The University of Wisconsin removed a controversial boulder from its Madison campus Friday after the Black Student Union and other activists objected to its description nearly 100 years ago with a racial slur. Chamberlin Rock, which rests atop Observatory Hill, is named after a 19th Century geologist and former university president, Thomas Crowder Chamberlin, whose work centered on glacial deposits, according to a bio on the university’s website. But it was a reporter’s reference to the rock in a nearly century-old Wisconsin State Journal article that prompted the push for its removal. In October 1925, the university had the boulder excavated and placed prominently atop the hill to honor Chamberlin,

Changing the name wouldn't be enough? They had to remove the rock, itself? That is too stupid for words...

They would be better off removing the snowflake activists, as opposed to taking these imbeciles seriously.
FYA: "Now is a moment for all of us BIPOC students to breathe a sigh of relief, to be proud of our endurance, and to begin healing." This is beneath pathetic.

College had to spend $55,000, hired an all white crew, without college degrees, getting paid BIIIG bucks to work on a sunday(not to mention al of the engineers, consultants and lawyers paid through other funds in the run up to the move) Which benefited "BIPOC" people ZERO, in fact took monies away from other potential programs.. And this they call a "Victory"?

An afterthought: a rock is eternally patient. Long after all historical memory has ceased and no recollection of human activity is present, that rock will still be firmly planted after countless more millennia.

As a UW alumnus, I am not surprised at this idiocy. Needless to say they will never see another dime of my money unless I decide to include them in my will for a contribution of one dollar complete with this story as the explanation for why that is all that I left to UW.

FTA:"Student groups had also demanded the removal of an Abraham Lincoln statue from campus – but university leaders rejected that request."
At least the University "leaders" were able to fend off the removal of that notorious slave owner and racist Abraham Lincoln's statue. .
This insanity MUST stop.

I've lived in Madison my entire adult life and earned two degrees at UW-Madison. I never once heard the offensive term used to describe this 42 ton glacial erratic, which had been sitting here minding its own business for 12,000 years. Almost a century ago the State Journal, our local rag, printed this offensive term. This offensive term has not been used in any other publication. A sane "woke" person (an oxymoron, I know) would demand that the State Journal be canceled for their offense. An insane "woke" person would demand the the innocent and inoffensive, geologically significant erratic boulder be canceled. And so the boulder was thrown off campus while the activists practically broke their arms patting themselves on the back.

The woke do seem to have a fixation with rocks. IIRC, former Governor of Texas Rick Perry was excoriated because of faded old writing on a rock somewhere on his hunting ranch. How do they think this stuff up? Do they have cadres of minions scouring every woodland for offensive rocks?

I'm with #9. You have to do something to get the administration's attention. And just how much money do you think this current student body of wokester's will be donating to UW after they leave. I will wager it will be less than #9's will of $1.

There are no adults left in charge of university campuses. Adults have to tell children NO once in a while. Remember S.I. Hayakawa, who ripped the speaker wires out from a sound truck at San Francisco State University back in the 60s?

Let me get this straight. Almost 100 years ago a reporter referred to the rock with a racist term. Some snowflake somewhere heard about it, and now BIPOC students are afraid of the rock and demanded it's removal. Really? With all of the real problems in the world these moron activist students have a lot more to worry about. How about black on black crime. Black s fatherless homes, drugs, poor education, and all of the other self inflicted problems?

Since the Great Wall of China was built to keep out foreigners, I wonder whether the woke left would favor dismantling it as being the ultimate in Trumpy. And what about the Pyramids of Egypt having been built by (gasp) slave labor? Goodbye, King Tut and the poiinty monuments? Don't look now, but the Tower of London was not a very nice place to live or die if you were married to King Henry VIII. Talk about spousal abuse! That place has to be leveled as well.
