Whoever floated the ‘trans gun ban’

Was floating a ban on trans people owning guns just some basement-level idiot’s idea for “owning the libs”? In the wake of Robin Westman’s deadly Minneapolis rampage, some troll in the bowels of the Trump Justice Department reportedly proposed blocking trans people from buying firearms by declaring them all “mentally ill.” This, of course, is absurd as a simple matter of law: No rule that strips a (dubiously-defined) group of their Second Amendment rights has any chance of holding up in court. And if it did somehow survive, that’s an open invitation for future progs to create their own “mentally ill by definition” categories — deployable to limit lots of other rights.

Comments:

First thing I thought, too. Attack the illness, confine the dangerous, but don't even get on the road to gun bans by group.

Correct. Banning guns for any other group would be the proverbial camel’s nose under the tent!

Equal Justice under the law forbids such an idea. But I am sure some liberal stayed awake last night after their seizure for hearing such a notion.

Westman's "mental illness" was exacerbated by years of hormone therapy - female hormone estrogen along with anti-androgens to squelch male hormones in his body. The side effects can be substantial so this "therapy" requires constant monitoring by an MD and is lifelong. Westman (who'd had no surgery) knew he had damaged himself with this program. What's the answer? Should persons on this damaging regimen have guns?

Okay… All you previous posters ( and the NY Post) need to go to Lighten Up School. This was Trump’s “troll of the day” to the progs. If you go along with it, it will force the libtards to defend the Second Amendment - which would be fun to watch. You’ll notice that they were all running around with their dresses over their heads yesterday, and now nobody is saying anything about it.

Insane idea -- but it possibly could be considered for banning Democrats from owning weapons for mental illness. I am not sure that would work either, as Democrats always incite others to do their dirty work.

I agree with #5. This (constitutionally illegal) "float" was 100% troll, the purpose of which is make the opposition lose whatever remained of their minds to lose. By early 2029, after four years of Trump, the Left will be reduced to twiddling their thumbs, handling rattlesnakes in church, and drinking what Joel Chandler Harris called "turkentime." When your enemy is about to pop in frustration, don't calm him. Sass him, and put your fingers in your ears. It's not a matter of having given him "too much." It's a matter of having given him "enough." In 1968, John Cleese, soon to be of Monty Python fame, instructed us in his television special "How to Irritate People." A classic.

I am 100% certain that this is a massive troll by President Trump to get liberals to suddenly have to defend the 2nd amendment!!!!! President Trump is the biggest supporter of 2nd amendment rights of all presidents, and will not take guns away from any law-abiding citizens. But he will enjoy watching liberals squirm every chance he gets!!!!!

Perhaps it was just trolling the left as some here have suggested. Unfortunately, I can also see it being an effort to advance gun control in a way which might get some who are otherwise opposed to gun control on board for. Follow this logic: since removing everyone's right to own guns is the ultimate goal there is no harm in preventing an otherwise favored group from owning them first if that would allow the gun controllers to move their agenda forward. Some of you are forgetting that, for the most part, leftists don't actually CARE about "trans rights" (or any other part of the LGBTQXAB... group). All they care about is using them to break down western civilization.

IMHO floating the idea is great; however, adopting the idea would set a terrible precedent. Someday liberal dems will be back in control. Like hurricanes and earthquakes, it is not a matter of if, just a matter of when. When they do and try to enact gun ownership bans, we can point to the fact that they oppose banning guns by the demographic that is way disproportionately likely to use guns in a mass shooting.

The Joe Biden autopen fiasco isn’t over, and it never went away. It just went dormant for a bit, but we knew something was going to drop, and it has. President Joe Biden signed a trove of clemency petitions before he shuffled out of the White House. There are concerns that he wasn’t cogent or even aware of what he was signing. That issue presented itself with executive orders, as told by Speaker Mike Johnson. The mountain of clemency petitions was navigated by a shoddy chain of command among top Biden staffers, and again, it presented issues about whether Joe Biden was aware of what was going on

The next step is asking the right questions. The story in Politico Nightly about a reporter’s odyssey in obtaining a Real ID from his native Illinois raises the question of whether local Democrats are discouraging their residents from getting this new form of identification because they don’t want to make things harder for the state's illegal alien population.

Jean Carroll wrote an account in New York magazine alleging that Donald Trump sexually assaulted her in a Bergdorf Goodman department store dressing room in 1995. Or maybe it was 1996. She can’t exactly remember.
