The Strange New Left-Wing Cult of Ed Miliband

Over at the New Statesman, a long hagiography of Ed Miliband blows a great deal of smoke on behalf of the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero. According to Will Lloyd, to some acclaim from both sides of the climate policy debate, Miliband has become “the most powerful man in Government” and may even have been so during the 14 years of Conservative Party rule. Many words marshal some evidence towards Lloyd’s conclusion, but I believe that Lloyd makes far too much of Miliband’s meagre talents. The Gulf countries were trying to advance a resolution drafted by Bahrain in the United Nations Security Council that would allow the use of force to defend their shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The resolution: Now that would seem simple, and primarily defensive, to be able to protect yourself and get through But the effort was effectively stymied on Thursday by three countries. You could probably guess two of them - Russia and China. But the third was ridiculous: France. They opposed any authorization of military action or use of force, according to a diplomat and a senior U.N. official..

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has overturned the controversial rule banning firearms from military installations. Up until now, it was nearly impossible for servicemen to obtain permission to carry personal firearms on military posts and bases. That is about the change. “Not all enemies are foreign, nor are they all outside our borders,” said Hegseth in an April 2 video. “Some are domestic. Confirming your God-given right to self protection is what I'm signing into action today. And I'm proud to do so.”

Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger (D.) and other local authorities are under fire over a recent string of very high profile and preventable crimes committed by illegal aliens in the sanctuary state. One of Spanberger’s first actions as governor was to sign an executive order barring state and local authorities from cooperating with federal authorities for federal immigration enforcement. Since then, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has pleaded with Spanberger and Fairfax County officials to stop releasing dangerous criminals back into the community without notifying ICE. In the past few weeks,

Left-wing outlet The Guardian pushed a shaky narrative suggesting that Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard could be on the chopping block. But the White House wasted no time obliterating the report, calling it fake news. According to The Guardian, Trump had allegedly been “considering” whether to fire Gabbard, citing anonymous sources who claimed the president was frustrated over her handling of former National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent, who resigned after criticizing the administration’s rationale for confronting Iran. White House spokesman Steven Cheung issued a blistering statement to the press, setting the record straight:

California Governor Gavin Newsom has reportedly spent upwards of $20 million on a consulting firm that was going to search for ways to cut government waste. You could not make this up. This is the most Democrat government story ever. Newsom could have just looked at his state on his own and picked out expensive programs that aren’t working and recommended that they be cut himself, but then he would have to own those decisions. Democrat base voters would then be likely to come after him for this and hold him accountable. By burying this under a big expensive consulting firm, he can evade responsibility.

One month into Operation Epic Fury against the Islamic Republic of Iran, a long-overdue conversation has finally broken into the open: What, exactly, is the enduring rationale for NATO? For decades, this question has been treated in Washington foreign policy circles as heretical. But it isn't. And to their credit, President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are now saying so plainly. As Trump recently put it, "They haven't been friends when we needed them. We've never asked them for much. ... It's a one-way street." Rubio has been similarly blunt:

Happy Friday, dear Kruiser Morning Briefing friends. Merrwysq felt that kombucha was the gateway drug to quoting Sartre in service elevators. It's a pretty safe bet to assume that most politicians are more self-involved than they are self-aware. Perhaps it wasn't always that way, but we know what we're dealing with here in the modern era. There are varying degrees of lack of self-awareness among politicians and few in history have been more clueless than the woman who recently spent four years being one heartbeat away from the presidency, Kamala Harris.

Eric Swalwell of California. The video is from 2025 but it is getting a lot of play on social media as the Swalwell story is blowing up this week. According to Hanson, Fang Fang came to see him at his office at the Hoover Institution but he would not even be left alone with her because he was onto her act from the start. As he relays the story below, he tears into Sawlwell for being taken in by such an obvious scam artist.

While Christmas — the birth date of the Messiah, Jesus Christ — marks the watershed of splitting calendar history into two epochs, B.C. and A.D., Easter marks the more important day for Christians and the world. Easter is the celebration of what is known as resurrection, which was living proof of God’s plan of life going beyond death for those who are redeemed, not by their works, but by their faith in the savior. The resurrection on the third day after Christ’s death transformed the world forever, providing proof that seeing is believing in “life after death.”

Gotham’s mayor appeared more than willing to incentivize as a means to stop the city from hemorrhaging taxpayers, as one of the wealthiest neighborhoods prepared for “free” services. As with all communists, the reality of governance marked a stark contrast from the campaign trail for New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D) after he plied voters with all sorts of taxpayer-funded programs like free buses. Now, weeks after proposing a massive tax hike to cover the budget, plans to open a government childcare center on the Upper East Side are getting attention as a means to “persuade” the wealthy from jumping ship.

No, you didn’t read that headline wrong. The Austrian President has officially gone off the rails. This guy just gave us a glimpse into how the messed up globalist mind works when it finally stops pretending to be sane. Globalist leaders spent years flooding Europe with failed “refugees welcome” policies that have destroyed communities, crushed national identity, erased traditions, and helped turn once-safe countries into places filled with soaring violent crime. And the far-left leaders behind this madness still haven’t learned a single thing. In fact, they’ve actually become more unhinged, arrogant, and totally absurd. Which brings us to the latest gem from Europe’s ruling class.

Thousands of American babies [born after January 20, 2025] will immediately lose their citizenship,” ACLU Legal Director Cecillia Wang told the nine justices on Wednesday morning. “And if you credit the government’s theory, the citizenship of millions of Americans past, present … could be called into question.”

President Donald Trump on Wednesday night delivered an address to the nation that achieved the legacy media headlines he needed to be displayed for the American people and made an unequivocal America-first declaration that the issues surrounding the Strait of Hormuz are not America's problem. "We produce more oil and gas than Saudi Arabia and Russia combined," Trump said in a prime-time White House address. "And we're in great shape for the future. The U.S. imports almost no oil through the Hormuz Strait and won't be taking any in the future. We don't need it."

Kia said it would begin selling its lower-priced EV3 in the United States later this year, while Subaru offered a new three-row EV named the “Getaway” that can seat seven. The Japanese automaker’s family EV SUV will go on sale later this year or next year, its fourth EV model in the US market. Automakers are facing a tougher US EV market but higher gasoline prices in recent weeks have spurred fresh interest. “The market is going to come back

Should California codify Islamic religious observances into state-recognized holidays in the United States? As a nation, the essence of who we are as a People is rooted in our Judeo-Christian values and principles, dating back to the Magna Carta. This shared moral vocabulary has shaped Western thinking since America’s founding. Why, then, would any State in the Union formally endorse or incorporate into our educational and other public institutions a religious doctrine with practices antithetical to the belief system? AB 2017, introduced by Progressive Democrats Assemblyman Matt Haney and Senator Aisha Wahab, proposes adding Eid al-Fitr (Festival of Breaking the Fast) and Eid al-Adha (Festival of Sacrifice) to California’s recognized holidays.

The President said the UK “doesn’t even have a navy” as he accused Keir Starmer of only caring about building “windmills”. While the three-judge panel upheld Peters’s conviction, it overturned her nine-year sentence because it was “based in part on improper consideration of her exercise of her right to free speech.” The panel found the judge who sentenced Peters violated her rights
