Teachers say heavy workload in Montgomery
Co. schools made worse by vacancies

School’s been in session for just over two months, and already, Montgomery County, Maryland, teachers say they are exhausted. Jennifer Martin, president of the Montgomery County Education Association which represents teachers and substitutes, said that under “normal” circumstances, a teacher’s day is packed.(Snip)But this year has been especially stressful, with teachers and even administrators being called upon to cover classes. The problem is the hundreds of vacancies across the school system.(Snip)“We’re really concerned that this will be a time of the ‘Great Resignation.’ A lot of folks are saying to me, ‘I’m looking to see, you know, can I retire yet?'” Martin said.

Comments:

Made worse by vacancies, or by vaccines? Ms. Martin goes on to whine about the kids not being vaccinated. When that's mandated and parents remove their kids in droves, that should ameliorate the staffing issue.

The stress is self inflicted from government and school policies you decided to implement, because you are fools. Following fools around will give anyone a stressful day.

I sincerely feel sorry for the good teachers out there. It's horrible that they share a profession and space with all the whining bullies and nutjobs like Jennifer. Maybe we are moving to a new model for education, where proper schools and/or classrooms are created outside the public schools. Our current system is failing in its original purpose, now used as re-education camps for captive young minds.

From the extreme Leftism of the Monkey County school system, it's easy to imagine all the teachers being of one mind with wokeism. Which makes it shocking to me to learn that many of their teachers would be resolved against anything deemed "progressive"... Maybe there is hope for the place after all.

I know the point is the impact vax-mandates have but seriously, teachers are exhausted after 2 months of work?! And horror or horrors, they sometimes miss their free period or lunch to cover a class for a missing teacher. Please. My husband is not part of the Zoom-economy, he has been working from his office during the "pandemic" and second, third, whatever wave were on of the pandemic. They've been shorthanded the entire time (layoffs, people quitting), he works late and rarely gets a real lunchbreak. It's called the real world and it's about time these pampered union workers get a taste of it.

I wonder how hard they work. Our locals schools have already had 4 days off. They get a full week for Thanksgiving and 2 full weeks for 'Winterfest'. In January MLK has been stretched into a 4-day holiday weekend.

I taught science as a guest instructor in a 6th grade classroom two days a week for several years. I got to be good friends with the teacher, a wonderful, smart, hard working, Christian conservative lady. She and her husband and daughter even visited us at our vacation home in Colorado for a few days. She was driven out of teaching by the horrible mandates coming down which seriously interfered with her teaching, and took a LOT of after hours time, too. Good teachers have been being driven out of schools for a long time. Recently, things have accelerated. Keep your children out of government schools.

China and Russia have dramatically accelerated their naval shipbuilding and modernization programs in recent years, while the U.S. has struggled to improve its own capacity for warfighting missions and been tagged with a poor readiness rating from national security analysts. A U.S. government watchdog on Friday accused the State Department and Pentagon of suppressing information that lawmakers and the public need to understand the collapse of Afghanistan's former government and military and the chaotic U.S. troop pullout. John Sopko, the special inspector general for Afghanistan reconstruction (SIGAR), spoke out on Friday after it emerged that many of the routine documents had now been marked as classified. 'The full picture of what happened in August—and all the warning signs that could have predicted the outcome—will only be revealed if the information that the departments of Defense and State have already restricted from public release is made available,' said Sopko.
