The Week In Pictures: What Cease Fire? Edition

Original Article

The big news of the week, of course, was President Trump’s diplomatic/military triumph in obtaining an end to fighting in Gaza and the return of Hamas’s hostages to Israel. It was a moment that anyone would celebrate–anyone but a liberal, that is. The same people who organized demonstrations around the world demanding a cease fire were oddly silent when they got their wish. In other news, peace may be breaking out in Ukraine, too. Once again, the prospect of peace has something to do with Trump’s persuasive powers, and more to do with Tomahawk missiles. Meanwhile, the Democrats have not been idle. They have kept their Schumer Shutdown

Lots of good pictures. But one of my favorites is Obama on the car lot, trying to buy a Legacy. (Of course, any picture of Greta Thunberg is gold.)

I look forward to this for funny memes, but a lot of those weren't funny. They were scary and true. But still some light ones in there! For some reason, the Heath/Heather one tickled my funny bone. And the Joe Biden would still get lost in the corn maze.

I loved the Zoom Call and the map of Florida is so true. Although my family is from the South Alabama-South Georgia-North Florida triangle, and I was born in the Oranges & Cows region, I tell everyone I grew up so far south in Florida, it was North. Seems like everybody I knew was from New York, New Jersey or Ohio. (I think the Ohioans were lost, looking for the wrong Miami.)

As a long time (former) Florida resident who still visits often.....the Florida map is accurate and FUNNY. We mostly lived in the "Southern" or the "Cows and Oranges" parts.

Maine Sen. Candidate Graham Platner Has
a Lot of Explaining to Do (Update: A Resignation)

Yesterday we learned from a story published by CNN's Andrew Kaczynski that Maine's progressive Senate candidate Graham Platner had identified himself as a communist in Reddit messages under his handle P-Hustle. In addition, Platner also said that all cops are bastards and that white people are racist and stupid. In another since-removed post from 2020, Platner responded to a thread titled “White people aren’t as racist or stupid as Trump thinks” by writing, “Living in white rural America, I’m afraid to tell you they actually are.” And these comments weren't very old. Most were from 2020 and 2021, just a few years ago. Platner was asked to respond and assured CNN that

The New Georgia Project was a voter registration and turnout organization founded by Stacey Abrams back in 2013. In theory it was a non-partisan group but in practice it was there to help Democrats win elections by bringing more Black and Latino voters to the polls. But now the group has announced that it will dissolve and will cease to operate this week. Once one of the most influential political groups in the South, the New Georgia Project is shutting down this week, marking a stunning fall for an organization that pushed to advance Democratic causes for more than a decade. The New Georgia Project’s board of directors

Jack Smith may have thought he was untouchable when he led the Biden administration's legal crusade against Donald Trump, but Republican lawmakers are now making it clear that his alleged abuses won't go unanswered. On Friday, Senator Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, joined by a coalition of Republican senators and one congressman, sent a blistering letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi referring the former special counsel to the Department of Justice's Office of Professional Responsibility and two state bar associations for investigation. The charge? Professional misconduct that is serious enough to warrant potential disbarment. “As part of Jack Smith’s weaponized witch hunt, the Biden DOJ issued subpoenas

Heather Mac Donald optimistically declares “The end of the race hustle.” Heather’s article is long, and data-rich. I recommend reading it all. She credits President Trump with being uncowed by the Left’s accusations of racism, and offers hope that race-baiting no longer works: For decades, pointing out that any action, public or private, had a black target or fell disproportionately on black people was sufficient to discredit that action, regardless of whether it was couched in terms of race or had a racist intent. Want to fire an employee? Good luck if that employee is black; such a dismissal would be presumptively racist. Tempted to criticize a government official for

One doesn’t need to be the Oracle of Delphi to foretell the coming of the vile Zohran Mamdani as the next mayor of New York. It’s almost unbelievable. Mamdani’s father is Mahmood Mamdani, the Herbert Lehman Professor of Government and Professor of Anthropology and Middle Eastern, South Asian, and African Studies at — you may have heard — Columbia University. That is all too believable. Yesterday’s Wall Street Journal carried Tunku Varadarajan’s review of Professor Mamdani’s new book, the aptly titled Slow Poison. Varadarajan writes: Mahmood Mamdani has written a startling book. Startling, not because of the writing—which is often repetitive, tediously autobiographical and awash with anticolonial pieties—but because “Slow Poison”

