The US economy shrank in the second quarter
as sky-high inflation amplified recession fears

The US economy contracted for a second consecutive quarter, intensifying concerns that elevated inflation and waning demand could drag the country into a new recession. The economy's gross domestic product shrank at an annualized rate of 0.9% through the three-month period that ended in June, the Commerce Department announced Thursday in a preliminary estimate. Economists surveyed by Bloomberg expected growth to hit a 0.5% pace. The print reveals the economy continued to shrink after the 1.6% contraction observed in the first quarter.

And guess what? The Let's Go Brandon administration will change the calculus for economic growth for the 3rd quarter and viola! We will have the most robust economic turn around in the history of mankind. Oh sure prices will be through the roof, selves will be empty and jobs scarce. But Let's Go Brandon and the Democrats will have a great economic picture to sell (like a Hunter Biden masterpiece) right before the Midterms.

The second quarter of negative growth "could lead to a recession"? I would think a publication with that name would know the definition of a recession. Just sayin.

Two consecutive quarters with negative economic growth equals recession. Biteme and the demosluts don't see it that way. The socialists see endless negative economic growth as progress.

Actually the dems changed the definition of "inflation". If it was what it was years ago we would actually be at about 17-19%.

Now hear this: You cannot solve "inflation" without a recession. Ask anyone around during the Nixon-Ford-Carter-Reagan years how that works. Inflation is very painful to cure. Politicians hate pain. They prefer to stimulate the economy with "infrastructure" or "sustainable energy" schemes. And leads to long-term disaster. Reagan almost lost his office when he and Paul Volcker finally wrestled inflation to the mat. Look it up.

"Bloomberg economist experts expectations/estimates/projections off by more than -150%"...yet even they were closer than Bidens team which claims the economy is BOOMING!(women and minorities effected most) Every month, every quarter, expectations are missed...badly...and later revised downward even more. During Trump? Every month, every quarter, "experts Expectations" were exceeded, often greatly...then later revised upward even more.(women and minorities effected most)

Good point, Poster 8. And an unknown factor, at least for me, is whether the government inflation numbers account for reduced package sizes, so called shrinkflation.

Sen. Susan Collins said Tuesday she would vote to confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court, the only Republican senator to do so so far. Collins, in an interview with The New York Times Tuesday, said that after a second, 90-minute interview with Jackson, she was assured that Jackson met her standards for serving on the nation’s highest court. If all Democrats also vote yes, Jackson would become the first Black woman on the court, fulfilling a promise made by Pres. Biden to nominate a Black woman to the court.

George Orwell's iconic novel 1984, written in 1949 about the horrors of censorship and the threat of authoritarianism, is being censored by a university. The University of Northampton in Orwell's own England has issued a trigger warning on the book, with staff claiming that the book contains "explicit material" and that some student may find the work to be "offensive and unsettling." The Daily Mail uncovered this via a Freedom of Information request, and 1984 is one of several books that have been slapped with a trigger warning for students at the university who are studying what's called Identity Under Construction.

Rob Reiner has made many wild and unsubstantiated claims on Twitter. On Friday, he managed to top himself by declaring that Joe Biden is the best president in nearly 60 years. The result has been widespread ridicule, with the term “Meathead” trending on Twitter late Friday. (“Meathead” refers to the dim-witted character Reiner played on the sitcom All in the Family). Reiner, who was one of Biden’s biggest Hollywood fundraisers during the 2020 election, trumpeted his opinion while acknowledging that it goes against the prevailing popular sentiment. As Breitbart News reported, a recent Yahoo News/YouGov survey found that just one in five Americans want Biden to run for reelection in 2024.

'I've got no symptoms but I am going to isolate for the safety of everyone around me. 'I'm still at work, and will be back on the road soon.' There is perhaps no better example of a privileged, leftist elitist than the Duke of Sussex: aka Britain’s Prince Harry. Add to the equation Harry’s apparently unavoidable penchant for condescension and pompousness, along with his complete betrayal of his family, and the prince

The people who really run the United States of America have made it clear that they can’t, and won’t, if they can help it, allow Donald Trump to be president again. In fact, they made this clear in 2020, in a series of public statements. Simply for quoting their words in an essay for The American Mind, I was mercilessly mocked and attacked. But they were quite clear. Trump won’t be president at noon, Jan. 20, 2021, even if we have to use the military to drag him out of there. “Anti-Trump hysteria is in the final analysis not about Trump.” If the regime felt that strongly back then,

New York—As the monkeypox outbreak shows no sign of slowing in New York, Gov. Kathy Hochul declared a state disaster emergency on Friday. Hochul said this will allow the state to respond promptly and strengthen the ongoing efforts to confront monkeypox, as nearly 1,400 cases were reported in New York on Friday. Nearly 1,300 of those cases are in New York City. The executive order allows who is eligible to administer the vaccines, which includes EMS personnel, pharmacists and midwives. It lets physicians and nurse practitioners issue non-patient-specific standing orders for vaccines.(Snip)More than one in four cases nationwide are in New York State

I have no idea where the video came from, but I think it’s worth noting because it seems to show that the Democrat party has so successfully racialized America in the last 15 years or so that we are beginning to live out Charles Manson’s “Helter Skelter” madness. Manson’s dream was to destroy society, so it’s up to us to recognize what’s going on and fight back against this almost apocalyptic racial division. The video is a simple one: Someone inside a busy urban venue (it seems like a coffee shop) is filming a brutal beatdown on the street outside. Two young Black men are attacking an older White man.

Hershey Co (HSY.N)said on Thursday it would fall short of meeting demand for the all-important Halloween and Christmas holiday seasons this year, blaming a scarcity of raw ingredients and difficulties in securing suppliers. Pandemic-induced global supply chain disruptions and the Russia-Ukraine war have crunched supplies of cocoa, edible oil and other food ingredients, pinching production lines of packaged food companies around the world. Hershey Chief Executive Officer Michele Buck said those issues, along with the company's focus on meeting demand during non-holiday periods, would lead to a likely shortage during Halloween, but added that sales will still top last year.

The U.S. government has reached a new deal with Moderna for 65 million additional COVID-19 vaccine doses, the Biden administration announced on July 29. The deal is valued at $1.7 billion. Moderna will sell doses of its vaccine that target Omicron subvariants, according to the agencies that announced the agreement. The actual contract has not yet been made public. Moderna and other vaccine makers have been updating their COVID-19 vaccine formulations because the vaccines are based on the Wuhan strain, which has not been prevalent since 2020. The vaccines have proven increasingly worse at protecting recipients as newer variants emerge.
