Historically, no one really wins a government shutdown. But JD Vance might. In the 24 hours after Senate Democrats voted against a continuing resolution to keep the federal lights on, the vice president quickly became the face of the White House counterargument.
Vance began the day on Fox and Friends to blast Democrats for taking the government “hostage.” By midmorning, he was rallying the MAGA base during an appearance on The Ben Shapiro Show, where he predicted that Democratic resolve was “cracking.” In the afternoon, the vice president made a surprise appearance in the White House briefing room.

Vice President JD Vance smacked down Democrat lawmakers’ "preposterous" claim that Democrats are not trying to provide taxpayer-funded health care benefits to illegal immigrants in an interview with "FOX & Friends" on Wednesday. Vance said Democrats want to reinstate Biden-era federal funding for emergency healthcare for illegal immigrants that was ended under the Trump administration.
"They say, ‘We're not actually trying to give health care benefits to illegal aliens,’" Vance said of the Democrats. "And here's why it's not true."
Vance called out two Biden-era programs "that explicitly gave the taxpayer health care money to illegal aliens that we turned off when President Trump took over in January."

They say the only things in life that are certain are death and taxes, but I think I could add a third axiom to that list: President Donald Trump will vow to fix a problem, Democrats will claim it isn't a problem, or that he's an authoritarian overreacting. Trump will fix it anyway; they'll admit he was half-right, and the cycle will start over. In my home state of California, for instance, only 30% of public school fourth graders can read proficiently. Fully 41% cannot even read at a basic level — which is to say, they cannot really understand and interpret written text at all. Eighth graders, as you might expect, look almost as bad.

Who is the census for? Or more importantly, who does Congress represent? If you answered "U.S. citizens," you're correct – or at least you should be.
At the start of each decade, the federal government tallies who's living in the country and where, citizens and non-citizens alike. That census data determines how many seats in the House of Representatives each state receives, as well as its share of Electoral College votes for president. This whole process is mandated by Article I, Section 2 of the Constitution, the part most focused on proper representation.
But representation for whom? Since 1790, anyone and everyone living within America's borders, "excluding Indians not taxed."

The national Black Lives Matter movement claims $33.4 million of its cash is being withheld by one of its progressive partner organizations, The Post has learned.

Once again, we are being treated to a fusillade of stories about the horrors of a government shutdown. But we invite readers to consider this: Roughly two-thirds of government spending will continue despite the “shutdown.”
In other words, there is absolutely no reason for Republicans to cave on Democratic demands that Medicaid benefits for illegals and Obamacare subsidies for higher-income families be restored.
The longer the federal government remains shut down, the more people will realize how meaningless it is, and the less leverage Democrats will have.
