As I grabbed some coffee before heading to the Capitol Building to watch the 46th President of the United States of America take his title, the lovely lady behind the counter told me she had never seen anything like this in D.C. in her life. And all I can say as I stand here now in the freezing cold with a handful of others is that I hope America never has to see anything like this again. Nothing is as it seems. It is just horrible, in every sense.

It’s an odd way to seek national unity: call a significant portion of the American public white supremacists, racists, and nativists. Welcome to the Biden presidency.
Joe Biden’s inaugural speech as 46th president is predictably being hailed for its “unifying” message. And just as predictably, his invocations of the divisive bromides of the identitarian Left are being swept under the rug.
According to Biden, we are a “great nation” and a “good people.” But we also oppress minorities with an ever-rising fervor. “Growing inequity” is among the greatest challenges facing the country, according to Biden, along with the “sting of systemic racism” and encroaching “white supremacy.”

Seattle — A group of people marching in Seattle Wednesday night vandalized buildings and caused property damage downtown. Seattle police have made at least two arrests—one for property damage and another for assault.
Seattle police tweeted photos of the damage and said multiple sites were vandalized, including the William Kenzo Nakamura Courthouse at 6th and Spring Street. The group started marching from Pioneer Square shortly after 4 p.m. At one point, members of the group lit an American flag on fire in the middle of an intersection. The fire was quickly put out.
The group was originally carrying a sign that said "Abolish ICE,"

• So, Joe Biden is now President. Can’t you just feel the excitement?
• No, seriously—has there been a new president in the last 70 years entering office with less enthusiasm than Slow Joe? I caught a YouGov poll today reporting that Joe Biden’s public approval rating is 52 percent—among the lowest for an incoming president since this polling question began decades ago. (Obama was at 69 percent on inauguration day.)
• Biden has one mandate—not to be Donald Trump. Biden won’t be able to settle for that. The good news for Republicans is that recent Democratic presidents invariably overreach, and provoke a backlash among swing voters.

Joe Biden was inaugurated as the 46th US president on Wednesday, after previously serving as the vice president during the Obama administration. Mr Biden, who served under Barack Obama between 2009 and 2017, is the first person in 32 years to be elected president after previously working as vice president. The last person to work in both roles was George H W Bush, who became president after serving as vice president under Ronald Reagan for eight years. In addition to Mr Biden and Bush, there have been 13 other US presidents who have gone on to serve as president since .

TORONTO — Canada won’t be getting any Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccines next week and 50% fewer than expected over the next month, officials said Tuesday, prompting the leader of Canada’s most populous province to ask U.S. President-elect Joe Biden to share a million doses from Pfizer’s Michigan plant. Donald Trump eschewed most of the traditional roles a president fills for the inauguration of his successor, except one: He left a letter for President Joe Biden.
White House spokesman Judd Deere confirmed Wednesday before Biden took the oath that Trump left a note for his successor. Presidents usually leave a note of congratulations and support behind in the Oval Office, but some had questioned whether Trump would do so given his hesitancy to even acknowledge Biden’s victory.
The White House did not release contents of Trump's note: "It’s a letter between 45 and 46," Deere said.
Later on Wednesday, Biden confirmed he received the letter, telling reporters

Donald Trump was, in my opinion, our best president since Ronald Reagan, rather easily. His achievements are impressive: the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, the biggest and most successful deregulatory effort ever, improved trade deals, record low unemployment, substantial wage growth for middle-class and working-class families for the first time in decades, encouraging development of oil and gas resources, pushing back against political correctness, critical race theory, and so on. And in the end, Operation Warp Speed, lowering regulatory barriers to accelerate development of covid vaccines in record time.

Many Americans will remember President Donald Trump’s presidency as a four-yearlong storm of tweets, rallies and on-air rants that ended in a mob riot and historic second impeachment. But there was more to the Trump presidency than attention-hogging political drama and conflict; often unnoticed, Trump and his administration actually did succeed in changing some of the ways Washington works.
From imposing a ban on Chinese-made drones to rolling back rules on sexual harassment, from cracking down on robocalls to letting states legalize marijuana, Trump changed some key areas of federal policy in ways that may have lasting impact well after he’s gone.

The first impression of President Joe Biden’s inauguration speech that Fox News viewers received on Wednesday was from anchor Chris Wallace, who uniformly praised it as “the best inaugural address” he has ever heard.

