Murder acquittal in killing of NYPD hero
cop Jonathan Diller is ‘gut punch’

Two years ago, career criminal Guy Rivera shot and killed NYPD Detective Jonathan Diller on a street in Queens while he was doing the job this city asked him to do. He was 31 years old. A husband. A father. A police officer who understood what the work required of him and accepted it. On that night, he stepped forward into danger with the same sense of purpose and nobility that defined his career. This week, a jury returned its verdict. And that not guilty verdict of murder in the first degree landed like a gut punch to the entire New York City Police Department.

Comments:

Time to end the "jury of his peers'? It no longer works, as the peer pool is often sympathetic to the miscreant. 'Honor killings' will be coming soon, too.

OP...according to the President of Austria, women need to get used to wearing a hijab, so I'm pretty sure we're also going to have to get used to the idea of 'honor killings'.

IMO when an offender opens fire on police officer any officer on the scene should not stop shooting until the offender stops breathing.

It is difficult to understand why any police officer in NYC remains on the job. This should be a wake up call to MOVE and find a city where good people will support you.

If I was a NYC cop, I’d only stay on the job long enough to find a new position in a red state, plus 2 weeks notice. Until then, I’d do the bare minimum the job requires.

I know there must be a lot of reasons to remain in a thankless job, in a city that makes no secret about how much they hate you, but honestly, get out. There are so many other jurisdictions where law and order still matter and would welcome a good cop.

If I was a NYC cop with the ability to retire with full benefits tomorrow, I would be filing my papers today. And planning to move to a community which respects their police and first responders. If I wanted to continue my profession, I'd do it there.

Today is supposedly the last day that Canadian gun owners can hand in firearms banned by the Liberal government and still receive compensation for their guns. With just 51,000 firearms turned in as of last week, the federal government has collected just a little more than one-third of the total number of firearms it anticipated receiving, and most provinces have refused to aid in the Liberals' gun ban scheme. That opposition, though, has its limits. Blaine Beaven, the new firearms commissioner in Saskatchewan, says the province is working to provide as much protection to gun owners as it can. It’s like a pandemic: Weekly news reports of yet another teacher arrested for having an erotic relationship with a student – often a young, attractive female exploiting a teen male under the age of consent. But this phenomenon of “educator sexual misconduct,” or ESM, is not as bad as it appears. In fact, it’s worse. Such stories evoke the prurient pop music theme found in the rock band Van Halen’s 1984 tune “Hot For Teacher.” However, in the real world, the overwhelming majority of these criminal relationships are never disclosed and prosecuted, and their destructive impact on victims goes largely unreported.

The City of Chicago instituted its Checkout Bag Tax in 2017. When introduced, allegedly to reduce the use of grocery bags to protect the environment, the charge was seven cents per bag. It was raised to ten cents per bag in 2025, and was most recently increased to fifteen cents per bag on Jan. 1, 2026. Before we look into these ideas in detail, let’s consider that history. A decade ago, Chicago did not have a bag tax. Then they started in 2017 with seven cents, liked it, and increased that number by 43% last year. Then this year,

The New York Times set out Friday to embarrass President Donald Trump over his hardline stance on NATO. It wound up spectacularly backfiring on them. Several NATO nations have declined to join a U.S.-Israel military operation targeting Iran. Alliance members also refused Trump's requests to deploy their forces to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, much to the chagrin of President Trump, who figures that if NATO allies won’t help the United States, then the alliance has become meaningless. So the paper ran a piece criticizing Trump's threats to withdraw from the alliance, and the print edition’s headline asked a pointed question: "A North American Treaty Organization Without America?"
