A former San Francisco substitute teacher has pleaded guilty to three federal sex tourism charges after admitting that he repeatedly traveled to Vietnam to engage in 'illicit sexual conduct' with boys as young as 11. Paul Bodner, 65, entered the guilty pleas Tuesday in US District Court for the Northern District of California. He faces up to 30 years in prison. Bodner, who until recently was employed as a substitute teacher in the San Francisco Unified School District, was indicted in January of last year stemming from his foreign travels from July 2015 through August 2016.(Snip)Over the course of his 35-year career, he faced numerous allegations

Notice that this is federal charges. In San Fran this sort of behavior is considered to be perfectly OK.

Evidently this is considered acceptable Gay Man behavior in San Francisco, seeing how they kept him around little kids in the classroom. FTA: "In 2004, police uncovered a video that allegedly showed Bodner performing sex acts with Asian males of 'questionable age,' and another recording that depicted Asian children, aged 5 to 10, on a playground. Bodner was spared charges in those cases and went on teaching for another 15 years."

While I honestly believe that pedophiles who engage in forcing (or statutorily) sex upon minors should be castrated I am troubled that the U.S. has laws that claim legal jurisdiction of your actions while in a foreign country, where there laws may be completely different. While it seems a good thing in this instance, what is to prevent the Biden administration from having your arrested when you come back from another country because you drove 130 miles an hour? I know its a silly example but hopefully you get the gist of where I'm going.

Fully agree with #3. While this guy is clearly garbage, the US government has absolutely no business prosecuting people for actions undertaken in other nations. This should never have seen a court room in the US.

I get the jurisdiction concerns. The child pornography offenses occurred here in the USA, so they could prosecute those until he is extradited to Vietnam. Yes, it's a crime in Vietnam and this guy would beg to not be put into one of those prisons. Seems like an excellent idea to me.

California is adopting former Donald Trump's plan to thin out the state's 33 million acres of forests with controlled burns and raking the woodland floor —after state officials essentially laughed off the former president's idea a few years ago. Trump had suggested in 2018 that the Golden State start sweeping its forest floors of debris that often aids in the spread of wildfires. But by Aug. 2020, at the peak of the state's wildfire season, his suggestion became an ultimatum when he withheld wildfire financial aid on the basis of California's failure to clear its forests of dead trees, branches and leaves, Politico reported at the time.
