Unlike Eric Holder’s Justice Department, the Trump administration is on the forefront of defending First Amendment religious liberty. This Tuesday, Justice Department Civil Rights Division lawyers will be appearing in an Indiana state court to defend the religious freedom of Catholic schools. Assistant Attorney General Eric Dreiband's team will personally appear to defend the Archdiocese of Indianapolis against an employment discrimination lawsuit brought by a teacher who was fired for openly flouting Catholic Church teaching on marriage. Joshua Payne-Elliott, the former teacher at Cathedral High School and plaintiff, is suing because he was terminated from his employment as a high school teacher after openly defying church teaching on marriage

Joe Biden just weighed in on California’s AB5, the job-killing law that went into effect in January and basically killed countless gig-worker jobs all over the state including such jobs as Uber drivers, entertainers, freelance writers and the like. Biden has come out in favor of the law which millions have been fighting. This is a concern not just to California but across the country because the House passed the Protecting the Right to Organize Act, the PRO Act which has language taken from AB5, so if Biden becomes president and a president like Trump isn’t there to block it, it may become law and put millions more out of work.

Roberts has had enough of the game playing and is now moving to have Hunter Biden held in contempt for failing to comply with mandatory requirement to provide documents.

Saudi Arabia has detained three senior Saudi princes including Prince Ahmed bin Abdulaziz, the younger brother of King Salman, and Prince Mohammed bin Nayef, the king's nephew, for allegedly planning a coup, sources with knowledge of the matter said.  Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, King Salman's son and de facto ruler of the country, the world's top oil exporter and a key U.S. ally, has moved to consolidate power since ousting Mohammed bin Nayef as heir to the throne in a 2017 palace coup. Later that year, he arrested several royals and other prominent Saudis, holding them for months at Riyadh's Ritz-Carlton hotel in an anti-corruption campaign that caused shockwaves at home and abroad.

California Democrats’ infamous ‘gig’ law, AB 5, took effect at the beginning of this year, and now thousands of entrepreneurs, including many with disabilities, are now left fighting for their livelihoods. Thanks to their handiwork, it is now more difficult, if not nearly impossible, to work as an independent contractor in the state.AB 5 isn’t just about gig workers utilizing work platforms like Uber and Lyft. It’s much broader—and much more dangerous. Workers, entrepreneurs, and job creators in hundreds of occupations—including community theaters, event planning, marketing, and public relations, freelance writing, health care, and many more—have been negatively impacted, losing their careers and much-needed flexibility.

Now that the politics have settled, it’s the right time to return to impeachment, examine it, and learn why it failed. It was only the third such trial in our history. In one of its final reports, the New York Times, while calling the acquittal of Trump a “resounding victory” for the president, added, “both sides agreed that the final judgment on Mr. Trump will be rendered by voters when they cast ballots in just nine months.” Conventional wisdom holds that Senate Republicans were predetermined to acquit Trump of any charges. While there’s a hint of truth to this conventional wisdom, it’s not the entire story. Impeachments,  Staff note. *

This much-anticipated document is exactly what it sounds like: a thorough analysis of taxpayers’ incomes and payments to the IRS, this time for 2018. Each year, these numbers are illuminating for a number of reasons. For one thing, they show the progression of tax payments over time. For example, revenues have continued to rise since the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act lowered income tax rates for everyone. And the number of filers taking the mortgage interest deduction plummeted from 33 million in 2017 to just 13 million in 2018, as more taxpayers took advantage

After a week of covering the Wuhan coronavirus as both as a pundit and a biosafety professional, I have come to the conclusion that maybe it is time to dial back the drama associated with the pathogen. Let’s begin by starting with some perspective. The current flu season has hit 32 million Americans, resulting in 18,000 deaths, and the vaccine that was selected for the flu season was limited in its effectiveness. Yet, we are not doing a daily flu death countdown. Understandably, COVID-19 is a new pathogen. However, American bioscientists and medical professionals have focused on it with impressive intensity. A potential political bloodbath at this summer’s Democratic presidential convention, along with Bernie Sanders supporters’ “establishment versus Bernie” campaign motif, shouldn’t surprise anyone who remembers 1968. Back then, like today, the Democrats faced a showdown between their left and center wings—and that confrontation led to violence in Chicago, site of the Democratic Convention, where anti-Vietnam War protestors fought with police in the streets. Inside the convention hall, New Left activists focused their ire not on Republican candidate Richard Nixon but on Vice President Hubert Humphrey, the eventual Democratic nominee. Ironically, Bernie Sanders is old enough to have been part of that movement. Today, he inspires a movement that echoes it.

Now that the once-sprawling field of Democrats seeking the presidency has become a two-man race, many in the party are breathing a sigh of relief. All the more so because Joe Biden is the clear front-runner and the dreaded Bernie Sanders looks to be fading. So it’s all set. Biden will be the nominee and give the party a solid chance of scoring a November trifecta: beating President Trump, taking the Senate and holding the House. Count me as skeptical. Instead of a smooth ride, it’s more likely that the Dems’ desperate search for a Trump slayer will hit more turbulence and an alternative to Biden still could be necessary.
