Congress has not scheduled a vote to extend President Trump’s 30-day federalization of the Metropolitan Police Department as the expiration date looms. Trump’s control over DC police is set to expire next week on September 10 if Congress doesn’t act. President Trump, on August 11 signed an executive order declaring a “crime emergency” and invoking powers under section 740 of the DC Home Rule Act to federalize the police. The Home Rule Act requires Congressional approval for the President to federalize the police for more than 30 days.

Supporting this Trump bill in a bipartisan manner would give Democrats a way to show they are against more crime. Now they are pro-crime. They can then concentrate on the two good issues for Soccer Moms: vaccines and abortion.

The DC teens are now sitting quietly in their lairs, just waiting for the deadline to expire.

Congress has given the impression that they are not planning to do anything. Probably exhausted from the 5 week vacation.

When Congress fails to act and crime in DC shoots back up, who is going to look bad - Trump or Congress?

Who was it said: "For evil to prevail, all that needs to happen is for good men to do nothing"?
I have a hard time describing most DemoRoids and RINOS as good, though.

When Trump's order expires and the National Guard leave watch what happens. Crime in DC shoots through the roof because the criminals need to make up for lost time. Democrats and the media will then blame Trump and Republicans for creating chaos and violence. Democrats will suddenly call for more police for DC as if they had the idea for more police presence. They will accuse Trump of neglecting DC crime because it is populated with minorities.

All Congress ever does is grandstand for the cameras, fund raise, pass pork bills, and talk.

Doesn't much matter what the congress does...it's all been decided already....it's all been in the mix for weeks....it's all a political show for the cameras and social media hangers on...Personally speaking....I think President Trump is one step ahead of them and has negotiated a deal for some other beneficial action by congress.....

Why is this extension even being discussed a week out from expiring? Congress never had any problem with continuing resolutions over and over again.
Last I heard, republicans had the house and senate. Oh well. They're not called the Stupid Party for nothing - always snatching defeat from the laws of victory.

Letting it expire is the best thing that can happen to Trump. If crime does not come back he can say he defeated it, If it does come back he can say look what happened when you stopped me.

Force the Democrats to beg for the vote which is supported by the DC mayor.
Wait until the crime returns to DC after the Dems don't want to give Trump another "win" instead of just doing the right thing.
The people will start to see they aren't being well represented by today's Democrats and may welcome another option.

Re #8, DC Mayor Bowser has already announced that the National Guard's deployment will continue until the end of the year. She knows that many of her constituents are not willing to return to the old "DC normal."

Both parties folks. What are they waiting for? Oh, they are running out the clock. Action through inaction.
How many murders on the first night? Media won't report them so they never happened.

The Uniparty want's to maintain the grip it has on DC and getting rid of crime doesn't help that effort.

FTA: "However, earlier this week, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser signed an executive order for local law enforcement to work with federal officials indefinitely."
Perhaps Trump hasn't gotten around to asking the Republican Speaker to tee up the extension for a vote, as Bowser's order may be the outcome the president desired. GWP tends to push driving a wedge between the Republican president and the small Republican majority in Congress. Bowser has at least appeared somewhat reasonable vis-a-vis Trump's actions in DC, not downplaying the results, especially as compared to the insurrectionist wing of the democrat party in CA, NY, and IL.

So..... IF the Mayor were to let things 'go back to normal' after the 30-day emergency term expires, how long before President Trump can declare a New 'Emergency Situation'?
