The Gulf countries were trying to advance a resolution drafted by Bahrain in the United Nations Security Council that would allow the use of force to defend their shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The resolution: Now that would seem simple, and primarily defensive, to be able to protect yourself and get through But the effort was effectively stymied on Thursday by three countries. You could probably guess two of them - Russia and China. But the third was ridiculous: France. They opposed any authorization of military action or use of force, according to a diplomat and a senior U.N. official..

Trump's genius is exposing what the true feelings towards America are by Europe. They have always felt this way. We need to do an uncontested divorce and leave NATO.

Trump should just say "Fine"...The USA will simply buy every ship and shipment stuck at the straits by Iran's threats, WE will escort "Our" ships and cargoes through, Then sell the cargoes, and perhaps the ships elsewhere. Willing nations, and even individuals, may "Buy in" to the "International LibertyShip Corporation" which will be made up of Tankers, Freighters, bulk ships, container vessels, they will sail under the USA Flag, and be treated as sovereign US Soil. Tariffs on products being carried will be set by the USA, whether that means additional or waived tariffs will beset on a per ship basis depending upon cargo source and destination. ALL of these vessels will be designated "Jones Act" vessels and receive the same "Priorities" already negotiated for USA Vessels at the Panama, Suez, and various ports. JOBS! Eventually the entire new fleets will be staffed/served/officered by American Merchant Marine sailors, and MM academies will be enhanced/expanded nationwide..."Primarily in poor economy, low jobs, blue Cities". For more "Dangerous" areas of the world, contingents of US Forces will provide onboard security and/or air/surface/subsurface protection. Special Security pods of radar, missile, rocket, chaingun, anti aircraft, drone, and small surface vessel defense tools can be helo lifted to, and removed from the decks of these vessels, in addition to any actual Naval Escorts which will be needed.. Other vessels NOT actually "Owned" by the "International Liberty Ship Corporation" can negotiate a "Tag along" and convoy with these Freedom Flotilla's(TM). There is certainly international historical Precedents for such an endeavor, the WORLD was brought into Trade by the Spanish, Dutch, British, Portuguese, Swedish, French, Danish, "Trading Companies"(that is how Denmark managed to "acquire" Greenland) That all operated under warship protection as well as corporation ships with defensive capabilities.

Macron said use of force was unrealistic because it would take an inordinate amount of courage and strength, neither of which we Frogs possess.

The French government for over 80 years were cowards. There are many great citizen patriots but their leaders caved when anyone rattled a "sword". Look how they turned over France to the Germans during WWII.
I
would not expect to see them show any backbone now.

We made a trip to France some years ago and stood looking at the 11,000 graves in the American Cemetery. The US won't be engaging in that kind of slaughter again for a feckless, unfaithful 'ally'. I will say France still makes excellent cheese and I doubt Halal cheese is anywhere near as good.

I am eternally grateful to my father’s ancestors for leaving Normandy in the 1600’s and sailing to Quebec, and moving to the U.S. after the Civil War. I’d hate to be associated with the level of cowardice shown by the French these days.

What is this "Committee of 41" going to do? Send strong worded messages to the Ayatollah? If that doesn't work, there is always a stronger worded message. Aren't we lucky to have smart, far sighted leadership able to play three dimensional chess like Trump an string willed, iron jawed executives like Hegseth in charge?

I recall that in reading about World War II, Roosevelt, Eisenhower, Churchill and Montgomery had more trouble and aggravation in dealing with French leader de Gaulle than they did in dealing with Hitler.
In contrast, years ago one of my co-workers sons came back from deployment in Iraq,
He was at 'the tip of the spear', and he spoke very highly of the French military people that were alongside his unit.

Perhaps Brigitte should smack this little French fry much more often and harder. Put some muscle into it.
Hopefully soon it'll be the end of the line for Manny Macron and he will face the justice he deserves.

Re #8. A good friend was a US Army colonel and had been in the tank corps which made the "big hook" attack in Desert Storm. He had worked with French combat troops a number of time and found them to be very competent, professional and brave. He was outspoken on this topic.
It is a bit tiresome to hear the endless slurs by people who are referring to 80 year old leadership failures to slur current combat soldiers. And all the history shows that DeGaulle was a total jerk, an arrogant, troublesome pain in the butt who seemed get more fun out of causing trouble for the Allies than causing trouble for the Germans. The political and military leaders in WW2 in France were incompetent and foolish.
Author and Army officer Kurt Schlichter is similarly very complimentary about the French troops that he fought alongside in his sandbox wars. And, I think the French Foreign Legion has always had a history of bravery and professionalism, even by many who were not actually Frenchmen, but who fought under the French flag.
I go back farther in history to honor three great Frenchmen...Marquis de Lafayette, Compte de Rochambeau, and Compt de Grasse. Lafayette brought 5,000 personal troops to fight alongside Washington, Rochambeau brought his personal 30,000 man army to equal the size of Washington's army, and Grasse used his fleet to blockade the entrance to the Chesapeake Bay, keeping the British fleet from rescuing General Cornwallis from his trap on the Yorktown peninsula. Without these three great Frenchmen, and their troops and sailors, it is very unlikely that we could have won our independence from Britain.

I don't think anyone is surprised by this.
Countries are led by politicians and are populated by people. Leaders often are not a reflection of the people they govern.

France was not always feckless. Lafayette volunteered to help us defeat England in the American Revolution. But their brave men were lost in early battles, and the wimp DNA is all that is left now.

France has been a lost country since the end of WWII. Their Maginot Line had come well equipped with large white linens and long flagpoles on which to hang them. France's "Commander-in-Chief," a quisling for whom they named their largest airport, came to the battlefield but mere days after the war was over. His only interest was in 1) Himself, 2) France and Himself, and 3) Himself. Somethings never change and today's (the "traditional) Frenchman is quickly learning the lesson all free nations have learned, which is that our "ruling political class of "professional politicians," are neither to be trusted, nor tolerated, as the mess that appears all around them is but one of THAT groups' own making. Never, ever trust a professional politician. At this point, France can do the only thing France has been able to do on the world stage since WWII, and that is simply to OPPOSE anything NATO decides to do, or especially, the USA> The Frogs can all got to hell, as far as I'm concerned, and they're more than half the way there now. /s

Every country in Europe would have laws on the books concerning defense against piracy, which is what Iran is conducting, just like our Somali friends used to do before stealing money became much easier in the US.
