Toby’s Tale: How an Abandoned Dog Went from
Roadside to a Life of Comfort and Love

The first rescue dog entered my life in 1950. He was a St. Bernard living in the cramped city apartment of an elderly lady who was kind but couldn’t care for a giant, even a gentle one like Buddy. Early the first morning of our life together I rushed downstairs in our rural Ohio home to see him. There, on the back porch were strewn the gnawed remains of his new leather harness and leash. [Snip] Toby was found sitting in a dirty puddle, shivering, befuddled. He went to the car willingly. Next day Toby wouldn’t even look at me. He was

I've had 9 dogs in my live. 8 have be my favorite breed: Rescues. I really believe that a rescued dog knows they've been rescued and are grateful for it. My 9 dogs were all wonderful companions for me and my kids. My life was richer and more meaningful for having these dogs in my life. If you have ever dumped a dog, I hope you rot in hell.

The first Malcolm story that I have enjoyed in a LONG time, and also the first from that poster. Not the typical fare from either. A great improvement.

We have two rescues, a brother and sister Black Labs, they are over 10 yrs old and currently are tearing up a couple of pig ears. :) The don't come when you call, but they get it. The male shakes through out the night when he 'dreams'. All I can do is hold him...he calms down. Consider senior dogs, make those last few years really count.

We started with pure bred dogs. Then picked a rescue! He was the best dog we ever owned...until we got another rescue! He's even better than the last! I would never, ever get a pure bred again.

We’ve had 3, one raised from a puppy and 2 senior rescues. Agree with another poster—senior rescues are the best. Even though we only had about 2 years with each of the seniors, it was sweet. All 3 were lab mixes. Best doggos. Great post, thanks.

Since we moved to the country we’ve had a lot of dogs. We currently have 7. A few years back two of our females were having a personality issue. I discussed it with our vet who asked about the make/female ratio. She suggested if we get more, we get males. She said they’re called bitches for a reason.

Delightful story. Thank you for talking good care of those babies until they can be placed. I think dogs are charming but cats fit my style better than a dog would. All have been strays except for one. They were visitors to my food and water bowls I keep at the back door. Some I cannot touch but I still have a relationship with them. The ones that were approachable happily live in my home with other backdoor siblings. I've had new borns to oldie goldies. Love them all. Anyone who harms an animal needs the crap kicked out of them. I do not understand cruelty.

God does work in mysterious ways. Tim Tebow would agree. And now the devout Christian athlete has shown it again. What a story! That team is now coached by – wait for it – Tebow’s former collegiate coach, Urban Meyer, who’s branded success wherever he’s coached. The Chicago Commissioner of Sanitation once told me there was one pre-summer day every year when it seemed most city residents, as if on some unspoken communal signal, suddenly decide together it’s time for the annual Spring Cleaning. No one ever announces that day. It never appears on any calendar. It is, as if on one common Saturday with the days growing longer and warmer, millions of humans wake up and feel the psychic need in weekend unison, “I must

Here’s a contrary thought: The banishment of Donald Trump from the omnipotent octopus of Big Tech’s social media is actually good for his return to presidential politics, if indeed he’s serious about pulling off a Grover Cleveland-style return in 2024. The absence of a steady stream of his angry, indulgent tweets from the online consciousness of most Americans allows that tedious torrent of tumult to drift into the foggy memories of an inattentive nation that grew tired of it, despite Trump’s numerous policy successes. In 2017, when Barack Obama left the White House, he had conducted 416 fundraisers in 417 weeks in office. That was an accurate reflection of his political priority — Money.
