(The Center Square) — On the heels of President Donald Trump threatening to reduce troops in Europe, the Department of War announced Friday the reduction of 5,000 troops from Germany within the next year. The announcement comes two days after the president posted on social media that the United States was considering reducing troops in Germany. On Thursday, The Center Square asked the president if he also was considering pulling troops out of Italy and Spain following the countries’ decisions not to provide any support in the strikes on Iran. Trump indicated that he would consider doing the same with Italy and Spain.V

Henrilynn Ibezim, a former Democratic mayoral candidate in New Jersey, pleaded guilty to forging nearly 1,000 voter registration applications during the 2021 Democratic primary, New Jersey’s Office of the Attorney General announced Thursday. During the 2021 Democratic primary for Plainfield, New Jersey’s mayoral seat, Ibezim allegedly brought a garbage bag filled with around 1,000 falsified voter registration applications to a post office in Elizabeth, New Jersey, with the intention of mailing them to Union County’s registration commissioner. Of the 1,000 applications, most were completed with the handwriting of only three or four people, according to the attorney general.

In her morning press conference Thursday, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said she will not protect politicians but demands irrefutable proof of drug trafficking crimes as charged by the U.S. Department of Justice against current Sinaloa governor Ruben Rocha Moya and nine others in a bombshell escalation of tensions between the countries. “We are not going to cover anyone who has committed a crime, however, if there is no clear evidence, it is clear that the purpose of these charges by the Department of Justice is political,” Sheinbaum said.

When Stanford Law School students shut down a Federalist Society chapter event with a conservative federal appeals judge, aided by a diversity, equity and inclusion dean, and circulated a "headshots" poster identifying chapter board members, the school did not punish deplatformers and censored the event video so they couldn't be identified. Though the law school suspended DEI dean Tirien Steinbach, who left months later, and the university pledged to add free speech and academic freedom to admissions, student orientation and staff training, the damage had been done: Federal appeals judges blacklisted Stanford Law students from clerkships and congressional Republicans targeted its accreditation.

(The Center Square) — New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is being urged to veto a bill that would require food manufacturers to ban several additives in products they sell in the state, which industry officials say will drive up grocery prices. Lawmakers last week approved a bill that would ban three toxic chemicals — red dye 3, potassium bromate, and propylparaben — from food sold in the state, while requiring manufacturers to disclose other additives. Backers of the so-called Food Safety and Chemical Disclosure Act, which is Hochul's desk now awaiting action, said it is focused on boosting transparency and protecting consumers from harmful food additives.
UAE exit from OPEC just latest blow to

The United Arab Emirates' decision this week to leave the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) is just the latest departure and yet another sign that the cartel’s decades-long grip over global energy markets is drifting further into the history books. The UAE has ambitions to increase its oil and gas production, and this has brought it into conflict with other members of the cartel, primarily Saudi Arabia. The production quotas the group set were aimed at keeping prices higher, and that worked well when the Middle East was the primary energy producer in the world.

We’re in the eighth week of the Iran waropens in a new tab, and things are starting to heat up even though there’s not kinetic action. What do I mean by heating up? The Iranian government has ceased to exist. We don’t know, and the Iranians don’t know who holds power. There is the Islamic Revolutionary Guard. There is the theocracy, there is the elected people in Parliament, and there is a regular military. And those four groups operate in schizophrenic fashion. By the same token, sometimes they give off signals that they would like to negotiate because that is predicated on popular resistance.

The issue was simple for New Jersey: We can't protect consumers from deception about abortion services without requiring pro-life pregnancy centers to identify donors. The response from the Supreme Court on Wednesday was just as simple: Have you read our precedents? Chief Justice John Roberts further cemented his reputation as "Mr. First Amendment" by wrangling the high court's perceived conservative ideologues and institutionalists as well as the liberals into a unanimous ruling for both donor privacy and access to federal courts, with Justice Neil Gorsuch writing the opinion and no one muddling the message with a concurrence.

In the wake of the Charlottesville rally in August 2017, the media relied on Southern Poverty Law Center experts to explain an apparent rise in white supremacy in America after Donald Trump’s election. But, while SPLC’s experts helped the media understand America’s racism problem after the rally, it was allegedly funding an organizer of the event, a member of a racist group prone to extremism. At the same time it was double-dipping, the Charlottesville rally launched SPLC’s credibility to new heights and boosted its fundraising hauls. Throughout the last decade, SPLC also covertly funded members of racist groups prone to extremism, including the Aryan Nations,

Just two weeks remain before the five-year legal deadline on May 11 to indict Fauci for denying under oath that he funded “gain of function” experiments that modified bat coronaviruses in the same city where the pandemic started.

Even if the most dire climate scenarios are accurate, and humanity must transition away from fossil fuel, it can’t happen overnight. The rational approach is to first develop alternative sources of energy without precipitously destroying the industries that reliably produce oil and natural gas. Once alternatives are available at a competitive price and in sufficient quantities, demand naturally migrates to the alternatives. Meanwhile, the oil and gas industry, recognizing that their core business is to provide energy, actually stays healthy by also investing in the transition.

Do you ever wonder why so many Blue states refuse to hand over their voter rolls to the federal government? After all, there is a federal law that requires certain measures to ensure ballot integrity, passed in the wake of the 2000 Florida debacle. It requires, among other things, that states clean their voter rolls of ineligible voters. But these states refuse to do that, and they refuse to show that they aren't breaking federal law. Of course, every sentient person knows exactly why they do both of those things: they cheat, and want to make it as hard as possible to detect the cheating, and almost impossible to audit elections

New Science Shows How ‘Helpful’ Campaigns

For decades, the mental health industry and its allies in media, government, and education have operated on a simple assumption: the more mental health awareness we spread, through campaigns, school programs, social media, and public service announcements, the better. Raise awareness, reduce stigma, encourage help-seeking, and mental health will surely improve. New evidence shows the opposite is happening. Well-intentioned awareness efforts are actively backfiring, manufacturing distress, inflating diagnoses, and turning normal human emotions into chronic “disorders.” The shocking result is that these campaigns are turning mentally fit people into self-diagnosed mentally ill patients, with symptoms effectively “contracted” from the awareness messages themselves.

U.S. Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., introduced bipartisan legislation labeled the “Hot Rotisserie Chicken Act,” in the Senate a week ago

The United States has been reassessing the force strength our military maintains around the world, under Secretary of War Pete Hegseth in President Trump's second term, and it is now acting on that review, according to new reporting on Friday: President Trump ordered the Pentagon on Friday to withdraw about 5,000 U.S. service members from Germany amid his public feud with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The redeployment of troops will bring the number of service members roughly to pre-2022 levels and will affect a brigade combat team and potentially other U.S. forces already in Germany, according to a senior Pentagon official.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren was not happy when the Senate Banking Committee voted to advance Kevin Warsh’s nomination to lead the Federal Reserve, saying it would amount to a takeover of the Fed by President Donald Trump. No surprise there. For today’s Democrats, everything Trump does is either illegal, a threat to Democracy, or fascistic. But then Warren said that “The Trump economy is in real trouble. Inflation is up, job creation is down. The stink of stagflation is in the air, and President Trump is getting desperate.” Is any of that true?
