The 2020 Olympics officially got underway on Saturday with the first 11 of 339 gold medals, plus their silver and bronze siblings, meeting their new owners in Tokyo. For the first time in nearly a half-century of the Summer Olympics, none of those new owners were American. According to Olympic historian Bill Mallon, it was the first medal-less Day 1 for the United States since Munich in 1972. While a medal-less Day 1 isn't infrequent in the Winter Olympics for the U.S. — the same thing happened in 2018 at Pyeongchang — the only other time the United States didn't have a

The ChiComs, like the Soviets and East Germans during the cold war, have legions of professional athletes who are sorted out of their 1.5 billion population with a fine sieve, and drafted into pro sports if they show promise at an early age. Hard for random amateurs to compete with a giant government professional team system.

Americans are not getting their subsidy's worth! Send these professionals more money, that's the answer. I am boycotting the Olympics. It is nothing more than a "woke" professional sports spectacular, a springboard to riches, under the guise of athletics. Our nationalism is misplaced. They could as well put Nike, Addidas, or UnderArmor as the "nations" represented.

I'm having great fun telling people I'm not watching because we are OneWorld now and it seems senseless to pit one country against another. We are all citizens of the planet Earth and should be working together in a unified way---not competing. However, if bonafide teams are required, the teams of worldwide athletes should not be be organized by country, but rather by skin color, religion or sexual orientation. Just think, if teams were organized this way nobody would have to take a knee or turn their back on a flag.

I often read the comments after the articles posted on L.com for insight and wit. In this case, it is sadly lacking. Many of you, if you even read the article, have conflated USA teams in general with the women’s soccer team and a few other airheaded showboats. Athletes in fencing and rifle haven’t been anti-American to my knowledge and no Americans competed in judo or taekwondo at all. Anymore, the Olympics are about as pertinent as World’s Fairs and are mostly unlistenable because of the constant inane broadcast blather and the overly sentimental woke nonsensical pap called “up close and personal stories” that are as predictable as they are unmemorable. But snide remarks which grossly generalize fools like Meghan Rapinoe as being representative of American participants are nonsensical blather themselves and I hope we are better than that.

Although the pandemic disrupted family life across the U.S. since taking hold in spring 2020, some parents are grateful for one consequence: They're now opting to homeschool their children, even as schools plan to resume in-person classes. The specific reasons vary widely. Some families who spoke with The Associated Press have children with special educational needs; others seek a faith-based curriculum or say their local schools are flawed. The common denominator: They tried homeschooling on what they thought was a temporary basis and found it beneficial to their children. “That’s one of the silver linings of the pandemic – I
