And on Monday, a guest virologist announced that 20% of Americans are going to die from the coronavirus, which is an embarrassing miscalculation.
It was just a few days ago that Brian Williams and Mara Gay mindlessly repeated a meme saying that, instead of spending $500 million on advertising, Bloomberg should just have given all 327 million Americans a million dollars each. The correct answer is that Bloomberg spent $1.52 per American.

The New England Journal of Medicine has published a paper about the first patient known in the U.S. to have contracted coronavirus. He suffered nausea, stomach problems, and pneumonia, but recovered almost completely.
The March 5 paper notes that the patient is a 35-year-old male near Seattle, Washington, who had traveled to visit relatives in Wuhan, China, and took himself to an urgent care clinic on Jan. 19 after suffering a fever and cough.

LOS ANGELES - Former Los Angeles City Councilman Mitchell Englander was arrested Monday on charges of lying to the FBI during a probe of his alleged acceptance of cash, female escort services, hotel rooms and meals from a businessman during trips to Las Vegas and Palm Springs.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Englander was named in a seven-county indictment in January and will be arraigned Monday afternoon in downtown Los Angeles.
Englander, 49, of Santa Monica, surrendered to FBI agents Monday morning. Englander is charged with one count of scheming to falsify material facts, three counts of making false statements and three counts of witness tampering.

The Illinois Supreme Court has rejected former “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett’s request to dismiss charges that accuse him of staging a racist, homophobic attack in Chicago against himself, The Daily Caller reports.
The court ruled Friday that Smollett can be charged with inventing a hate crime hoax. The actor also wanted the special prosecutor in his case removed but the court rejected that request too.
Smollett’s lawyers argued that Cook County Circuit Judge Michael Toomin overstepped his authority and misinterpreted the law when he ordered the appointment of a special prosecutor to assess Smollett’s actions.
The court offered no explanation for its decision to dismiss Smollett’s request.