As America says goodbye to President Trump, Democrats are doing what they do best: pushing forward, to the very last moment, with their four-year crusade to discredit, smear, and punish one of history’s truly great presidents. Having never given Mr. Trump so much as a moment of respite from their relentless torrent of defamatory lies, they have firmly secured their place in history as the pettiest, most lawless tyrants ever to defile our nation’s political landscape. Thus, it remains for the many millions of Americans who, with sober hearts and minds, are able to discern the monumental good that this president has done for the United States.

In Homer’s epic Iliad, the Greek hero Achilles finally kills his hated archenemy, the often trash-talking Trojan warrior, Hector.
After Hector dies, once frightened but now gloating Greek soldiers encircle and cowardly stab his limp corpse.
Achilles even ties the ankles of the dead Hector to his chariot and in fits of mindless rage drags him around the walls of Troy.
Homer then brilliantly shows how Achilles’ vindictive excess ensures sympathy even for the once-braggart Hector. Eventually, the adolescent Achilles relents, grows up, allows Hector to be buried, and accepts the tragic nature of a common humanity.

The University of Central Florida is set to fire embattled Professor Charles Negy, accusing him of creating a “hostile” classroom environment, the Orlando Sentinel reported this week.
Negy became a target of intense Black Lives Matter protests over the summer after he tweeted: “Black privilege is real: Besides affirm. action, special scholarships and other set asides, being shielded from legitimate criticism is a privilege. But as a group, they’re missing out on much needed feedback.”
He has since deleted the tweet and a few others that caused controversy at the time, but a petition demanding he be fired had garnered nearly 35,000 signatures and protesters even targeted his home.

So much for the fierce urgency of now, at least as far as Andrew Cuomo’s concerned. Democrats fought for months with Republicans and kinda-sorta Donald Trump over the scope of COVID-19 relief. Now that they have nominal control over both chambers of Congress and the White House, and Joe Biden calling for “immediate action,” when can we expect it to happen? Apparently, “immediate” is a term of art. Punchbowl’s Jake Sherman reports that Democrats will have their proposal ready for Joe Biden by, um … March? Seriously?

Joe Biden paces as he dictates long portions of his speeches to aides, spinning out thoughts that quickly pile into six, seven or eight paragraphs of copy, only to later be scrapped.
On the 2020 campaign trail, he’d keep groups of supporters waiting inside while he’d hole up in a black car with aides, refining lines of his prepared remarks. Revisions go up to crunch time; it isn’t uncommon for a staffer to be scurrying to the teleprompter with a flash drive just before an event is to begin.
For higher-profile remarks, he’d obsessively rehearse portions until he committed them to memory

Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. became the 46th U.S. president on Wednesday, completing the most daunting power transfer in recent American history.

The Google-owned site suspended Trump's account for seven days after removing a video that the company said incited violence in the wake of the storming of the US Capitol, which left five people dead.
On Tuesday, the firm said it would extend the suspension "in light of concerns about the ongoing potential for violence" for at least another week as Washington braced for President-elect Biden's highly unusual inauguration, Reuters reported.

"Either the Constitution matters and must be followed . . . or it is simply a piece of parchment on display at the National Archives."— Texas v. Pennsylvania et al. Texas v. Pennsylvania et al. did not deny setting rules for the 2020 election contrary to the Constitution. On December 10, 2020, the Supreme Court discounted that. By refusing to interfere as America’s ruling oligarchy serves itself, the court archived what remained of the American republic’s system of equal justice. That much is clear. In 2021, the laws, customs, and habits of the heart that had defined the American republic since the 18th century are things of the past. Americans’ movements and interactions are under strictures for which no one ever voted. Two executives involved in the early call of Arizona for Joe Biden on Election Night, angering many conservatives, are no longer employed at the cable network whose ratings took a subsequent nosedive. Both have been lightning rods for conservatives since the election. The Associated Press reports:

Fox’s decision to call Arizona for Biden took the network’s anchors by surprise and infuriated the White House, which believed the determination was premature.

Somebody needs to explain to me why conservatives are so defeatist.
It never fails. A setback occurs, and rather than rolling their sleeves and getting to work, they collapse into bawling, whining puddles. They’re like a glass-jawed boxer who take a hit and goes down immediately. But instead of hauling themselves back to their feet and slugging away, they just lie there, sobbing, “It’s over… there’s no point… wave goodbye to Lady Liberty for me…”
There’s nothing new about this. During the Obama epoch it was eight years of, “Obama is eight feet tall. Obama can walk through walls. He can see you and you can’t see him…”
