Five self-proclaimed 'sovereign citizens', including a dentist and a sex offender, have been charged after they moved into a widow's $1.5 million home after she put it on the market, changed the locks and filed bogus legal documents to claim ownership. The homeowner, who has asked not been named out of fears for her safety, had listed the property and moved out after her husband - a prominent commercial real estate broker - died last year, the Baltimore Sun reported. (Snip) Concerned neighbors called the owner after the squatters put up a chain across her driveway and signs warning trespassers to keep

Beautiful home. Squatters tried to claim the home for themselves - claiming it was abandoned property. One of the squatters is named Ayyannaabe.

In California, if they illegally squatted more than 30 days they would have the legal right to stay. It could take her years to kick them out and tons of legal fees and even then all that would happen is a simple eviction, no charges.

Sovereign citizens encountered on the highway like to say they're not driving--they're "traveling," which never gets them far with either cops or judges. Good for a laugh or two. BTW, when is A&E going to bring back Live PD?

Here is what is quoted in the article: The Southern Poverty Law Center notes: 'They clog up the courts with indecipherable filings and, when cornered, many of them lash out, retaliating through acts of paper terrorism and, in the most extreme cases, acts of deadly violence – usually directed against government officials.’ That tends to explain the homeowner’s fear of disclosure of her name. Even the SPLC disapproves of them...

I have an unoccupied house. Would never rule out the possibility of one day getting a calling informing me I have squatters. Can see this happening more and more in our age of entitlement. Wish Live PD would be back on TV as well. Wonder if the police and the producers of the show are now having safety concerns. Can see somebody using the show to ambush police.

The same type of incident happened in my area. The trespasser moved into a house that was in foreclosure. He went to court to get the ownership transferred to him. He moved in furniture. The house was sold and the real estate agent called the police when she saw the furniture in the house.

Save the courts all the time and effort. Get a citizens committee to forcibly remove them, have them tarred and feathered, and then abandoned in downtown Watts.

This won't work in certain areas here in the South. Some of these homeowners would take a shotgun to someone trying to steal their home.

Although the pandemic disrupted family life across the U.S. since taking hold in spring 2020, some parents are grateful for one consequence: They're now opting to homeschool their children, even as schools plan to resume in-person classes. The specific reasons vary widely. Some families who spoke with The Associated Press have children with special educational needs; others seek a faith-based curriculum or say their local schools are flawed. The common denominator: They tried homeschooling on what they thought was a temporary basis and found it beneficial to their children. “That’s one of the silver linings of the pandemic – I

After Team USA lost its Olympic opener to France, 83-76, on Sunday, ESPN analyst Tim Legler posited that perhaps this result could be a "good thing" for the Americans -- that it could serve as a "wake-up call" as they move forward in their quest for a fourth straight gold medal. Funny thing about that: Gregg Popovich and Jayson Tatum said the same thing after the U.S. lost to Nigeria two weeks ago in Las Vegas.
