Back in 2022 Jones went driving on the I-64 freeway east of Richmond, VA and got pulled over for speeding. The speed limit on this stretch of freeway is 70 mph. We have no idea how the government shutdown, now in its fourth week and the second longest in history, will end, or how. But what is increasingly clear is how badly Democrats miscalculated on this one.
Consider three bits of news from this week:
First, the shutdown isn’t hurting Republicans.
In fact, a Reuters/Ipsos poll showed that President Donald Trump’s approval rating has ticked up by two points to 42% since the shutdown started. Other polls find it unchanged. The Real Clear Politics average shows Trump’s disapproval at 52%, which is down a point from the day before the shutdown started.

“You will see an increase in ICE arrests because there are so many criminals and illegal aliens that have been released in New York, specifically,” Lyons said in a Fox News interview.You will see us making those criminal arrests to make New York safe again. This entire exercise is a thought experiment, an attempt to look at illegal immigration through the lens of simplicity. Regardless of whether the numbers are distorted, underinflated, or politically manipulated, the point remains: the cost to the U.S. taxpayer is enormous. It takes away from their children’s future, their retirement security, and their ability to pay monthly bills. This is not a partisan rant, it’s a segmented breakdown of a quiet crisis.
In a time when families are tightening budgets and questioning every dollar spent, one cost remains largely invisible, yet it drains billions from our economy and erodes the moral foundation of our republic.
Just when Republicans are winning, they go and shoot themselves in the foot, giving away vital political gains to liberals. We are literally the gift that keeps giving.

President Trump will knock Democratic front-runner Zohran Mamdani on his “tuchus” if he becomes the Big Apple’s next mayor, rival Andrew Cuomo contended during Wednesday night’s debate.
The former governor, when asked about how he plans to work with Trump, said the way to deal with the “hyper-aggressive” president is to confront him.
Cuomo, running as an independent, then cast proud socialist Mamdani as simply not up to the task. He thinks he’s a kid and he’s going to knock him on his tuchus,” Cuomo said. “It is a balance, but you’re going to have to be adversarial when you need to.

More than 650 rabbis warned Wednesday that electing Democratic Socialist frontrunner Zohran Mamdani would endanger “the safety and dignity of Jews in every city,” citing his refusal to condemn “globalize the intifada,” denial of Israel’s legitimacy, and “genocide” claims, according to a letter published by the Jewish Majority. The suspected semi-truck driver behind an eight-car accident in Ontario, California, has been identified as Jashanpreet Singh, an illegal alien from India, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials.
Fox News’s Bill Melugin revealed in a post on X that “multiple ICE sources” said Singh, 21, the semi-truck driver allegedly behind the accident that left three people dead in an alleged DUI-related crash, had been “caught & released” at the California border under the Biden administration in March 2022.

A semi-truck driver who was arrested for driving under the influence following a deadly crash on the 10 Freeway in Ontario on Tuesday is in the United States illegally, according to officials with the Department of Homeland Security. They told CBS News that 21-year-old Jashanpreet Singh is an Indian national who entered the country by crossing the U.S.-Mexico border in 2022. He is a resident of Yuba City, California, which is northeast of San Francisco. Singh was arrested on Tuesday by California Highway Patrol officers in connection with an eight-vehicle collision that included four commercial vehicles. The crash left three people dead and four others hospitalized in varying conditions.
A Virginia man has been arrested for illegally keeping over 1,000 classified documents about national defense in his basement home, with some in trash bags, the Department of Justice announced.
Ashley Tellis, 64, a U.S. citizen residing in Vienna, Virginia, was arrested on Oct. 11 in connection with his alleged unlawful retention of classified national defense information. Tellis appeared in the Eastern District of Virginia for a detention hearing.
Court documents say Tellis held a Top Secret security clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access. He has worked for the U.S. Department of State since 2001

A Colombian court on Tuesday acquitted former President Alvaro Uribe of fraud and bribery charges in a long-running case over alleged witness tampering that could have placed him under 12 years of house arrest.
However, a senator involved in the proceedings said he would appeal the decision, potentially sending the case to the Supreme Court. Uribe, who led Colombia’s executive branch from 2002 to 2010, was sentenced in early August, making him Colombia’s first-ever former president to be criminally convicted. The three-magistrate panel ruled in a decision that the evidence cited by the judge who sentenced Uribe was not sufficiently strong or legally valid to merit the conviction.
