More than 60 cases of the new Delta-plus variant have been detected in the San Francisco-Bay area as coronavirus cases continue to rise throughout the country. According to the Santa Clara Public Health Department, there were 64 reported cases of the new COVID strain detected in the county as of August 5. The new strain, an off-shoot of the highly-transmissible Delta variant, is thought to be more contagious than its predecessor, but is still not the most common variant in the area—with more than 700 cases of the alpha variant reported.(Snip)'We believe that its at least as bad as Delta,'

There is no "Delta variant" test. Covid is the flu and the test only show that you have a "flu".

So tired of all of the fear-mongering. If people get sick they can stay home. Leave the rest of us alone.

I wouldn't get overworked by this. When a virus mutates it loses it's virility.
Sounds like more fake news to keep us under control.

Something is very wrong here. We are now seeing more versions of covid than new software I download on my I-Phone. I mean it's like every week we are seeing a new covid show up. Think about it, maybe this is how the Chinese engineered it. Knowing there will be a vaccine for the first covid-19, they engineer the virus to automatically create a new versions of itself....In another day it would be called germ warfare, but not today with democrats in bed with and controlled by China.....And nobody say a word. Got it....

Where's the Delta Plus Plus? Why don't they call it the Delta Alpha?
One quoted doctor sums it up pretty well - "The fact there's a Delta plus doesn't mean this is going to be any better or worse,' she said. 'At this point, we just don't know."
It makes me wonder. When I go down and stand in the testing line, do they test me for all the variants? Can their normal (Yes/no) tests distinguish them? If not, how many samples are examined to see which of the growing smorgasbord of variants it contains? At this point, it is reasonable to suspect they simply don't know. There may be dozens of variants. A reasonable person might suspect that they're just pulling data out of their ****s.

Well aside from the possibility these are natural mutations, there is also the possibility that the Chinese are fine tuning the virus as they evaluate its effectiveness on target populations (by age, sex, deadliness, etc.). It would be nearly impossible to detect, place blame, and create countermeasures fast enough. This is a diabolically clever bioweapon. And the Democrats are the perfect co-conspirator.

I don't live in SF. That is a personal choice. I am not a socialist, or my brother's keeper. I have enough business of my own to worry about that, and leave everyone else alone.

Just returned from the grocery store that had a sign requiring masks - didn't wear one, as did most other customers, and surprisingly, the staff.

I don’t think the Chinese engineered this virus to mutate newer, deadlier strains. I don’t think they’re that smart. For heavens sake, they’ve had to steal their innovations from us, just to stay up in today’s world. I think that virus gets into some bodies that are being kept alive with strange pea soup mixtures of medicines and the virus is reacting to that particular environment. We may see some really horrendous variants before this burns out but the worst will be localized and quick-lived.
And no, I don’t have a medical degree, just using common sense.

Historically, pathogens have mutated to become more easily transmitted and less deadly, while the host species has adapted to become more resistant to the pathogen. Eventually, the pathogen is a 'chronic disease' such as the common cold, which kills very few, but infects very many.
This has been predicted all along. Viruses which use RNA as their genetic code storage mechanism are inherently unstable, and more prone to "typographical errors" when replicating, which causes faster mutations than DNA viruses like smallpox which are stable on a centuries timescale, and, therefore, more amenable to a vaccine.

Its funny how so many commentators qualify by saying “I’m not a doctor, but”...opinion.
At this point, the “doctors” and expert scientists, much less politicians, have no unified opinion. So, your opinion, bullshoot or not, is as good as anyone’s. It may be years before the “facts” become clear. Assuming that we survive that long.

They actually told us several months ago that as the virus mutates, it will become more easily transmissible. So this turn of events shouldn't surprise anyone. But they also told us that as it becomes more transmissible, it becomes less deadly. Stats have borne this out to be true as well. Deaths from the Delta Variant are down 90% from the original variant. Yet the Rats in power are acting like everybody is once again on death's doorstep and rushing to implement the same policies that failed a year ago but benefited themselves during the election. You have to ask yourself what they're aiming at now. Clearly they are cherry picking data and ignoring inconvenient facts in pursuit of an objective, and you can guarantee that their objective would be good for them but bad for America.

If it's the delta variant but let's not forget the dangerous alpha variant and there could be a lambda variant and a whole Greek alphabet of variants and uhh wait I'm confused, where's my script?

Well I care. I care about this virus and those who have died from it, and all the others that will come our way because of the success of COVID-19. You think the ChiComs are going to stop now they've come this far? Those that don't care are either too old to have all the variants affect them, or have no off-spring, or both.

The virus mutated thanks to the vaccination program, as experts warned, and now, perhaps through exposure to HIV antiretrovirals, has mutated yet again. Dr. Peter Chin-Hong, quoted in the article, says we might even run out of Greek letters. What then, Science™, what then?
