California took another step toward its goal of ridding the state of all gas-powered engines thanks to a new bill signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom on Saturday. The new law will ban the sale of all off-road, gas-powered engines, including generators, lawn equipment, pressure washers, chainsaws, weed trimmers, and even golf carts. Under the new law , these machines must be zero-emissions, meaning they will have to be either battery-powered or plug-in, according to the Los Angeles Times .

It's a bit insane, but it's California.
I could almost understand banning 2 strokes, but banning them all is kinda nuts.
Banning generators is truly insane, but Chain saws isn't much better.

Just like with Covid restrictions, let’s see if Newsom follows his own laws or if someone records gas powered equipment at the Governor’s mansion, or his auntie’s vineyard. California, the next time you have a chance to rid yourself of a lousy governor, do it.

More California political stupidity. When will the voters wake up and stop this buffoonery by voting every Democrat out of office?

Does this mean I can't use my 5KW gas-powered generator to keep the fridge and deep freezer running when the power goes out across the state? Only to an idiot does "plug-in" = zero emissions. And "battery-powered" obviously means rechargeable batteries, so even more electricity generated by fossil fuel coming from...somewhere.

Battery powered & plugins are actually higher emissions than gas-powered - which are not going away any time soon.
Im looking forward to some serious money importing black market gas-powered tools. . .

#14, that's hilarious. The power a human can put out is amazingly low.
Back in engineering school, when working on hybrid electric vehicles, for Engineer's Week we hooked up a stationary bike to a generator and hooked it to two standard incandescent light bulbs to demonstrate what 100 watts was really like. One bulb was a piddly 40 watts and the other a normal 100 watts, and the rider could switch on one, or the other or both.
Riders did fine powering the 40 watt bulb, but when they went to the 100 watt bulb, they found it was work. With both bulbs on, even the best were quickly tiring, bulbs dimming.
A SMALL portable generator can put out 2,000 watts forever, and a typical medium one is 4 to 6,000 watts. The small will supply twenty 100 watt bulbs, and the medium, sixty 100 watt bulbs. Whole house standby units are often 15,000 watts and more. 150 of the 100 watt bulbs.
People power is pathetic.

Oh no! How will the cheap Mexican labor manicure the lawns of the rich and powerful? Where does one purchase a half acre or longer extension cord? I'm sure there will be exemptions for the elite, just as there are for the vaccines and masks.

Those "progressives" have also been at war with the cattle industry because of the carbon content of bovine farts. I suggest they should adjust their welcoming attitude toward illegal "immigrants" because of the carbon content of their farts.

While most will focus on the long list of lawn equipment, the most damaging part of this is the ban on gas powered generators. Without gas powered generators, when the power grid goes down individuals will be left with no back-up options in their homes. Also, there will be no back-up options for charging all those electric cars.

Guess you have to use a sickle to cut the grass, and a hand saw to cut down anything larger.
Instead of a hammer and sickle, California's flag can be a hand saw and sickle.
Nothing like going backwards. The people running California are anti-technology.

When a city or town is experiencing an electric power outage, how is a person going to get power from a portable generator that only runs if it is plugged in to an electric power plug, when all the plugs in a city or town do not have live electric power running through them?

That will be great after the next earthquake of wildfire when there is no electricity to power, or ways to charge all of the battery powered things being mandated. Of course, when all of the windmills and solar panels are destroyed by the fires and earthquakes there will be no power for anything so nobody will be able to drive anywhere in their battery powered cars either.
