Richmond, Va.—Some of Virginia’s scores of Confederate monuments could soon be removed under legislation state lawmakers approved Sunday. The Democratic-led House and Senate passed measures that would undo an existing state law that protects the monuments and instead let local governments decide their fate. The bill’s passage marks the latest turn in Virginia’s long-running debate over how its history should be told in public spaces.(Snip) Virginia, a state that prides itself on its pivotal role in America’s early history, is home to more than 220 public memorials to the Confederacy, according to state officials. Among those are some of the nation’s most prominent

I have a question for those who want to tear down Confederate monuments. The question is, should a structure named for a rabidly pro slavery Confederate general who after the war became a grand dragon of the Ku Klux Klan be allowed to remain standing? I'd be most interested in hearing the answer from black people because the structure in question is the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma.

Last weekend I was watching an old tv program about Mt. Rushmore wondering how much longer will that monument will survive before it is blown up.

looks like the 400,000 AMERICAN patriots from Virginia, that AREN'T planning
on having their guns confiscated, should be showing up in front
of these monuments..

Again, Democrats screw up EVERYTHING they lay hands on. That they manage to get voted into positions of power is an indictment of our educational system, that Democrats put their hands all over. NEVER, EVER vote for a Democrat, not even for street sweeper.

I'm okay with all of the confederate monuments being torn down, as it's relatively old history, and not very kind history to many of today's America.
However, I doubt most people, due to today's dismal education, know any of the people depicted on the monuments.
The Democrats simply want a distraction, and gin-up what's a very small group, so they can point to them as an example of how racist America still is, and to then blame the Republican party at the same time.

Having driven all over Virginia, I think most monuments will be left alone simply because there are so many, one would have to know Civil War history to find many of them. Socialists/liberals have no interest in real history, so they'll never find them. Besides, the entire state of Virginia is a Civil War site. One can throw a rock in any direction in Virginia, and it would land in a battlefield.

This is why one-party rule is always a bad thing. There's no discussion, no compromise. Brain-dead-dead-dead Republicans in NYState allowed this to happen and now the certifiable crazies are in charge. Virginia is not far behind.

Pretty ironic that this is the issue the Democrats are using to keep blacks on their plantation.

If these monuments were erected long after the Civil War as 'in your face' homages to the 'good old days' of slavery, then take them down.

There are a number of cemeteries in the country that contain the burial sites of veterans of the Civil War. Many of the graves have indications that the veterans fought for either the North or the South. Should all of the tombstones of the Southern veterans be destroyed? What about the remains in the graves? What do we do with the evil Confederate bones? I'm just looking at the logical extension of this idiocy.

Whats the difference between this and the Taliban blowing up non-moslem historical artifacts? None.
The patriots in Virginia tried to do things the right way. They tried to be nice. Looks like its time for not nice.

The next election in VA should be interesting. I’m hoping there’s enough outrage left in the state to get rid of every single demonrat in Richmond.
BTW, how many blacks have been helped one iota by the removal of those statues? Are they happier, safer, more financially well off because of this? Black on black murder rates have skyrocketed. Why? I thought removing the statues was supposed to lead to peace and prosperity for the black community.

Not sure what upsets me more, VA legislature's move or #7.
What good does it serve to remove historical statues ? They aren't just histor,y but many of us are related to the men on those statues. If they want to get picky, I want all of the MLK statues down. He was a whore monger and liar. Women everywhere should be offended.
The real bottom line here is "People do what you let them" What will they want next time ? Your home? Land?
