As President Joe Biden was sworn into office, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) imposed sanctions on former Trump administration officials, including former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former national security adviser Robert O’Brien, in response to their tough-on-China policies. The announcement came a day after Pompeo declared the CCP’s repression of Uyghur Muslims in the Xinjiang region a “genocide.” The Chinese regime sanctioned 28 people on Jan. 20. A foreign ministry spokesperson accused them of “seriously violated China’s sovereignty,” adding that they were “responsible” for “a series of crazy moves” which “seriously disrupted China-U.S. relations.”

The Biden administration is off to a shaky start with the Republican-led State of Texas. Yesterday as President Biden stopped to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton wished the country well and included a warning. In a tweet, Paxton promised to see the Biden administration in court… frequently.
Paxton is upholding a Texas tradition. The current governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, was Texas Attorney General during the Obama administration and famously said of his job, “I go into the office, I sue the federal government and I go home.” Ken Paxton’s office has continued with lawsuits against Obama-era policies.

Here’s how it worked: State Attorneys General from left-leaning states would file lawsuits in friendly courts where left-leaning and judges would promptly issue injunctions that applied to everyone.

State Sen. Anthony Bouchard, a Republican, filed a statement of candidacy, according to Federal Election Commission records.
