Former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told House investigators she did not see a change in former President Joe Biden’s competency over several years, but she acknowledged he was "not the same speaker he was when she met him." Jean-Pierre was the latest in a string of former Biden White House officials to be interviewed by House Oversight Committee investigators over an alleged cover-up of the ex-president’s mental acuity. She did not speak to reporters on her way into the interview just off Capitol Hill, nor did she speak after the nearly five-hour, closed-door transcribed interview. But a source

The North Korean government is increasingly implementing the death penalty, including for people caught watching and sharing foreign films and TV dramas, a major UN report has found. The dictatorship, which remains largely cut off from the world, is also subjecting its people to more forced labour while further restricting their freedoms, the report added. The UN Human Rights Office found that over the past decade the North Korean state had tightened control over "all aspects of citizens' lives". "No other population is under such restrictions in today's world," it concluded, adding that surveillance had become "more pervasive", helped in

The Carolina Panthers on Thursday fired an employee who made insensitive social media posts following the assassination of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk. Charlie Rock, a member of the team’s communications department, was the staffer fired, a source briefed on the Panthers’ decision confirmed to Fox News Digital. Social media posts linked to Rock appeared to show him questioning why people were sad that Kirk had been shot and killed. The song "Protect Ya Neck" from the Wu-Tang Clan was also shared. "The views expressed by our employees are their own and do not represent those of the Carolina Panthers," the

WASHINGTON – Read the opinions for yourself. That’s the message Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor had Sept. 10 for viewers of the “Late Show with Stephen Colbert” the day after her blistering response to her conservative colleagues’ latest ruling siding with the Trump administration. The majority said the administration can for now resume the indiscriminate immigration-related stops in southern California that sparked protests and charges of racial profiling. In her dissent for the court’s three liberals, Sotomayor said the majority’s decision “is yet another grave misuse of our emergency docket.” “We should not have to live in a country where

“In retrospect,” Kamala Harris writes of letting Joe and Jill Biden decide on their own whether the then-president should have tried to run for re-election, “I think it was recklessness.” (Snip) “‘It’s Joe and Jill’s decision.’ We all said that, like a mantra, as if we’d all been hypnotized,” Harris writes in the first excerpt of “107 Days” published Wednesday morning by The Atlantic. “The stakes were simply too high. This wasn’t a choice that should have been left to an individual’s ego, an individual’s ambition. It should have been more than a personal decision.” Part of the problem, Harris

We hear a lot of vague accusations these days of misdeeds in presidential elections. Voter fraud this, voter fraud that. But we don’t actually see many accusations result in specific allegations against an individual person, let alone specific allegations that result in a criminal indictment. That’s why a new case caught my eye. (Snip) Prosecutors allege that in October 2024, Pack showed up at an early voting location in New Jersey and cast a vote in the presidential election on a voting machine there. And then when Election Day came last November, she allegedly showed up at Christy Recreation Center

Where are all the hurricanes? So far, we've only had one in the Atlantic (Erin), a far cry from the predictions of as many as 10. This week specifically is also usually quite active: Based on past years, Sept. 10 is the typical peak of the Atlantic hurricane season. But this year, a quiet week is expected instead, as no tropical cyclone formation is expected during the next seven days, according to the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center released Sept. 8. "Models show no areas of possible development this week, headed into the traditional hurricane season peak this

As Vice President JD Vance paid his respects to the victims of last week’s deadly mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis, protesters standing by a "progress pride" flag with transgender colors heckled him from across the street. Vance, who is Catholic, paid a visit to the site of the shooting and visited with victims and their families on Wednesday. The vice president and second lady Usha Vance were seen pausing for a moment in front of a statue of the Virgin Mary outside the church before he entered. As he entered, protesters could be heard shouting various slogans

Reports surfaced this week suggesting that Chelsea Clinton may be considering a run for Congress in New York's 12th District, where longtime Democratic Representative Jerry Nadler has announced his retirement. The reports about Clinton, the daughter of former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, come as Democratic strategists weigh who could consolidate support in a rapidly expanding field. However, she has repeatedly insisted over the years that she has no plans to enter politics. Newsweek reached out to Chelsea Clinton via email for comment. Nadler's retirement marks the end of a three-decade career in Congress, including

Four candidates and two reserves from the right-wing AfD political party in Germany have dropped dead within 13 days of each other — just before elections, according to reports. The Alternative for Deutschland candidates were set to appear on ballots in North Rhine-Westphalia on September 14. Officials said no foul play is currently suspected in any of their deaths, the BBC reported. Ralph Lange, 66, Wolfgang Klinger, 71, Stefan Berendes, 59, and Wolfgang Seitz, 59, all kicked the bucket within two weeks of each other, the European Conservative reported. Two reserve candidates also died over the same period. German officials stated

Gov. Gavin Newsom has commuted the sentence of a Northern California man who committed a shocking murder-for-hire when he was 18 years old, the governor’s office announced Friday. Arthur Battle, now 37, will soon be eligible for parole after spending his entire adult life behind bars. The unusual case made headlines in 2006 when a trip to a Hollywood Video near the Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento turned deadly. As 19-year-old Vardan Abramyan headed inside to rent a movie, his father, Norik Abramyan, 45, waited in their Kia. Gunshots rang out in the parking lot as multiple shooters fired
