The conversation was friendly and wide-ranging. There was discussion of how much the U.S. is helping Ukraine: Trump: I will say that we do a lot for Ukraine. We spend a lot of effort and a lot of time. Much more than the European countries are doing and they should be helping you more than they are. This past week, the U.S. Navy confirmed that several videos—two of which were first released by The New York Times in 2017 depicting so-called “Unidentified Aerial Phenomena" (UAP)—are authentic. The three videos, (another was later published by The Washington Post), each depicting quick-moving oblong-shaped objects, were shot by Navy pilots during training exercises in 2004 and 2015. The Navy has yet to identify the objects in the video, and along with the Department of Defense, said the videos should have never been made public.

"This has nothing to do with politics or partisanship.” That was how House Speaker Nancy Pelosi put it shortly before announcing the opening of an official impeachment investigation into President Donald Trump. Who is she trying to kid? Despite the breathless commentary about Trump’s phone call with the Ukrainian president and a whistleblower report based on second-hand accounts of uncertain credibility, we know little about what transpired, much less whether it rises to the level of an impeachable offense. Democrats could have gone through the normal procedures to get the information from the White House rather than jump immediately to talk of impeachment.

I won’t say that impeachment is back in the news, because the removal of the President never left and has been a headline grabber since before Trump took the oath. (snip) For all of Pelosi’s supposed political acumen, her hand was forced by the progressive rabble-rousers. This makes for a dramatic coup de théâtre, but it’s still only that: theater. Pelosi lost face, yes. But the humiliation will be downplayed by her media backers, who treat statecraft like so many three-act plays. And we already know the coming ending. The Washington wisdom behind Trump’s impeachment makes sense until you venture three feet outside I-495.

There are two possible scandals in the Trump-Ukraine-Biden phone call saga, but we're unlikely to get evidence of a smoking gun on either of them. These scandals being; first and foremost, whether Trump withheld nearly $400 million in military aid in order to pressure Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky into investigating the business dealings of Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden. (There is a strong and I'd add reasonable presumption that such an investigation might damage Joe Biden's 2020 presidential bid.) The second possible scandal is whether as vice president, Joe Biden illegitimately pressured Ukraine to fire its top prosecutor in order to prevent him from pursuing evidence of wrongdoing by Hunter Biden.

The Metropolitan Opera announced Tuesday that Placido Domingo had agreed to withdraw from his slate of scheduled performances at the opera house following allegations of sexual harassment made by multiple women in two Associated Press stories. The opera legend, who has disputed the allegations, indicated that he would never again perform at the Met. Domingo had been scheduled to sing the title role in the season premiere of Verdi's "Macbeth" on Wednesday night, which would have been his first performance in the United States since the AP reported that numerous women had accused him of inappropriate behavior, including one soprano who said he grabbed her bare breast.

Monday was the culmination of a year’s worth of programmatic, propagandistic proselytization, as a 16-year-old Swedish child with a developmental disability took to a podium at the United Nations to harangue and insult the leaders of the free world over the supposed “mass extinction” that is coming as a result of global warming. Sorry. “Climate change,” as though that is somehow a tragic event; never mind the fact that the climate changes four times per year in something we call “seasons.” The 16-year-old, whose name is Greta Thunberg, suffers from Asperger Syndrome, a condition on the autism spectrum.

Who runs Britain? When Boris Johnson’s lawyers made their case in front of the Supreme Court this week, defending his right to prorogue parliament, they in effect brought it back to this simple question. This was a controversy for politicians to settle, not courts. Judges, they said, should think twice about ‘entering the political arena’ and unsettling the UK’s ‘careful constitutional and political balance’. He may be the first prime minister to frame the matter so starkly, but no previous prime minister has had to. This is about far more than Brexit. Britain is witnessing political litigation on a hitherto unseen scale. We have a government

By announcing that the impeachment inquiry is now “official,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi gave the nation (or at least the national media) loads of drama Tuesday evening — but without actually doing anything. House Judiciary chief Jerry Nadler has already been calling his committee’s work an “official” impeachment inquiry, after all; now the speaker says the same. But she’s still not allowing any actual votes on the House floor about it. All she’s “done” is instruct six committee chairmen, including Nadler, to pull together all the dirt they’ve got. That’s apparently to go to Judiciary, which then might eventually vote

Hillary Clinton on Tuesday joined the rising chorus of Democrats calling for at least an impeachment investigation into President Donald Trump following reports that Trump pressured Ukraine’s government to look into unsubstantiated theories about the family of his leading 2020 challenger, former Vice President Joe Biden. Clinton, a sharp critic of Trump since narrowly losing to him in the 2016 presidential election, made the impassioned call during an exclusive interview with PEOPLE set to be published in next week’s issue. “We are in a crisis,” Clinton said.

Invoking the "darkest days of the American Revolution," Pelosi called on lawmakers to honor their constitutional oath to protect the country "from all enemies, foreign and domestic." Former White House senior advisor Karl Rove criticized Democrats Tuesday for pursuing impeachment, saying it'll only hurt them. "The Democrats have put themselves in a place... This is going to hurt Joe Biden badly because we're going to be talking about Ukraine and the idea of Hunter Biden being hired by a Moscow leaning oligarch in order to demonstrate that he had juice with the United States," Rove said Tuesday night on "Hannity." House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced on Tuesday the formalization of an impeachment inquiry and specifically charged that the Trump administration had violated the law by not turning over a whistleblower complaint concerning Trump's July call with Ukrainian President

But she told Democrats Tuesday that the allegations leaked
