Black Americans are 3.5 times more likely
to visit the ER for car crash injuries
than white patients, CDC report finds

Black Americans are much more likely to visit emergency rooms (ERs) than whites for car crash injuries, a new report finds. Newly released Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data show that about five out of every 1,000 Americans visit the ER for wounds in motor vehicle accidents. Researchers found black Americans were much more likely to face car crash injuries with have a rate of 15.2 ER visits for every 1,000 people compared to a rate of 4.3 for every 1,000 for white Americans. Additionally, young adults, those in the South, and those with less comprehensive insurance are also more likely to visit

Comments:

It's because cars are racist against bLACK people specifically, as Hispanics have lower ER usage than WHITE people. Certainly not because they're careless drivers with poor impulse control, or because people on Medicaid get ER care for free, or even because they're looking to scam injury claims on lawsuits.

This is how the feds spend our tax dollars. Good thing they're off today in honor of Juneteemph or they'd be making more mischief. FTA: "The CDC says it's not sure why black Americans are more likely to be injured but add that the disparities may have worsened more in recent years due to poverty and even potentially racism."

Wear your seatbelts, people. That's 90% of whether you get hurt in an accident. Of course, the frequency of driving drunk and drugged also has a big influence, too.

I knew it I just knew it. As part of our Systemic Racist System, the white oppressors in the automobile industries have programmed all the computers in our cars to seek out and hit all black people whether driving cars or walking on the streets. Ban all autos and torch the automobile plants! Who would have ever thunk it - Ex-Dictator Obama, Al Sharpton, and that ancient tottering mummy Obscene Walters were right all along! By the way could trying to get some o' dat free insurance money be part of the higher visits to an emergency room? Just Wondering.

Seatbelts be racist, yo. If a white man tells you something is helpful, then it must be anti-black and devoutly to be ignored. My guess would be that lack of seatbelt usage, being under the influence of alcohol or drugs and distracted driving factor into the injuries. Also, in view of the numbers of black males who commit carjackings, I would be highly unlikely to stop if such a person stepped out in front of my car as I was approaching. I would try my best to go around him but would try to stay in motion if at all possible. Sad that the actions of some blacks make you doubt a lot of them, but I don't intend to die in the name of fairness.

So, because they can't drive its somebody else's fault. And, race and poverty may be the problem. Give me a freakin break. Talk about a freakin waste of money for a useless study this is it. How about they show how many times they crashed cars after being chased by a cop. How many times have they crashed a car after they carjacked it or just stole it. How about a study showing the number of crimes they commit while being only 14% of the population, how about a study of how many graduate high school compared to other groups. How about a study showing the amount of damage, in dollars, they do in rioting. Total insanity.

I guess the cars have optical sensors so that when a black person is at the wheel they crash themselves more often than with white people at the wheel. Of course, nothing that the driver does has anything at all to do with how many accidents happen, right? Gee....same exact cars, yet 3.5 times as many blacks in ER......MAYBE blacks get into 3.5 as many accidents? Nah, couldn't be true, right? Oh, wait - I know - it MUST BE that white folks are ramming their cars into the black folks that causes it, those crazy white supremacists again. But, but --- I wonder why those white supremacists don't need to go to the ER when they are ramming all those black folks? Any explanations? It's got to be racism, but I can't quite figure it out, and my brain is already in a pretzel getting this far. 🙄 /s off

Maybe some of the disparity can be due to fewer Blacks taking Driver Ed IN school? If so, is this because of dropping out of school before the course is offered, or even if it's offered? You can take such a course outside of school. But this would be important part of the data, i would think. It seems to me that THE most important thing for the health and welfare of our fellow citizens who are Black is to make sure the kids get to and from school safely, and make sure the schools are clean and safe(safe for students AND teachers/administrative staff, etc), so learning is paramount and the children can graduate better able to move into adulthood as responsible citizens.

The more useful statistic might be how many of those car crash hospital visits are for whiplash. I'd lay odds that white folks suffer a little whiplash and they choose bed rest and maybe a chiropractic visit or muscle relaxers for a week. Not an immediate visit to the ER for a complete whiplash workup.

California is adopting former Donald Trump's plan to thin out the state's 33 million acres of forests with controlled burns and raking the woodland floor —after state officials essentially laughed off the former president's idea a few years ago. Trump had suggested in 2018 that the Golden State start sweeping its forest floors of debris that often aids in the spread of wildfires. But by Aug. 2020, at the peak of the state's wildfire season, his suggestion became an ultimatum when he withheld wildfire financial aid on the basis of California's failure to clear its forests of dead trees, branches and leaves, Politico reported at the time.
