Dozens of people in Iran died after drinking industrial-strength alcohol amid rumors it would prevent them from contracting the coronavirus, according to reports Tuesday. The state-run Islamic Republic News Agency, or IRNA, reported Tuesday that 44 people had died from alcohol poisoning in the country after they "drank bootleg alcohol over rumors that it would be effective in treating coronavirus.” But the semi-independent Mehr News Agency reported a lower figure – at least 27 people dying in Iran from alcohol poisoning amid the coronavirus scare. Drinking, selling or buying alcohol has been outlawed in Iran for all citizens, except for some non-Muslim minorities, since the establishment of the Islmamic

I hope these are mostly people in the Iranian government. I feel for the rank and file citizens there. Very difficult to overthrow a government, especially when world powers use it as a proxy. Just like the unfortunate citizens of Venezuela.

Should have washed their hands with it, not drank it. Since there seem to be no reporters who ever took even a basic chemistry course, they are probably unaware that "alcohol" does not automatically mean ethyl alcohol. "Alcohol" is accurate for isopropyl alcohol (isopropanol), methyl alcohol (methanol) or ethyl alcohol. But, only ethyl alcohol (ethanol) is safe to drink, the other two are toxic. Lots of people have died due to this ignorance and lumping all alcohols into one group. Various poor folks have tried to use methanol or isopropanol from various products to drink, often with fatal results. Ignorance is bliss? Not always.

Oh, and even if the stuff was industrial ethanol, it has been common to intentionally poison it with an addition of toxic methanol to prevent theft. But, again, you gotta know what this is all about. Probably will prevent theft in the future.

Re #8. In 1951 in Atlanta a bootlegger named John 'Fat' Hardy ran short of ethyl alcohol and laced his next batch with methanol. 38 black people died and dozens were blinded or paralyzed. He was tried and found guilty and given life in prison. Another account says he was given the death penalty but was allegedly too fat to fit in the electric chair and got his sentence commutated to life. The lesson here is to make sure you know what you are drinking.

As I read paragraph one which mentions 'industrial strength alcohol', my cynical inner voice said "I wonder if those knuckleheads are drinking Methanol? I was truly surprised when I got to paragraph four, and it stated, sure enough, that they were drinking Methanol. A note to the article writer: Alcohol was used as an automotive antifreeze a long time ago, I think in the 1930's or so. By the time I started playing with cars in the early 1960's, antifreeze was all based on Ethylene Glycol.

A federal judge leveled harsh accusations against Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts and the rest of the conservative majority, claiming that they are “actively participating in undermining American democracy.” Judge Lynn Adelman of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin blasted the Roberts-led court in an article titled “The Roberts Court’s Assault on Democracy,” set to be published in the Harvard Law & Policy Review. “[T]he Roberts Court has been anything but passive,” wrote Adelman, who was appointed to the bench by President Bill Clinton. “Rather, the Court’s hard-right majority is actively participating in undermining American democracy. Normally, when an incumbent who is popular with his party is running unopposed in a primary — or when the opponents are fairly marginal figures most voters have forgotten actually exist — there's very low turnout for the incumbent. That was not the case with Donald Trump last week, on Super Tuesday. He had a blowout primary, with people turning out in unexpected droves to vote for him. Trump voters knew that their vote wouldn't matter in terms of Trump gaining the delegates for their state. They turned out to make a point: Trump's voters are wildly enthusiastic. They don't just talk the talk on social media;

And on Monday, a guest virologist announced that 20% of Americans are going to die from the coronavirus, which is an embarrassing miscalculation. It was just a few days ago that Brian Williams and Mara Gay mindlessly repeated a meme saying that, instead of spending $500 million on advertising, Bloomberg should just have given all 327 million Americans a million dollars each. The correct answer is that Bloomberg spent $1.52 per American.

The one-two punch of coronavirus and an escalating oil price war that is roiling world markets is hurting one country more than any other: Iran. Europe, which has accepted vast numbers of the migrants, has become an epicenter of Islamic terrorism replete with alarming levels of migrant crime, including Muslim sex slave gangs and sharia-controlled "no-go" zones. Saul Alinsky may have written his Rules for Radicals to give leftists an advantage in the battle for America's soul, but that doesn't mean that the rules aren't tactically wise. For those who seek to panic the public into handing control of all economic activity to the state, the prospect of rising sea levels inundating coastal cities has been the most useful tool. By propagating the theory that your SUV, air-conditioning, and jet travel will drown New York and Miami, and submerge Pacific islands out of existence, the warmists plan to extract trillions of dollars from advanced economies and distribute them to cronies making solar cells, electric cars, windmills, and other expensive substitutes, and to the rulers of third-world countries alleged to be devastated (with "administrative costs" sticking to the fingers of the bureaucrats, of course).
