We're on the 24th day of the Schumer Shutdown, and the Democrats are continuing to vote against opening the government.
But the Democrats are sending their people out to spin things as best they can. It is not going well for them.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (NY-8) appeared on CNBC, where he was crushed by the facts. This was priceless as host Becky Quick nuked the Democrats' argument on Obamacare subsidies. What you're asking Republicans to do when they control the White House, Senate, and House is effectively what the Democrats could not do when they controlled all 3 of those heads of government themselves. Last evening, the U.S. Senate adjourned until Monday, guaranteeing that the federal government “shutdown” will extend for a full four weeks. Before they left town, Senators confirmed the fifth federal judge this month, with two more teed up for Monday evening when they return.
For his part, Pres. Trump will be off to Asia this weekend. The Hill newspaper reports,
President Trump on Friday will travel to Asia for his first visit to the region since returning to the White House. The visit comes as the government shutdown hits Day 24 with no end in sight.

During an obligatory discussion about the second-longest government shutdown in U.S. history, Morning Joe guest and Politico columnist Jonathan Martin admitted on Wednesday that Democrats were holding out in defiance of President Trump while using health care as a “vehicle.” Trump hosted Senate Republicans for lunch at the White House on Tuesday, indicating a united Republican front. Martin was asked by MSNBC’s Mike Barnicle about Senate Majority Leader John Thune’s (R-SD) role in the budget mishap, to which he answered by explaining the issue that had plagued Republican effort

The Pentagon is sending the world’s largest aircraft carrier, USS Gerald R. Ford, and its carrier air wing to the Caribbean as the Trump administration conducts strikes against boats it says are smuggling illegal drugs in the region.
Chief Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said Friday that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered the Navy’s most advanced aircraft carrier, which was deployed in the Mediterranean, to the U.S. Southern Command area of responsibility to help “dismantle Transnational Criminal Organizations (TCOs) and counter narco-terrorism in defense of the Homeland.”
Parnell wrote in a statement that the presence of the USS Gerald R. Ford in the region will

HOUSTON, Texas — A Union Pacific railroad employee reported the discovery of a brush fire near a storage facility along an interstate highway in Houston. Firefighters responded and found the partially burned body of a man hanging by a rope from the overpass, police officials stated.
The grim discovery of a man found hanging and partially burned beneath a Houston freeway Thursday night has drawn chilling parallels to cartel-style executions long documented by Breitbart’s Cartel Chronicles Project in northern Mexico, where bodies are often displayed in public as a message. While Houston police have not confirmed any connection to organized crime, investigators say the circumstances strongly suggest homicide,

There's applying pressure, and then there's PRESSURE.
Donald Trump is an expert on both, and he is dumping tons of the latter on the tinpot tyrant of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro.
The raging authoritarian in charge of the failed narcostate has been a key portrait in the Trump bullseye ever since the administration was sworn in. Even though Maduro was a priority during his first administration, Trump Part Deux has a new focus and determination to not only shut down the drug and human trafficking pouring out of the country, but to do everything in his power to rid the country of Maduro's evil influence entirely.

Tennessee's Attorney General, Jonathan Skrmetti, announced a significant legal win Thursday in a case involving a Biden-era redefinition of the word "sex" to include gender identity.
Tennessee and 14 other states brought suit against the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in May 2024, challenging the Biden administration's "Final Rule" which included an interpretation of the non-discrimination provision in § 1557 of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) to include gender identity (and thus, to mandate the provision of "gender affirming care").

Liberal Matthew Yglesias delivers a tough message to his fellow Democrats: our party is too pure! His theme is that, by rigorously excluding bigots, the Democrats have condemned themselves to minority status.
His lack of self-knowledge is remarkable. It never occurs to Yglesias that the Democratic Party is already teeming with bigotry–hatred of Jews, Christians, free enterprise and conservatives, among others, that is so intense that people are being shot by members of the “pure” party.

The Department of the Interior (DOI) announced Thursday that it is moving to open up oil and gas development across large swaths of resource-rich land in Alaska, with some Native communities celebrating the sharp departure from the Biden-era crackdown.
The DOI announced Thursday that it is reopening the Coastal Plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) for oil and gas leasing and is seeking lease sale location opportunities on the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska (NPR-A), both expansive and energy-abundant tundras in the state. The Trump administration’s moves to unleash Alaska’s rich energy resources stands in stark contrast

President Trump said Thursday he would not deploy federal troops to San Francisco, reversing course on plans to implement anticrime and immigration enforcement in the Bay Area.
Trump in a post on Truth Social said friends of his called him to ask him not to go forward with the surge after arguing the city’s Democratic Mayor Daniel Lurie “was making substantial progress.”
The president said Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff were among “great people” who urged him not to deploy the National Guard to the city.
He added that he spoke to Lurie on Wednesday evening

President Trump has pardoned Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, the billionaire founder of cryptocurrency exchange Binance — concluding a months-long lobbying effort by the crypto mogul to erase his US felony conviction and reopen the door to his company’s return to the American market.
Trump signed the pardon Wednesday, as The Wall Street Journal first reported.
The president “exercised his constitutional authority by issuing a pardon for Mr. Zhao, who was prosecuted by the Biden Administration in their war on cryptocurrency,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told The Post.

Rep. Katherine Clark (D-CT), the number two ranking House Democrat, is admitting that allowing families to suffer under the shutdown is all about leverage.
“Shutdowns are terrible, and of course there will be families that are going to suffer,” she told Fox News Thursday. “We take that responsibility very seriously. But it is one of the few leverage times we have.”
She added: “It is an inflection point in this budget process where we have tried to get the Republicans to meet with us and prioritize the American people.” So there you have it. Even though Republicans have made clear
