Senate Democrats have voted down a Republican bill to keep funding the government, putting it on a near certain path to a shutdown after midnight Wednesday for the first time in almost seven years.
After the vote, the White House’s Office of Management and Budget issued a memo saying that “affected agencies should now execute their plans for an orderly shutdown.”
The Senate rejected the legislation as Democrats are making good on their threat to close the government if President Donald Trump and Republicans won’t accede to their health care demands.

"Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling has consistently been a staunch critic of the push to allow men who identify as women to invade women's safe spaces, like locker rooms, bathrooms, women's sports, etc., even in the face of doxxing, cancel culture attempts, and violence/death threats against her and her family. She's been unafraid to take on her detractors, no matter their positions in life, whether they be government officials, the literary community, Hollywood elitists, or far-left wacktivists.
But throughout it all, even as many of the main actors who played in the Harry Potter movies turned against her in a show of support for the transgender movement,

Senate Democrats have blocked a Republican bill that would have extended federal funding for seven weeks, with the final tally coming in at 55-45, short of the 60 votes needed to break the filibuster. This puts the government on a fast track toward its first shutdown in nearly seven years, all because Democrats decided now was the time to dig in their heels.
The Republican bill was straightforward, a clean funding extension that should have sailed through without drama. But Democrats refused to play ball unless Republicans agreed to negotiate on extending Obamacare subsidies and other Democratic priorities.

Democrats are willing to shut down the government if Republicans refuse to re-negotiate part of the tax bill passed in July. They say the main thing they want re-negotiated are government subsidies for Obamacare.
The Democrats have some leverage here because, while it took only a Senate majority to pass the tax bill, and the Republicans hold that majority, it takes a supra-majority to pass a bill to keep the government from shutting down. A supra-majority cannot be achieved without a handful of Democrats.
There are several principled objections to this strategy by the Democrats, which are worth mentioning before I get to the main point.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced a multipronged effort aimed at lowering drug costs in the United States, including the creation of a “TrumpRx” direct-to-consumer website where Americans can buy medicine at discounted prices and a sweeping deal with Pfizer to reduce the prices of many of its products. “The United States is done subsidizing the health care of the rest of the world,” Trump said at a news conference. “By taking this bold step, we’re ending the era of global price gouging at the expense of American families.” Pfizer is the first drugmaker to voluntarily agree to all the demands Trump laid out to pharmaceutical company CEOs.

As the Gateway Pundit reported over the weekend, a young man named Nigel Max Edge was arrested and charged with three counts of first degree murder after opening fire on the American Fish Company restaurant dock in the North Carolina coastal town of Southport.
Edge is a Marine veteran who served in Iraq. Unfortunately, he was battling some personal demons.
One of his former friends is now speaking out and saying that he tried to get help for the man and that his warnings to authorities went unheeded.
It’s a tragic reminder that we have a serious mental health crisis in the country right now.

President Trump said Tuesday that Harvard University has reached a tentative deal with his administration to restore $2.4 billion in frozen federal grants.
America’s oldest college will spend about $500 million to launch and operate trade schools, ending a clash over issues including discrimination against Jewish students and the use of race-based affirmative action, Trump said.
“This would be a giant trade school, or series of trade schools. It would be run by Harvard,” the president told reporters in the Oval Office.

The release of NJ gubernatorial candidate Mikie Sherrill’s full military file is being investigated by the National Archives’ watchdog after she complained it was leaked as part of a political hit-job.
Will Brown, acting inspector general for the National Archives, announced a formal inquiry into how the files for the New Jersey Democratic rep got into the hands of a key ally to her Republican opponent, Jack Ciattarelli.
Sherrill’s record was released after it was revealed the governor hopeful was forbidden from walking in commencement.

“The illegal release of my military records — including my Social Security number — was no mistake,” Sherrill said on X earlier in the day Tuesday.

When Americans consider “charity” they picture their contributions providing clothing for the poor or food for the hungry. When they hear the word “missionary" they picture Christians going abroad to save souls. However, these terms mean very different things to the Muslim Brotherhood, an organization that President Trump has twice attempted to label as terrorist. In radical Islamist teaching, zakat (charity) is not simply about helping the poor; it is about advancing Islam. The aim is to expand the ummah -- the worldwide Muslim community -- through dawah (proselytizing).
Americans are right to be deeply concerned about what is happening in our own country.

America’s national debt is a ticking time bomb, exploding right under our noses. As of September 2025, the gross national debt has ballooned past $37 trillion, a staggering figure that’s not just numbers on a ledger but a crushing burden on every hardworking American. Interest payments alone are gobbling up 17% of federal spending, sucking the life out of our economy like a vampire at a blood bank.
But here’s the good news: President Donald J. Trump, in his triumphant return to the White House, is unleashing a crypto revolution that’s poised to slay this debt dragon. These bold policies aren’t some pie-in-the-sky gamble—

When Roberts was arrested, agents found $3,000 in cash in his government-issued vehicle along with a fixed-blade hunting knife and a loaded handgun.
The New York Times reported that Roberts, as Des Moines Public Schools superintendent since July 2023, had been earning a base salary of about $286,000 after he filed employment eligibility forms claiming to be an American citizen, providing a Social Security Number and a driver’s license.

