Harvey Weinstein’s bail was increased from $1 million to $5 million on Wednesday over allegations he violated bail conditions by mishandling his electronic ankle monitor.
But Judge James Burke rejected prosecution calls to put the disgraced movie mogul in jail over the alleged violation.
Weinstein, 67, arrived at court in the morning using a walker, and his lawyer said he will be undergoing back surgery on Thursday. In his last court appearance, he hobbled into court and looked more pained than usual.

What an incredible week so far, and Wednesday is only just beginning. Monday saw the release of the Horowitz report that completely demolished the Steele dossier and the upper echelon of the FBI. Having done that, it left the entire Russian hoax in smoking ruins. Then, Tuesday morning, we saw laughably grim-faced Pelosi and Nadler announce the articles of impeachment they hope to bring against the president. Police in New Jersey say a Jewish supermarket was the target of a gun attack which left six people dead on Tuesday, including the two suspects.

The United States is imposing new sanctions on Iran's largest shipping company and airline for helping the Islamic Republic develop ballistic missiles, announced Secretary of State Mike Pompeo at a State Department briefing on Wednesday.
The sanctions will impact the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) and it's China-based subsidiary, E-Sail Shipping, and Mahan Air. These companies helped Iran with its weapons of mass destruction (WMD) programs. A New Jersey police officer, three bystanders, and two suspects were killed in an extended firefight in Jersey City on Tuesday. Shots broke out around 12:30 p.m. outside a kosher market at Wilkinson Avenue and Martin Luther King Drive; the police officer was killed about a mile and a half to the south, near Bay View Cemetery.
According to the New York Times, the shooting began “when an officer approached one of the gunmen in connection with an investigation of an earlier homicide and was shot dead.” The gunmen fled in a truck and hid in the kosher market where the shootout took place.

That news is not that the Democrats and the labor unions have reached a deal with President Trump about the U.S.–Mexico–Canada Agreement that is to succeed it, although they have. The good news is that NAFTA will continue much as before if, as looks likely, the USMCA goes through.

TIME magazine will name the anonymous federal employee whose whistleblower report set off President Donald Trump’s impending impeachment its 2019 Person of the Year, the Washington Free Beacon has learned.
The whistleblower himself never emerged publicly to tell his story, and the publication will also honor the civil servants who came forward to testify before Congress about the events described in his report.
That report centered on a July 25 phone call between Trump and Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky. It charged that Trump used "the power of his office to solicit interference from a foreign country in the 2020 U.S. election."

Financial writers of his obituary insist that his policies beat inflation in the 1980s. They did no such thing.
