Putting American flags on police cars sparks backlash in Laguna Beach

A decision to affix an American flag graphic to the side of freshly painted Laguna Beach police cars is dividing residents who are alternately praising the image as patriotic or panning it as too aggressive. After hearing the criticism and acknowledging that the image they approved didn’t quite match the final results, officials agreed to reconsider their February decision to paint the Laguna Beach Police Department’s fleet of 11 squad cars.

When I last looked Laguna Beach - like the rest of us - was in the United States of America. That is OUR flag. How dare anyone succeed with a backlash against displaying it publicly wherever we decide to put it.

People need to get outraged at decisions that are really far-reaching. I don´t see how this harms anyone.

Lesson 1 from the LA Times in how to create a "controversy" where none exists. Find a couple of America hating liberal freaks. Ask their opinion. Write a story. Meanwhile, 99.99% of the residents either support the flag or don´t care.

Look at the photo. Although the colors and some of the elements are there, it is a reach to say that is the American flag.

#6 Orange County has been gone for a long while. The Central Valley and northeastern part of the state are the conservative zones. We left O.C. 30 years ago and never looked back. This is exactly the reason for the push for the State of Jefferson.

The only people who could consider an American flag on a patrol car to be "too aggressive" are the ones who don´t want to be reminded that they are in a place that is under U.S. jurisdiction.

dont like the American Flag on our patrol cars, call the Gestapo when you need help.
I am so tired of these nut jobs. I truly wish there was a data base with the names of people who do not support our law enforcers. Why should the police waste their time and the time of those that support them, helping non supporters. (and please dont lecture me on how this is America and we cant do that. Its about time we stand up and be heard. Personally, I would make the decal big enough to see from outer space!)

Cubafornia needs to just go ahead and secede!!! They hate the United States and everything it stands for!!!!

Even with it´s endless resources, socialism will destroy the independent country of Cubafornia in a few months, and Mexico will be happy to swoop in and take over. The coast will then be a nice place for cruise ships to dock, but that is about it.

I feel really sorry for all the good conservatives that still manage to survive in Cubafornia. It must be hell living with a government that hates you and doesn´t represent anything you stand for!!!!!

We should trade all of the looney lie-berals in Texas (who probably feel exactly the same way) for all the good conservatives in Cubafornia. Win/Win!!!!!!

This is not an image of an American flag, the hints of the flag are there as graphic elements, basically a patriotic nod to the flag, no more.

California is filled with anti-Americans. I wish they would just leave the country.

The US economy contracted for a second consecutive quarter, intensifying concerns that elevated inflation and waning demand could drag the country into a new recession. The economy's gross domestic product shrank at an annualized rate of 0.9% through the three-month period that ended in June, the Commerce Department announced Thursday in a preliminary estimate. Economists surveyed by Bloomberg expected growth to hit a 0.5% pace. The print reveals the economy continued to shrink after the 1.6% contraction observed in the first quarter.

The University of Northampton in Orwell's own England has issued a trigger warning on the book, with staff claiming that the book contains "explicit material" and that some student may find the work to be "offensive and unsettling." The Daily Mail uncovered this via a Freedom of Information request, and 1984 is one of several books that have been slapped with a trigger warning for students at the university who are studying what's called Identity Under Construction.
