Illinois Democrat Sen. Tammy Duckworth sent a letter to the Transportation Security Administration on Friday demanding the agency rescind its "shoes-on" policy, according to a report. In a letter obtained by CBS News, Duckworth called the policy a "reckless act" that may be placing flight passengers at risk. Duckworth also warned that the policy was likely implemented "without meaningful consultation with TSA," citing an investigation by the Department of Homeland Security's inspector general that found it created a new security vulnerability in airport screening systems. The IG's classified report found that TSA scanners are unable to effectively screen shoes, raising concerns that threat items could evade detection. The report was allegedly buried

Does Duckworth even have legs let alone feet? I mean thank you for your service Tammy but you are not the one who will be juggling bags, emptying pockets, taking off belts and shoes for an agency that cannot actually show they have prevented a single shoe bomber or any other terrorist in the entire 25 years of its existence. To hell with privatizing it just get rid of it.

As far as I know, only this country had the absolute stupidity to require travelers to remove shows to get through security. There have been some flights I took where show removal was not required but the last trip I took from Palm Springs to Tampa required show removal.

I take the opposite approach. I think no flight should be allowed to take off until at least 10% of the passengers have firearms. If necessary, arms would be issued to legal adults make up the numbers. The flights would become very peaceful.

As a member of Congress, Duckworth enjoys her Congressional airport perks like skipping TSA checkpoints. And since Duckworth lost her legs, shoes aren't an issue for her. Maybe there should be a mandate that people in wheelchairs have to get out of their wheelchair so that they can be searched for explosives.

The danger that I see is having the passenger in front of you not having washed his feet for several days. If we need more TSA agents, I would like to remind them that former pretend president Joe Biden is currently unemployed. After the age of 75, passengers do not need to remove shoes. TSA rule. You just say, politely. "I'm 75, so I won't be removing my shoes." to a TSA agent. The issue is risk of falling with hurried shoe removal in lines, so this rule was enacted.

After the shoe bomber was discovered TSA was required to have everyone take there shoes off. About a year or two later, an exception was made — only people wearing tennis shoes did NOT have to take their shoes off. This went on for several years until the elderly were no longer required to take their shoes off. Finally, nobody was required to take their shoes off. Now Tammy wants to start this all over again. Another gift from the Democrats. #SNAFU

“How about offering an award for being an illegal immigrant? No sane country would do that.” That is not a quote from President Donald Trump or Justice Sam Alito; it is a quote from the late Democrat icon Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nevada) back in 1993. Some of the same Democrats aggressively defending the modern warped definition of birthright citizenship were opposed to it a few decades ago, before it became Democrat Party dogma that cheap labor and illicit votes were more important than anything else, and that illegal immigration was therefore sacred. Leaving aside all of the many reasons to criticize Harry Reid’s career, he laid out the case against

President Donald Trump first broached the idea of reopening the prison on Alcatraz Island in the San Francisco Bay in May 2025, but with the administration’s release of its budget proposal to Congress he is looking to put his plan in motion. Alcatraz was closed in 1963 after 30 years as an active prison that has become famous for its former inmates and stories of attempted escapes, but has long been a popular tourist attraction that sees more than one million people per year visit the island,

In a development raising red flags across the Atlantic, Britain’s Labour government has appointed the UK’s first “anti-Muslim hostility tsar” and adopted a new definition of anti-Muslim hostility — reframed from “Islamophobia” — as part of its £4 million social cohesion strategy. The definition describes such hostility as “a type of racism” targeting “expressions of Muslimness or perceived Muslimness,” including prejudicial stereotyping that could incite hatred. Officials claim it addresses record-high anti-Muslim hate crimes while protecting free speech. Critics, however, see it as a potential censorship tool that could limit scrutiny of Islamic extremism, grooming gangs, or integration challenges.

President Donald Trump on Friday proposed to begin privatizing airport security operations handled by the Transportation Security Administration, in an effort to save money. The White House budget proposes cutting funding for the federal agency created after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks by $52 million and would require small airports to enroll in a program in which TSA pays for private screeners. TSA has about 50,000 federal employees who handle screening at nearly all U.S. airports. Budget documents released on Friday said airports currently using the privatization program have demonstrated savings compared to federal screening operations. In recent weeks, major U.S. airports suffered massive disruptions after TSA security officers went unpaid since mid-February

The New York Times set out Friday to embarrass President Donald Trump over his hardline stance on NATO. It wound up spectacularly backfiring on them. Several NATO nations have declined to join a U.S.-Israel military operation targeting Iran. Alliance members also refused Trump's requests to deploy their forces to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, much to the chagrin of President Trump, who figures that if NATO allies won’t help the United States, then the alliance has become meaningless. So the paper ran a piece criticizing Trump's threats to withdraw from the alliance, and the print edition’s headline asked a pointed question: "A North American Treaty Organization Without America?"
