Seattle is on track to elect one of the farthest left candidates in its history as the city suffers severe homelessness, violent crime waves and budget crises. Katie Wilson, 43, a former union leader who has pledged to 'Trump-proof' the Democrat-led city in Washington state, holds a narrow lead in her primary showdown with incumbent mayor Bruce Harrell. (Snip) She has also vowed to establish an 'Asylum Seeker Rapid Rehousing voucher program' that would provide migrants with two years of free housing subsidies, and instate a number of climate change policies. Wilson previously called to defund the Seattle Police Department

It’s the heart of summer, and the days are long and toasty. Beaches on the coasts (or Lake Michigan, closer to where I live) are packed and clothing is minimal. Some people look good showing extra skin. Most of them don’t. (Snip) If you’re fit and enjoy working out (or even sport a tan), chances are there’s a progressive who will eye you with suspicion of being MAGA. It's an extreme example of the “if-Trump-is-for-it, we-must-be-adamantly-against-it” mentality that has infected the left. To borrow a phrase from former Democratic vice presidential contender Tim Walz, it’s weird. Trump brought physical fitness

The future of Howard Stern's long-running SiriusXM radio show is in jeopardy as the end of his $500million five-year contract looms.
Shock jock Stern, 71, has hosted the second incarnation of The Howard Stern Show since 2006, but a show insider confirmed to the Daily Mail that the host is in 'very serious negotiations' with SiriusXM on whether he will renew his contract. Stern's shift from having the most fearsome reputation in American entertainment to being what Kanye West described as an 'irrelevant old man' has been dramatic in recent years and he has faced backlash after admitting he was

It’s a steel. Progressive Sen. Elizabeth Warren heaped praise Monday on socialist mayoral contender Zohran Mamdani’s “steely” focus on affordability — casting it as a winning path out of the political wilderness for Democrats. Warren, who appeared alongside Mamdani at the DC37 union building to support his universal childcare proposal, said he kick-started that conversation in the right place – and has Wall Street fat cats and billionaires running scared. “For me, New York City is the place to start the conversation for Democrats on how affordability is the central issue, the central reason to be a Democrat, and that

CANBERRA - Several towns in eastern Australia were blanketed with their thickest layer of snow in decades as wild weather swept the area this weekend, causing floods, stranding vehicles and cutting power to thousands of homes, authorities said. A cold air front dropped as much as 40 cm (16 inches) of snow on parts of northern New South Wales on Saturday, the most since the mid-1980s, said Miriam Bradbury, a meteorologist at Australia's weather bureau. Snow also settled in areas of the neighbouring state of Queensland for the first time in 10 years, she said. Bradbury said climate change has made

Loni Anderson, who starred as the shrewd radio station receptionist Jennifer Marlowe on WKRP in Cincinnati before her fairy-tale marriage to and acrimonious divorce from Burt Reynolds kept her uncomfortably in the tabloids, died Sunday. She was 79. A two-time Emmy nominee, Anderson died in Los Angeles following “an acute prolonged illness,” publicist Cheryl J. Kagan announced. The Minnesota native also portrayed doomed Hollywood sex sirens in two telefilms: 1980’s The Jayne Mansfield Story — alongside an untested Arnold Schwarzenegger as her second husband, Mickey Hargitay — and 1991’s White Hot: The Mysterious Murder of Thelma Todd. And from 1988-90

The Senate voted on Saturday to confirm former Fox News host and prosecutor Jeanine Pirro as U.S. Attorney for Washington DC.
The vote was along party lines, 50-45, with Senators Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., Roger Wicker, R-Miss., Peter Welch, D-Vt., and Reuben Gallego D-Ariz., not voting. Pirro had been serving as interim U.S. attorney for DC since May, after Trump appointed her to replace conservative activist Ed Martin as the top federal prosecutor in Washington. In a Truth Social post announcing Pirro’s appointment, Trump lauded the former prosecutor as a “powerful crusader for victims of crime" and "incredibly well qualified for

Pete Buttigieg has been quietly making the rounds on an early 2028 tour after having announced that he would sit out races for governor and senator in 2026. In October, Buttigieg will speak at the Michigan Democratic Party’s “Best of the West” event, a prime swing-state spot for a presidential hopeful. (Snip) An Emerson College poll in late June showed Buttigieg continues to face problems with Black voters. In a stunning result, zero percent of Black respondents supported him when asked whom they’d back for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination in 2028. “You can’t get nominated as a Democrat without

CHICAGO — Former President Joe Biden expressed alarm Thursday about attacks on the rule of law and threats to civil rights under President Donald Trump in some of his most pointed criticism about the new administration since leaving office. Biden, speaking to the National Bar Association in Chicago, did not mention Trump by name but his intended target was clear during remarks that only ran about 20 minutes. “You can’t sugarcoat it. These are dark days,” Biden told the crowd of nearly 1,100 members of the predominantly Black legal organization. The remarks echoed, at least in tone, some of his

A Minnesota man convicted of killing his parents and younger siblings with an ax when he was a teen in 1988 has been released early under a law that Gov. Tim Walz backed. David Brom, now 53, had been assigned to work release as of July 29, according to online records from the Minnesota Department of Corrections. Brom was 16 years old when he killed his mother Paulette, his father Bernard, his younger sister Diane and younger brother Richard at their home in Rochester, Minnesota. Investigators found all four victims suffered multiple gash wounds to their heads and upper bodies

The runner-up in the 2024 U.S. presidential election won’t be running for California‘s top job next year, but Kamala Harris isn’t ruling out a 2028 White House bid yet. After months of speculation and impressive polling, the former Vice President has made it official: She’s not going to be on the ballot to lead the Golden State. “After deep reflection, I’ve decided that I will not run for Governor in this election,” Harris said Wednesday. Earlier this year, around the time of the Oscars, Harris told friends and deep-pocketed donors that she would make a final decision on running for

Democratic nominee for mayor Zohran Mamdani addressed the mass shooting at a Park Avenue office building while at his family’s private compound in Uganda, where he is celebrating his wedding. “I’m heartbroken to learn of the horrific shooting in midtown and I am holding the victims, their families, and the NYPD officer in critical condition in my thoughts,” Mamdani wrote in a post to X.