“Good morning, and welcome to the War Department because the era of the Department of Defense is over,” Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth told hundreds of generals and admirals gathered Tuesday at Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia. The secretary told the top military brass, summoned on short notice last week, that 10 directives would arrive in the inboxes of commands Tuesday. Some of the initiatives include adding combat field tests for combat arms units, emphasizing “male-level” standards for fitness, and seeing that every member of the joint force — including four-star generals — take a fitness test twice a year and meet height and weight requirements.

As we watch the drama with James Comey developing, I can’t help but draw from a historical perspective.
I see Comey as comparable to Mark Felt. I can recall when the leftist press was making Felt (AKA Deep Throat) out to be some kind of hero. What did Mark Felt do? He leaked info that eventually brought down Richard Nixon’s presidency. I commented on the whole Watergate deal and the praise that Felt was getting back in June of 2005: "Imagine with me the howling, had this (leaking) occurred with a Democrat, instead of Nixon."

The flying of the Chinese flag over Philadelphia City Hall to promote cultural ties has been criticized as supporting the authoritarian government in Beijing.
The flag’s raising by the city’s Office of Immigrant Affairs is to mark the anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and promote cultural exchange between Philadelphia and its Chinese sister city, Tianjin, according to reports.
But it has prompted an angry appeal by a U.S. lawmaker to Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker to scrap the plan.

War Secretary Pete Hegseth announced Tuesday a slew of new personnel fitness and grooming directives going after “fat general” and “beardos” in the military.
The new directives will require all military members to pass two fitness tests a year, regardless of rank, and to meet the highest combat standards previously reserved only for men, Hegseth said during his speech at Quantico to senior military leaders. He also announced he would strictly enforce grooming standards for all military members, with exceptions for special operations forces.
Hegseth made elevating standards a top priority of his tenure after years of declining standards often intended to lower barriers to entry and attract more recruits.

President Trump used an AI-generated video to mock Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) on Monday, hours after he met with the Democratic congressional leaders at the White House to discuss the looming government shutdown.
The faux footage, posted by Trump on Truth Social, shows Jeffries – depicted with a mustache and sombrero – standing silently next to Schumer, who, in a fake voice, argues in favor of giving “illegal aliens free healthcare” as part of an effort to court “new voters” for the Democratic Party.
A traditional Mexican folk song plays over the 35-second video, for which the White House appears to serve as the backdrop.

At an address of assembled generals and admirals, Pete Hegseth, the US defense secretary, outlined changes to military policy and philosophy in a set of 10 directives meant to change organizational culture around fitness, race and gender, describing the previous state of military affairs as the “woke department.”

President Donald Trump’s 20-point peace plan to end the Gaza war, deliver the hostages, remove Hamas from power, ensure security for Israel and rebuild Gaza is ambitious and welcome, offering a real hope for regional peace and prosperity — if Hamas will take it, and maybe even if the terrorists won’t.
The plan, conceived in concert with a range of regional powers, is equal parts idealistic and practical.
And perhaps its most idealistic piece, the proposed “Board of Peace” — a multinational and interagency overseer to shepherd Gaza’s postwar progress — is the only realistic route out of this ghastly vortex.

Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan has signed an order to increase the voluntary return grant for alleged asylum seekers, increasing the payout to €2,500 ($2,900) for individuals or €10,000 ($11,700) for families who willingly drop their asylum claims and leave the country, The Irish Times reports.
This is nearly double the previous payouts, which stood at €1,500 ($1,800) per person or €6,000 ($7,000) per family, prior to the order from Minister O’Callaghan.

Would a guy whose brain is being held hostage by the Tricknology and Jedi Mind Tricks of Benjamin Netanyahu write a letter expressing his deep love for Israel and suggesting better ways for the Israeli prime minister to "message" his country to Gen Z? Just a few months before he was murdered by an assassin's bullet, Charlie Kirk wrote an effusive letter to Prime Minister Netanyahu about his love for Israel. Netanyahu mentioned the letter in the days following Kirk's murder and on Monday he released it.

The Trump administration just pulled off something most Americans probably didn’t think was possible: shrinking the federal bureaucracy in a massive and meaningful way. On Tuesday, more than 100,000 federal workers are expected to walk out the door through a deferred resignation program, marking the largest single-year reduction in the civilian federal workforce since World War II. Factor in layoffs, buyouts, early retirements, and natural attrition, and the government could shed roughly 275,000 employees by the end of 2025.

Over the weekend, the Wall Street Journal offered a deeply reported analysis of the young socialists who are fueling the Democratic Party’s lurch to the left in the past years, tracing it back to economic anxieties of the Great Recession. There’s an eye-opening description of a meeting of communists in Philadelphia:
On a recent evening, 15 comrades from the Northwest Philadelphia cell of the Revolutionary Communists of America gathered for their weekly meeting in a classroom at Thomas Jefferson University.
