Most Americans no longer trust President Biden to give accurate information about the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the latest Axios/Ipsos Coronavirus Index. Conducted Sept. 24-27, the survey of 1,105 Americans over the age of 18 reported that only 45% trust President Biden “a great deal or a fair amount” to give them honest information about the virus, while 53% trust him “very little or not at all.” “Fewer than half now say they trust the president, a 13-percentage point decline from his high water mark right after his inauguration in January,” wrote the survey’s four authors.

Police across the country are filing lawsuits, requesting exemptions and considering quitting or getting fired over their opposition to coronavirus vaccine mandates. Nearly 200 San Francisco police officers have applied for religious exemptions to avoid a required inoculation by Oct. 13 or risk being fired. A survey this month of 733 members of the San Diego Police Officers Association showed about 91% (667) do not believe vaccines should be mandated and 45% (333) said they would rather be fired than comply with a vaccine mandate. Seven Denver police officers sued local officials last week, arguing that it is unlawful to order city employees to be vaccinated

President Biden's top military adviser offered a devastating verdict on the U.S. war in Afghanistan during congressional testimony on Wednesday, saying for the first time that the 20-year conflict ended in defeat. Administration officials have repeatedly claimed the conflict achieved its objective of degrading Al Qaeda in the wake of the 9/11 attacks and ensuring Afghanistan could not be used to launch attacks against the U.S.(Snip)'The war was a strategic failure,' he said during his opening statement to the House Armed Services Committee. He was later asked whether Biden's decisions were to blame.

More than 180 health care workers spanning hospital systems across Minnesota are asking for an injunction to stop their employers from mandating they be vaccinated from COVID-19, saying the directive violates religious freedoms and other state and federal laws.
A lawsuit filed Monday in U.S. District Court includes unnamed plaintiffs from hospitals and clinics across Minnesota and identifies nearly two dozen health care institutions as defendants, along with other federal health officials. Those being sued include some of the state's top health care facilities, such as Mayo Clinic, Fairview Health Services, University of Minnesota Physicians and Regions Hospital.(Snip)"Plaintiffs' employers are placing a substantial burden on their employees

United Airlines said Tuesday that 593 of its employees are facing termination for failing to comply with its Covid-19 vaccination policy, one of the strictest mandates for inoculation from a U.S. company. More than 96% of United’s 67,000-person U.S. workforce complied with the vaccine requirement. The deadline to upload proof of inoculation, or the first shot if receiving a two-dose vaccine, was late Monday. Roughly 2,000 United employees sought exemptions from the mandate, which the airline announced this summer, for religious or medical reasons. The Chicago-based airline had said staff to whom it grants such exemptions will be placed on temporary unpaid leave.

A senior U.S. Army flight surgeon with specialized training in infectious diseases has filed an affidavit against the Biden administration’s vaccine mandate for active-duty military personnel, warning that problematic heart side effects may cause pilots to die in mid-flight. Lt. Col. Theresa Long, the surgeon responsible for certifying the fitness of 4,000 flight-ready airmen at the 1st Aviation Brigade in Ft. Rucker, Alabama, said that she is concerned that the vaccines can cause inflamed heart muscles in young men in the age range of most flight-ready pilots, and that the Department of Defense has not followed its own protocols by requiring an MRI scan

The MTA faces dire fiscal straits when COVID-19 emergency funding dries up—and may be forced to scale back sorely-needed repairs if Congress fails to pass the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill, State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli said Tuesday. Transit officials face a $1 billion deficit come 2025—yet plan to increase spending by an average of 4.2 percent per year, more than the expected rate of inflation, DiNapoli said in his annual review of the $19 billion-per-year transportation authority.(Snip)Officials were only able to close the massive revenue hole thanks to $15 billion in federal relief and by borrowing $2.9 billion that had been intended

Teen climate activist Greta Thunberg mocked President Biden’s “Build Back Better” plan as she chastised world leaders Tuesday for their “empty” promises of eco-action—dismissing it all as “blah, blah, blah.” “This is all we hear from our so-called leaders: Words. Words that sound great but so far have led to no action,” the 18-year-old Swedish activist told crowds at the Youth4Climate summit in Milan, Italy. “This is not about some expensive, politically correct green act of bunny hugging, or blah, blah, blah. Build Back Better, blah, blah, blah,” she said, deriding Biden’s controversial $3.5 trillion post-COVID plan. “Green economy, blah, blah, blah.

Schools are not the main source of COVID-19 spread and do not cause a spike in cases, a new study suggests. Researchers from the Institute of Tropical Medicine and International Health in Berlin looked the results of Covid tests across dozens of classrooms across between February 2021 and March 2021. They found that just two students and one teacher tested positive, even as the Alpha variant that originated in the UK was gaining dominance in Germany.(Snip)For the study, published on Tuesday in JAMA Network Open, the team looked at 24 school classes—12 primary and 12 secondary—across Berlin. Of the 898 participants, 263 were students

The nation's top military commander told senators on Tuesday that U.S. credibility had been 'damaged by President Biden's hasty exit from Afghanistan.
In his first congressional testimony on the withdrawal, Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said his view had long been that leaving the country, without meeting specific conditions, would likely lead to the collapse of the Afghan armed forces and government.
Milley was speaking alongside the secretary of defense and the top U.S. commander in the region at the start of two days of intense questioning about the tumultuous withdrawal.

Marvel has abruptly canceled its “Guardians of the Galaxy” comic book, a rebooted series in which several members of the troupe of galaxy-hopping superheroes came out as bisexual or gay.(Snip)“Peter Quill came out as bisexual (Guardians of the Galaxy No. 9), Richard Rider (Nova) admitted his love for Quill, Moondragon and Genis-Vell were married, and Hercules and Marvel Boy started a relationship,” Mr. Lynch wrote in a Sept. 24 article. “It was clear that Ewing cares about these characters and it spilled out in his writing and it’s unfortunate that the series is ending after so much thoughtful storytelling.”