And yet, according to recent polls, 43% of New York Jews are supporting him, including 67% of Jewish voters between the ages of 18 and 44. This is analogous to black voters voting for former KKK Grand Wizard David Duke (who ran for president in 1992). How is it even possible for these Jewish New Yorkers to be supporting

Governor Newsom himself admitted it was unfair. A federal grand jury in Maryland has reportedly indicted former national security adviser John Bolton. Two sources told CNN that Bolton is being indicted for allegedly sharing classified information with his wife and daughter over email. Sources previously told CNN that part of the Justice Department’s investigation centers around notes he was making to himself in an AOL email account — at times writing summaries of his activities like diary entries — when he was working for Trump. FBI agents executed a search warrant on Bolton’s Maryland home and Washington, DC, office this summer. The agents seized multiple documents labeled “secret,” “confidential,” and “classified,” including some about weapons of mass destruction,

Former Rep. When the staffer issued her correction regarding a policy detail, Porter responded, “Okay. You also were in my shot before that. Before I get to the good stuff, I feel that I need to remind you that yesterday, President Donald Trump announced that the United States had blown up yet another narco-boat out of Venezuela. The kinetic strike took place in International Waters, according to the president, and killed six narco-terrorists on board. Intelligence confirmed the boat was carrying illegal narcotics. (Snip) Sens. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and Tim Kaine (D-Va.) probably held some sort of vigil for their fallen cartel brothers. Is Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) going to retire? Townhall has been hearing whispers from some senior Democratic sources that the longtime New York Senator could be retiring from public life for numerous reasons, not least being that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) could make good on her move to primary him. Now, AOC venturing outside the state could be an early move to consolidate her national constituency for a 2028 presidential run, which she could do, but she has options. And this seat is gettable for her: Schumer is not well-liked among Democratic voters, and his fundraising has been abysmal.

After a U.S.-led campaign, the United Nations has postponed a vote on a proposal to impose the world’s first global carbon tax on shipping, delaying the decision by one year. The rule was expected to come up for a vote this week as part of the U.N. International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) "Net-Zero Framework." But a majority of member nations voted to defer it after failing to reach consensus amid U.S. opposition. Backed by the European Union and Brazil, the plan seeks to raise billions from carriers that exceed new emissions limits, channeling the revenue toward climate adaptation and clean-fuel projects in developing nations. Washington and Riyadh led the opposition.

NBC News executive vice president of editorial, Catherine Kim, announced the cuts to staff on the morning of Oct. 15. Kim claimed that the layoffs made things a “difficult day for a lot of us,” the Wrap reported. The Wednesday newsroom massacre comes as NBC News splits from its sister news network, MSNBC. Protesting the direction of the country under President Donald Trump, people will gather Saturday in the nation’s capital and communities across the U.S. for “ No Kings ” demonstrations — what the president’s Republican Party is calling “Hate America” rallies. This is the third mass mobilization since Trump’s return to the White House and it is expected to be the largest. It comes against the backdrop of a government shutdown that not only has closed federal programs and services, but is testing the core balance of power as an aggressive executive confronts Congress and the courts in ways that organizers warn are a slide toward American authoritarianism.

Hamas defended the gruesome public executions it carried out against Palestinians earlier this week as the terrorist group says it has no plans to lay down its arms — throwing a massive wrench into the already tense peace negotiations with Israel. Hamas politburo member Mohammed Nazzal told Reuters that “exceptional measures” had to be taken when it carried out public killings in Gaza on Monday, which drew widespread criticism for their extreme violence. He claimed that those executed were criminals guilty of murder. Nazzal also refused to commit to Hamas disarming itself, which Israel has demanded as part of a peace deal.

A notoriously violent two-block stretch of Brooklyn is fighting crime — by keeping uniformed cops away, The Post has learned. NYPD officials agreed to turn a sliver of Brownsville in the NYPD’s 73rd Precinct into a “police free zone” last week as part of an city-funded experiment called the Brownsville Safety Alliance that initially was only twice a year but now runs four times annually. And it’s an initiative that’s received praise from anti-cop, mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani, an official with the group that runs it told The Post.
