The Chicago Bears are moving out of Chicago. In an open letter to season ticket holders from Bears CEO Kevin Warren has dropped the bombshell that the team is set to move out of Chicago. The letter was posted on the official website for the Bears and reads: "Dear Chicago Bears Fans: Tonight marks the 106th season of Chicago Bears football. Our team has played almost 1,500 regular season games since our first game as the Decatur Staleys in 1920, 180 miles to the south in Decatur, Illinois. Since our inception, we have played under different names, with different uniforms

From his letter: This project does not represent us leaving [Chicago], it represents us expanding.
C'mon, Kevin, just say it.
Weenie.

Subliminal message: Gotta get away from the city of Chicago.
If they stayed in Chicago, would they change their name to Chicago Illegals?

"Da Arlington Heights Bears!" doesn't quite have that same feel...but at least you'll return home after the game without getting carjacked. Or worse.

It's all about getting out of Sh%$cago. Smart move by the Bears' management team and owner. As for the Cubbies, the Blackhawks, Bulls, and the White Sox, we'll see.

Just wondering. Is 25 miles, or so, really far enough away to keep the things they are leaving behind from following them there - later, if not sooner?

Mayor Johnson declared the move a racist hate crime. He is filing a lawsuit seeking to have it permanently enjoined and to confiscate all profits earned by the team since 1947 as reparations for the black players who were underpaid compared to their white teammates.

Well, at least they stayed in Cook County. Didn't move to the racist DuPage.

Moving from the Lake Michigan shore to the suburb of Arlington Heights a few dozen miles away is hardly 'moving out of Chicago'. But it is lightyears away from the risk of being robbed, mugged - or worse.

Same reasons Raiders, Warriors, and A's quit Oakland; and 49ers quit San Francisco.

Arlington Heights has consistently been recognized for its low crime rates, often ranking among the safest places to live in Illinois. Go figure…

He could have made that letter much shorter. "We are getting the H out of that area before more of our fans get robbed or murdered".

Now, the City can have a nice big place to put all the homeless.
After all, believe the shell of the old stadium is considered a historical landmark so can't be demolished but just look at all that nice space they can use to have encampments. They're a welcoming City after all, right?

They may as well say they are moving to the suburbs. 25 miles is nothing compared to how far some fans go to see their "home" team.

BACK IN THE 70's my college buddies (6 or 8 of us) and I would go to cities to see MLB teams.....Atlanta, Cleveland, Boston, Baltimore, DC. We were flying out of Raleigh, NC. Chicago was a great one to see the Dodgers at the cubs for double header on sat and game on Sunday before flying back. We flew in to O'hare, got an L train towards a motel in south Chicago. two baggage handlers on the train had just got off work at American Airlines asked what we in town for and where staying. ( we were loaded) one was black, one Hispanic. Igor told them and they just looked at the other one and said' i wouldnt go there this time of night'. we got off at next stop and headed back to airport to find another place. those two guys might have saved us some medical or legal mess. i definitely thank them. Chicago sucked a lot more than the other cities did. But the games were great and we got loaded and laid. its fun being a dumb young single man.

I’m sure moving the team, stadium and all, to a safe suburb won’t change the dynamics of the area in the least. I can see traffic in Arlington Heights becoming congested, with all the game goers running in and out, punks out and about preying on unsuspecting citizens thinking ‘glad we’re not in Chicago anymore’. I hope their law enforcement has mor integrity.

Over the last decade, the Bears have had a dismal record and fan base decline. The Bears just want to make sure that the fans who do come are able to make it to and from the games alive or unharmed by the thugs. Also, their field is outdoors on Lake Michigan and it gets very cold!

Most of the Bears players are black but that didn't stop Brandon Johnson from saying something stupid. The ticket, parking and concession loss to the city of Chicago will be astronomical.

Perhaps they can now use Soldier Field for fight to the death cage matches between rival gangs and sell tickets.

Wow! Will a new Stadium help the Win a Game for a change? I lived 60 miles West of Chicago until I got out of IL in 1995. Went to lots of Bulls and Bears games. Back then you could pull into someone's front yard and park, for 15 or 20 Bucks and the car was actually still there at the end of the Game! I wouldn't ever think of doing that now (if I still lived there)! Also, going to a Bears Game meant freezing your Rear off! It was the coldest place on Earth with the wind off of the Lake! Still, Both places meant a fun time, so we did it! We were young and foolish back then!!

Once you're in the Bears parking lot or at the nearby museum and aquarium, etc. you are reasonably safe, it is the getting there or roaming to nearby areas that can be risky. Like someone above said, Chicago will lose lots of money but Cook county will still harvest it in Arlington Heights.

That big green area in the middle of Sister Soljah Field will be a perfect spot for a huge tent city for arrested illegals.

FTA: Moving outside of the city of Chicago is not a decision we reached easily. This project does not represent us leaving, it represents us expanding. The Bears draw fans from all over Illinois, and over 50 percent of our season-ticket holders live within 25 miles of the Arlington Heights site. The project provides us the opportunity to build a stadium and mixed-use development that will benefit our fans, our region, and our future together. Most importantly, the new stadium will elevate the fan experience with easy access, whether by Metra train directly to the site or a short drive with ample parking and tailgating, creating a vital connection between Chicago and the broader Cook County community, ensuring every fan feels at home.
Very reminiscent of the Braves moving out of Atlanta and into Cobb County. The majority of the season ticket holders do not live in Atlanta and it became too cumbersome and dangerous to go to the games...just wasn't worth it. The Braves are totally thriving in Cobb and honestly, they are more of real estate company that a pro-sports team now. People go to the Battery year round for shopping, dining, concerts at The Roxy, and other events.
