Marvel cancels ‘Guardians’ comic book
in which characters came out as gay

Marvel has abruptly canceled its “Guardians of the Galaxy” comic book, a rebooted series in which several members of the troupe of galaxy-hopping superheroes came out as bisexual or gay.(Snip)“Peter Quill came out as bisexual (Guardians of the Galaxy No. 9), Richard Rider (Nova) admitted his love for Quill, Moondragon and Genis-Vell were married, and Hercules and Marvel Boy started a relationship,” Mr. Lynch wrote in a Sept. 24 article. “It was clear that Ewing cares about these characters and it spilled out in his writing and it’s unfortunate that the series is ending after so much thoughtful storytelling.”

Comments:

You mean there's not much of a market for it? Given the representation in mainstream culture you'd think people would be lining up around the block for the next issue.

They just wanna "Brokeback" everything...That was a one off...and it was sheepherders not Cowboys. For Gaurdians? Maybe 'visit' a place where that is 'normal', but intergalactic heroes are more Cowboy than shepherd. And "normal" is and has always been what MOST people do and/or like...Trying to normalize abnormality to the REST of the world(Galaxy) is a losing proposition.

Maybe it finally occurred to the Marvell people that we like Guardians of the Galaxy because it is fun and the characters get along. Besides some sexual tension between Quill and Gatorade, everyone is fairly asexual. Not everything needs the characters sexual orientation explored.

Hollywood is disgusting. The other night I watched Tom Clancy's "Without Remorse" after reading that fantastic book way back when it was written. The main character who was a SEAL of Irish descent, John Kelly, was portrayed by a black man who actually did a good acting job but the outrage was a black female who played a SEAL officer. Stupidity in the name of diversity. No woman of any color will ever become a SEAL unless they relax the standards or pull some kind of transgender joke.

Say what you want about the basement dwelling nerds that still read comic books, almost all of them desire females. They may never have a shot of actually getting to touch a real woman, but they still fantasize about them. These woke storylines making characters homosexuals just for the sake of making them homosexuals just isn't appealing at all. If you turn off the people you are trying to sell your comic books too, that doesn't leave much of a market to sell your comic books elsewhere. No market, no sales. Economics 101 in real life. I love it when "go woke, go broke" just keeps proving itself over and over again in the real world!!!
