Following 25 years of what oil and gas executives categorize as hostility to the industry, the state is now making a play to keep those companies from leaving. Concerned with the exodus of oil and gas companies, refinery closures and the expensive price of gasoline in the state, California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed legislation last week that fast tracks the approval of 2,000 new wells per year over the next 10 years in Kern County, a significant oil-producing region. All the wells in the world will not do squat with refineries closing and none being built to replace them. California has been desperate for generations to become a third world dictatorship. And it's finally happening.

Honestly, at some point California State government is going to have to be declared incompetent and placed into receivership. Democrat leadership will discover (maybe) you can’t make businesses stay if they can’t rely on a stable environment to function.

The article quotes Newsom, a well known idiot and liar, continuously, and on the subject of oil and gas production in Ca. But we hear little or nothing from those that would produce oil and gas in Ca., only that they intend to exit the state.

Liberal policy after liberal policy completely collapses and rather than admit they were wrong, they just initiate some changes without repudiating their original policies. Liberals are completely without shame. Further, when they put the policies in place, they excoriate, without proof, those who point out that liberal thinking is idiotic, labeling them a threat to humanity, the environment, democracy, ... When liberals fail, they act as if they had no warning as to the mistakes they were making.

The State is looking for all forms of new/increased taxes but Prop 13 from the 70s makes it hard for them to change the laws so increasing production means more taxes to waste on illegals and trains to no-where etc.

Getting out of state oil refiners to make that special blend of gas California users (to fight the smog monster) and then truck it in is going to be a lot more expensive than refining it right in the state. I would not be surprised if gas at the pump prices out that way reach $8 - $10 per gallon after Valero (in '26) and Phillips (at the end of this year) close shop. Of course, there's no discussion of cutting the state's onerous gas tax.

Gavin Newsom has to be delusional to actually believe the legislation will have any real impact on gas and energy prices for the state of CA. Just because they approve an "expedited" process for new oil and gas wells in Kern County (think Bakersfield so out of the way and not something people along the Coast will likely ever see), does not mean the Environmental group won't be working overtime to delay or stop. It does not mean they will produce any actual oil in the next couple of years either. California had 40 refineries in 1983, they currently have 13 which will dwindle to 11 be the end of the year due to the onerous policies of today's Democrat party and their special interest allies. Don't forget they only worry about how they can fund their excessive government employment, generous salaries, benefits and pensions which are now running at over $100,000 per year for pensions (and many complained they didn't get social security as their rationale for having the very generous pensions which essentially bought votes).
