A few weeks ago, Iran had lost every battle but was winning the war. The regime had survived, even though its putative leader and probably his son and many others had not.
That’s because the Iranian regime was still raking in billions in the oil market, Moreover, they were disrupting the oil market for the rest of the world.
That disruption benefited the regime doubly. It garnered a higher price for their oil, and it incentivized the world to push for America to back off. Dependably venal and dependably short-term in its outlook and dependably anti-American, the world did as instructed.

Last week the DOJ indicted Mexican Governor Ruben Rocha Moya along with nine current and former Mexican officials for participating “in a corrupt and violent drug trafficking conspiracy with the Cartel to import massive amounts of fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine from Mexico into the United States.” {GO DEEP} This has put Mexican Governor Claudia Sheinbaum in a precarious position.
Both President Sheinbaum and Governor Rocha Moya are from the Moreno political party in Mexico. Following the indictment, Sheinbaum said she would not assist in any extradition effort of Governor Rocha and denounced the U.S. indictment; however, she said the federal government within Mexico would launch their own independent investigation.

Spirit Airlines has ceased operations.
Now you may not care because you didn't fly Spirit, and have heard a lot of bad things about the airline, or more specifically, the behavior of its customers, but you should. Thousands of people are going to lose their jobs, and ticket prices on all airlines are going to skyrocket.
My wife and I were regular flyers on Spirit, and we actually found that it was not only much cheaper than the alternatives, but a better flying experience as well. We didn't mind the "pick what services you want" model of pricing, which so many complained about, because the pricing

The Supreme Court's bombshell ruling striking down racial gerrymandering under the Voting Rights Act sent shockwaves through the political landscape this week — and Southern Republican governors wasted no time acting on it. For Democrats, who have spent years leaning on race-based district engineering to protect their congressional seats, the timing couldn't be worse.
Alabama and Tennessee both called special legislative sessions on Friday to redraw their congressional maps, and the dominoes are already starting to fall across the South.

We were originally referred to as "baby boomers," the generation born in the immediate aftermath of World War II. From 1946 to 1964, the U.S. Census Bureau tells us that more than 76 million babies were born.
Why 1964 as a cutoff point? That's the year that the birth control pill was introduced in the U.S., and the birth rate began to decline.
Today, we're simply referred to as "Boomers." We grew up in a period of massive wealth creation, painful social change, and the specter of nuclear annihilation hanging over our heads. All of that impacted our worldview and led to a mixed record of accomplishments

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Communist and socialist groups called for a "revolution" at a May Day rally in Minneapolis Friday, highlighting the growing influence of far-left organizations at an event traditionally centered on workers’ rights. A large Roman Catholic diocese pushed back at criticism Friday after Pope Leo XIV appointed a former illegal immigrant as a bishop amid heightened tensions between the Vatican and Washington over refugees and ICE enforcement.
Leo nominated Bishop Evelio Menjivar-Ayala as bishop of the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, which covers all of West Virginia. Menjivar-Ayala originally arrived in San Ysidro, California, smuggled in a car trunk after making several prior attempts as a teenager to flee guerrilla war-torn El Salvador.
The bishop has also been critical of increased immigration enforcement measures, calling them a human rights concern and responding directly to critiques of the church from fellow Catholics in the Trump administration ...

For the past two years, New York and New Jersey infectious disease experts have been laser focused on prep and training for the upcoming FIFA World Cup games — with 1.2 million visitors from around the world set to watch 48 teams battle it out on the pitch.
Across the US, those numbers skyrocket to 6-7 million.
And with that massive influx of foreign visitors comes the threat of infectious — and sometimes deadly — diseases, including viral hemorrhagic fevers, RSV, tuberculosis, measles, varicella, hepatitis A, typhoid, malaria, SARS, hantavirus and even “high consequence” diseases with high mortality rates, like cholera and Ebola.

In 1973, when Nixon was winding down the Vietnam War, Congress enacted the War Powers Resolution. The Democrats backing the resolution held veto-proof majorities in both chambers of Congress. Nixon’s veto was symbolic only.
The Resolution puts the president on a clock: He has 48 hours after initiating an armed conflict to notify Congress, and after 60 days, unless Congress gives him permission, he must end the military action.
Today, President Trump has declared war on the War Powers Resolution, saying that Congress cannot constrain his constitutional role as commander in chief and executive over foreign policy.

