusing the clot shot. No other reason required, and the employers will be fully indemnified by the state to do so. Fat Putzker is the one that needs fired.

Unfortunately this bill requires a medical or religious exemption to refuse a vaccine and get unemployment. Doesn't go far enough for those that just don't want the vaccine.

Insufficient as it does not address employee's health insurance needs. The employer should be required to continue to pay for health insurance coverage for 18 months, while workers transition.

A close friend is working hard to get a religious exemption, but is worried that they will be all denied, regardless of merit. If he is fired in his early 60s, it will greatly affect his retirement savings. His last child just finished college recently and he was counting on a few years of maximum savings without the cost of kids in college to top off his retirement accounts. That may be gone, and he thinks that he'll never get another similar job at his age. Reports from friends laid off in their 60s are "you may not realize it, but you just retired, if laid off at 60+". Hideous people, destroying people's lives, wrecking the economy.

China and Russia have dramatically accelerated their naval shipbuilding and modernization programs in recent years, while the U.S. has struggled to improve its own capacity for warfighting missions and been tagged with a poor readiness rating from national security analysts. As we reported earlier, now the Real Clear Politics average of polls is showing Youngkin ahead of Terry McAuliffe for the first time just a few short days before the election. It was 51-46% with McAuliffe up two weeks ago. Now, however, it’s Youngkin up, 53-45% among likely voters. That’s a stunning move within two weeks
