For British viewers, Oprah Winfrey’s bombshell special on the royal family was also an exposé of the American pharmaceutical industry.
Those in England who streamed Sunday’s interview with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were shocked to see advertisements for prescription drugs including Skyrizi, Kisqali and Jardiance. Advertising prescription drugs is banned in the United Kingdom — and most of the world, excluding the US and New Zealand. (Snip) “These medical adverts and the side effects though. American healthcare truly is a business,” noted a third.
Other critics called the ads “surreal” and “unhinged” and said they made them feel like they were “in some post-apocalyptic world.”

I fondly remember a time when neither lawyers nor drug manufacturers were allowed to advertise on television. Accelerated medical costs and escalation in the number of tort cases soon followed.

Side effects include belching, flatulence, ED, and death. You probably don't need this medication, but call up your provider and demand they prescribe it for you anyways.

Ah, but they are in awe of and envious of our “American teeth”….
(I loathe those commercials.. Intended to stir viewers to ask their doctors to prescribe those meds, they rarely tell what condition(s) the meds are intended to treat.)

I have to wonder if the Brits allow booze to be consumed during an advertisement? Or if they allow cigarettes to be advertised? I remember when NASCAR was Winston Cup. ha!

I don't have network TV but every time I go into an office where it is on, I am amazed at the sheer number of prescription drugs that are advertised. My grandmother took a lot of medication and was almost zombie like until she came to live with my mother. Mom and the doctor reduced her medications drastically and she was her old self again. She lived to be 99.

Something just occurred to me. At some point ads for prescription drugs had to include side effects, which is why we hear all of that … The Brits did not want to hear the side effects...

I rarely watch live television BECAUSE of these ads. Instead, I record them and zoom past the commercials entirely. It makes the show go faster and I don't have stupid drug ad jingles stuck in my head.

They have had 90% nude women in even local newspapers for decades. We could all make a list of the coarseness of British media and culture. Therefore, spare me the uppity criticism of the drug commercials. Its simply lovely sport in Britain to criticize America.

I'd rather put up with the ridiculous obnoxiousness of American TV drug ads than have to wait two years for a knee replacement so the oh-so-offended Brits can take their beloved NHS and stick it up their................

The British like to be kept in the dark about what their doctors are prescribing. No questions allowed!

Imagine the time when lawyers were banned from advertising. I'd rather see cigarette commercials. At least they were entertaining.

Maybe it's just me but half the time I don't know what illness they're trying to cure. I have, however, seen drugs advertised for AIDS. That has shocked me more than the feminine hygiene products of old.

What's truly horrifying is how a single twitter thread of comments from some anonymous individuals can drive a narrative and generate such a stupid article. Had to laugh at this one, though: “If these medicine ads are what it’s like to not have an NHS I never want to experience that...”
All that being said, I understand that what sets American television apart from all of Europe is our plethora of pharmaceutical ads for every malady under the sun. There's even one that now claims to block HIV - the side-effect disclaimer at the end warns that it may not work for everyone as it has "not been tested on people assigned 'female' at birth." Unbelievable.

The human body has a remarkable ability to heal itself in most cases. I do think there is an over-the-top - tendency motivated by money to prescribe a chemical for even the most minor things that the body itself can resolve.

Meghan and Harry's publicist has paid to post their pictures on every public venue. Their publicist promoter has done a good job of buying up all the media space. But it will do no good, as these grifters have nothing to offer, and will get nothing for all the noise. They used Buckingham Palace to get attention. Next it will be Trump. That will always get them on socialist tv.

The worst one lately is the 'take care of your bottom'...I think the pharm companies run ads all the time so that they can get everyone on some king of prescription to keep their coffers full...

Is just shows the cultural difference that Meghan, an American b-list actress who had been through the mill of life, had to overcome as she naively pushed her way into the British Royal Family where she now claims that there was no soup for her. Just think if that stubborn family had rolled over to her, Meghan could have been the future Queen of England without even understanding the history of the family or the history and traditions of the British Monarchy.

Sadly, #1, so would the USA -- especially under the current reign of terror of not-my-president Lyin' Joe Biden!!!
A few of us "old timers" would be willing to fight. But all the snowflake young people would be cowering in their mommy's basements!!!!

I can honestly say that, in my 63 years on this Earth, I have never been "horrified" by a TV commercial.
Oh, there have been a few times I wanted to throw something at the TV -- normally when some Demon-Rat political commercial came on and I really didn't want to hear any more blatant lies.
Now, if Hilldebeast Clinton and Moochelle Ovomit were naked in a commercial, that would be pretty horrific!!! But that is about where I draw the line...