President Donald Trump indicated Friday in letters to Congress that he does not need their approval to continue a military operation in Iran as the 60-day deadline for Trump formally notifying them of the hostilities looms.
The United States and Israel launched aerial strikes on Iran on Feb. 28 and Trump formally notified Congress of the hostilities on March 2, meaning the 60-day window for Congress to make a declaration of war closes Friday.
Trump, however, said the "hostilities" that began in February have since been terminated with the ceasefire. On April 7, 2026, I ordered a two-week ceasefire," Trump wrote in letters that went to both chambers, per NBC News.

The threat elevation signals that a terrorist attack is now considered highly likely, per Counter Terrorism Policing.

President Donald Trump told Congress on Friday that any effort to use the War Powers Act to rein in the strikes against Iran is irrelevant because he has declared that the conflict is over.
The 1973 War Powers Resolution says that a president is supposed to seek congressional authorization for a war if the conflict lasts longer than 60 days, according to NBC News.
The U.S. attacked Iran on Feb. 28. Trump notified Congress on March 2, which started the 60-day time period.
On Friday, Trump formally told Congress he does not need to submit anything for approval.

President Donald Trump spoke at the Forum Club of the Palm Beaches in Florida on Friday night, and he seemed in a jocular mood. He had a wry smile on his face as he talked about the 67-year-old problem of communist Cuba, which is only 90 miles off Key West. The long-suffering residents have faced dire economic conditions for decades, and photographs show an island country still mired in the 1960s. Meanwhile, they have a long history of cozying up to our enemies. Maybe we’ll just take it, the president joked (?). Watch:

The ATF doesn't give us much to celebrate, but they have now. I'm mostly stoked about what's happened, and the fact that Everytown is very upset about it just makes me like them even more. Especially the whole "engaged in the business" thing. While the groundwork was laid by law in the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the ATF took it way beyond what the law specified. They got stupid, as per usual, and that's part of why these changes are happening.
But while Everytown made it clear they don't like it, their buddies at The Trace--which is run by Everytown's president,

What if social media were treated like tobacco?
It might sound like a fantasy, but it’s closer to reality than you might think. Last year, Australia became the first country to ban social media for minors. The law passed the Australian parliament by an overwhelming margin and was wildly popular among Australian adults.
Taking a cue, the European Union released an app enabling age verification on social platforms, while a handful of European nations are mulling Australia-style bans. The Canadian government is “very seriously” considering mandatory age limits, while even here in America, the Massachusetts state house recently voted to ban social media for children under 14.

Critics often frame Iranian politics as a struggle between moderates and hardliners, but this distinction has repeatedly proven disastrously misleading. Different styles may appear, but the overarching objective remains the same: preserving the Islamist regime of Iran to continue jihad (holy war).
Softer rhetoric has emerged when the regime needed economic rescue or a diplomatic opening. Once the pressure recedes, the underlying strategic behavior remains unchanged.
In many ways, so-called "moderates" have historically served as the most effective guardians of the system: they are able to secure concessions from the outside world while preserving the internal order.

This makes the race harder for Republicans. Senator Klobuchar has a history of winning statewide elections. This may sound like a Kevin Bacon-style degree-of-separation connection, but please bear with me. I'm going to try to connect a dumb decision in 1977 that ultimately led to Somali immigration to Minneapolis. Essentially, it was a period of chaos that led to corruption.
When Siad Barre ordered the invasion of Ogaden in 1977, the objective seemed straightforward: seize territory and unite ethnic Somalis under a single flag.
Somali forces quickly advanced; however, the support Barre expected from the Soviet Union shifted to Ethiopia, followed by Cuban troops entering the fight, and the offensive collapsed.

The shibboleth that “diversity is our strength” is one of the worst canards of our time. There is a great deal of empirical data indicating that in general, cultural diversity is a weakness, not a strength. Culturally diverse societies (which can mean ethnically diverse, but doesn’t have to) are generally lower-trust societies, which inhibits economic growth. Western Europe is living proof of that proposition.
But there is another way in which “diversity” in the DEI sense–i.e., the jerry-rigged quotas resulting from an obsession with race, sex, and sexual orientation–is bad. Maximum effectiveness, in terms of economic efficiency, combat readiness, or pretty much anything you want to measure,

The announcement comes two days after the president posted on social media that the United States was considering reducing troops in Germany.

Trump indicated that he would consider doing the same with Italy and Spain.V
