The White House announced Thursday that most federal workers will have Friday off due to the new Juneteenth federal holiday, which President Biden will sign into law Thursday afternoon. White House chief of staff Ron Klain announced the surprise three-day weekend on Twitter. “Today [Biden] will sign the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act, establishing June 19th as a federal holiday. As the 19th falls on a Saturday, most federal employees will observe the holiday tomorrow, June 18th,” Klain tweeted.(Snip) Then-Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) proposed in 2012 that the date receive federal recognition and last year Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) dusted off

Comments:

Bidet's puppeteers do whatever they like, whereas the dictator Donald Trump followed the rules and was stymied by his own party at every turn. Here, it's amusing no note that this latest element of Beclowned USA began with Republican pandering.

Also, if 95% of "federal workers" took an entire year off, or more, would ordinary people notice?

It's a day to celebrate the end of slavery, so it must be to honor all those people, black and white but mostly white, on the Union/Republican side who fought and many of whom died so that could happen. Right? Right?

Actually, I do hereby purpose a "Julyteenth" to celebrate the magnificent day sometime in the near future when patriots rise up, overthrow the Communist government, and deport every slacker of whatever race, color, or bad haircut to their favorite third world country that they believe is better for their preferred lifestyle.

Juneteenth is a day with great signficance as slaves in Texas learned of their freedom. That's a good thing to celebrate, although a national holiday may be a stretch. And certainly not a national holiday on less than 24 hours notice. Wonder what holiday we can get on board so the fed workers can get next Friday off, too?. And the Hispanic folks and LGBTQWXYZ folks are gonna get upset that they're not getting any holidays and the black folks got two (MLK day and Juneteenth).

It’s going along with the “woke” or “cancel culture” to have two separate Independence Days, a new “Juneteenth Independence Day for the “decedents” of slaves on June 19th, that encompasses most Black people in the USA; and the traditional Independence Day on the 4th of July for everyone else in the USA. What would the Rev. M.L. King have thought of today’s US Black people voluntarily moving back into what amounts to them segregating themselves from the greater US population?

Another black holiday? Well, I get it. After black history month and MLK day, not to mention all the indoctrination in the schools, the ferals stopped rioting, burning and murdering. Another one is bound to make things even better. I learned in high school history class that America was founded and built by blacks and women, and a couple white guys nobody remembers. How many holidays are actually celebrated by a significant number of people? Maybe 3? The rest are just 3 day weekends.
