Thousands of National Guardsmen descended on the Capitol and surrounding buildings after the riots at the Capitol earlier this month. They were there as a show of force and to discourage anyone who was thinking about a repeat performance during the inauguration. You probably remember seeing photos of guard members packed in various hallways and lobbies at the Capitol:(Snip)Something apparently changed today. The NY Times reports the Guard was kicked out of the Capitol and surrounding buildings and sent to sleep in a parking garage:
Two Guard soldiers, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that they had been given no explanation(Snip) they were without electrical power, heat

The Biden administration is off to a shaky start with the Republican-led State of Texas. Yesterday as President Biden stopped to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton wished the country well and included a warning. In a tweet, Paxton promised to see the Biden administration in court… frequently.
Paxton is upholding a Texas tradition. The current governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, was Texas Attorney General during the Obama administration and famously said of his job, “I go into the office, I sue the federal government and I go home.” Ken Paxton’s office has continued with lawsuits against Obama-era policies.

Joe Biden has been busy signing executive orders yesterday and today. During the Trump era, Democrats streamlined a process of blocking Trump’s executive orders through national injunctions. Here’s how it worked: State Attorneys General from left-leaning states would file lawsuits in friendly courts where left-leaning and judges would promptly issue injunctions that applied to everyone.
This started with an injunction shutting down Trump’s ban on entry for certain countries which became known as the “Muslim ban.” Trump revised that executive order but that too was met with a nationwide injunction. When Trump tried to limit funds going to “sanctuary cities” that was met with a nationwide injunction.

Scientists are reporting troubling signs that some recent mutations of the virus that causes COVID-19 may modestly curb the effectiveness of two current vaccines, although they stress that the shots still protect against the disease.
Researchers expressed concern Wednesday about the preliminary findings, in large part because they suggest that future mutations could undermine vaccines. (Snip
One way vaccines work is to prompt the immune system to make antibodies that block the virus from infecting cells. The Rockefeller researchers got blood samples from 20 people who had received either the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine and tested their antibodies against various virus mutations in the lab.
With some, the antibodies didn't work as

The squishes are almost childlike in their belief that if they only submit to the Establishment hard enough by offering gooey platitudes everything will work out fine for them, like a kid who keeps hoping that this time Santa’s really leaving a pony under the tree.
But some people on the right need to understand and accept that there’s no kraken, and others on the right need to understand and accept that there’s no pony. The Jeb! Over 325 academics and scientists in Australian universities and research institutes have been identified as alleged recruits of Beijing’s controversial overseas talent-recruitment programs.
The allegations raise questions over potential conflicts of interest, grant fraud, and Australian research funds inadvertently advancing the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) military technology.
Alex Joske of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI), wrote to the Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security claiming that despite 325 individuals being identified, as many as 600 could be connected to Beijing-backed partnerships.
(Snip)“Recruits are encouraged to transfer technology to China and commercialise it, including technologies with military and security applications,” Joske wrote in his parliamentary submission (pdf).

As President Joe Biden was sworn into office, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) imposed sanctions on former Trump administration officials, including former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former national security adviser Robert O’Brien, in response to their tough-on-China policies.
The announcement came a day after Pompeo declared the CCP’s repression of Uyghur Muslims in the Xinjiang region a “genocide.”
The Chinese regime sanctioned 28 people on Jan. 20. A foreign ministry spokesperson accused them of “seriously violated China’s sovereignty,” adding that they were “responsible” for “a series of crazy moves” which “seriously disrupted China-U.S. relations.”

A Wyoming legislator on Wednesday filed for the 2022 race for the congressional seat held by Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.).
State Sen. Anthony Bouchard, a Republican, filed a statement of candidacy, according to Federal Election Commission records.
Cheney drew widespread criticism for voting with Democrats and nine other Republicans last week to impeach then-President Donald Trump.
“Wyoming was President Trump’s best state both times he ran. That’s because Wyoming voters are strong conservatives who want our leaders to stand up for America, defend our freedoms, fight for our way of life and always put working people first as President Trump did,” Bouchard said in a statement Wednesday.
Comments:
They must be strong against China, which has intentionally fostered softness toward them among American lawmakers, business leaders and media. They have weaseled their way in. Per their plan called “The Hundred-Year Marathon” ..see Michael Pillsbury’s book by the same name.
