smoking gun in Trump-Ukraine saga

There are two possible scandals in the Trump-Ukraine-Biden phone call saga, but we're unlikely to get evidence of a smoking gun on either of them.
These scandals being; first and foremost, whether Trump withheld nearly $400 million in military aid in order to pressure Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky into investigating the business dealings of Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden. (There is a strong and I'd add reasonable presumption that such an investigation might damage Joe Biden's 2020 presidential bid.) The second possible scandal is whether as vice president, Joe Biden illegitimately pressured Ukraine to fire its top prosecutor in order to prevent him from pursuing evidence of wrongdoing by Hunter Biden.

This is a strange can of worms for the Democrats to open unless one of their motives is to take down Biden. Biden is on video bragging about forcing the Ukraine to fire a prosecutor by withholding foreign aid. What was the US interest in a corrupt foreign prosecutor if it wasn’t Biden’s son? It has also now been exposed that 3 Democrat Senators sent a letter to the Ukranian President in May of 2018 asking him to investigate Trump. And this is the hill the Democrats choose to die on? What am I missing?

Pelosi withholds funds from wayward Congressional members all the time to extract political favors. Why not impeacher her?

Some think that this isn't about impeachment at all; rather, it's about getting Congress access to the Meuller grand jury documents so they can go through that and find something on Trump.

As the Democrats and Hillary were the ones who actually conspired with the Russians to turn the Presidential election, not Trump, the Democrats are accusing of doing what they did. Joe Biden bragged about using his office as VP to extort the firing of Ukrainian prosecutor to stop an investigation involving his son. Now the Democrats are accusing Trump of doing this in a telephone conversation with the Ukrainian president.

The Dems are throwing everything -- including the kitchen sink -- at Mr. Trump as a last-ditch effort to oust him from the White House. I do not believe they think they can win the White House through an election. And I think they are afraid they will lose the House of Representatives and not gain the Senate. Rather than offer better policies and ideas, they want to pursue socialist/communist ones that most Americans will reject.

As we have seen in he last three years or so, facts, evidence, logic & ethics has absolutely nothing to do with it. Dollars to cents there will be NO smoking gun. But.. the MSM will twist t as such. Ultimate judges in such a case should be the voters/ Whose turn is coming...

I was thinking today that this stink bomb of 'whistleblower' was tossed in by none other than the 'got milk' man John Bolten because of his firing. This Ukraine business is a weird turn of events it certainly is a two pointed spear.

Could this all be a setup by team Trump? Leak secondhand information to a 'whistleblower' who blows this up into a huge issue that will ultimately destroy Biden's candidacy?

I am SO sick of all of this! Nearly three years of it with no letup. I hope and pray that we can wrest control of the House from the Commucrats and increase our hold on the Senate...with actual conservatives... and that we then grind these traitors into dust.

The Democrats do not care about a smoking gun. The Democrats will soon hold a vote that allows them to subpoena everything Trump and will destroy his presidency. That is the goal. Democrats know they do not control the Senate.

# 9, but why would the Trump team want to take out Biden now? Many of us are confident he would self-destruct spectacularly, hopefully after getting the nomination, and everyone it seems doubts his energy level is up to a slugfest with He Who Never Sleeps!
That tells me it was either Warren and/or Hillary, or a free-lancer who thought they were going to blow up Trump, but didn't have enough info to realize the real effect it would have.
Either way, this maneuver can also be seen as a pre-declassification hostage-taking that went wrong. Perhaps Schiff was supposed to hold it as leverage over Trump and the DOJ, but his impulsive need to be in the limelight got the better of him!

If you can't beat him, impeach him. It's that simple. The sleazy Dems see Trump's success (economy, low unemployment, stock market, etc.) then look at the bunch of socialist lunatics running against him and know they can't win next year. One of the idiot House Dems even said so awhile back....."if we don't impeach him, he'll get re-elected". There it is. Disgusting.

Impeachment is inherently political - less about crime and more about power. This will go nowhere. It's the Mueller investigation Part Deux.

The top law enforcement officer in the USA, is the sitting President of the United States.
He has the right to initiate and oversee any legal investigation, even those of special prosecutors (no matter what Congress thinks or says.)
In the case of the alleged criminal corrupt behavior of a previous vice-president, it is up to the current president to decide whether to investigate or prosecute that person. He has the final say. Judge Napolitano is full of beans (as usual when discussing Trump) when he says it is a contribution by Ukraine to the Trump re-election.
APPARENTLY, some people in Ukraine put Biden's son on the board of some company that would make him rich. When the company went belly up and Biden's son was facing an investigation, APPARENTLY the then vice-president Biden threatened Ukraine unless they let his kid off, which they did.
So the top law enforcer asked Ukraine to look into the details of this apparent crime. Since the media are the first line of defense for Democratic sleazebags (but I repeat myself), they are gunning for the lawman, not the criminal.
And as for Napolitano, he has no integrity or shame, as far as I have been able to see. Why he is still treated as some sort of authority is unfathomable to me, with the string of wacky pronouncements he has made in the last several years.
